Okay, so I'm seeing 2 options here.
1) Grey is maybe not that knowledgeable, he thought ally victory was a thing, he got scammed.
OR.
2) He had his own goals. I mean, most peopl assume "fun = win". This IS a war game, right? But... Well, what if you have fun building and growing? Then your self-imposed victory goal is to survive till the end. And he did. He managed not to aggro any other player.
Also, fame. Given how much he was talked about despite not doing anything that would be considered to be moving the game forward, I'd say it's worth it.

grey was using all of his monks to convert one unit at a time.
Yeah, I didn't understand that either. If he had used 1 monk per conversion, he would have converted way more units.
Explain that to me. Monks are slow and squishy, correct? Couldn't they be killed long before any conversions happen?
He was converting units of a dead player so the monks were not under any threat. Instead of using one monk to convert one unit each, he used the whole group to convert 1 unit which depletes all of their faith. Effectively, if he had 20 monksand converted 1 unit per monk he would have converted units 20 times faster. He was converting units at the same rate he would have been able to with a single monk.

Gray had me for a hot second there, when it looked like he was playing 3-D chess with a free army, a ton of resources, and a relic victory. It looked like a brilliant strategy that would have allowed for a huge amount of spamming to preserve the monasteries. Then Gray stopped trying to win, and that irritated me because it robbed me of what could have been a beautiful wacky strategy.
Maybe grey is an AI in training???

As soon as I saw Aurion get savaged by wolfs, I put my money on them to win.... as for grey... well.... the army of the dead was funny but the wonder/relic yeah nah, yeah nah, was messing with my ocd…. JUST BUILD IT!!!! haha

While I agree that leaving the relic victory makes the game better, 4 for one king is too much. You just need to find one of the neutral relic and snipe one king to already have enough. Then you just turtle. Sure no one did that in this game but I think thats just because no one knew how the relic worked. They were so surprised when the countdown started for grey. Now that people know, most games will probably end with a relic win very fast.
Kings should drop 2 relics, then I would say its balanced.

These pilgrim games are the best ones and it's weird sometimes you think the videos almost over and there's like 1 hour left, then sometimes you think there's gunna be ages left and it turns out there's only like 5 mins left lol

Fun to see a vid with Aurion and Saly before the Legends of Texas vid. Winning the game after losing his vills to wolves and starting only with a half dead woman was quite an achievement...

Make a map with only monks, and indestructable neutral units (knights, archers etc). Each player starts with 20-30 monks and battle to keep converting the neutral units, no making an army, and players who lose all monks lose.
Isn't it ironic that purple won after getting ravaged by wolves right at the start of the game?...

With this I thought of one game: Same mode but one player is ally with everybody till the last player is standing. This player starts with nothing but 1 monk in imperial age. Only can covert units and buildings of enemies that have already died. Then when the second to last player has died this player can change to enemy and fight.

Hi, I have one question, is worth to get the game on Steam for 20$ even if I already have the old versions ? I don't really care about better graphics but it seems there are lots of new civs to use. I know it was a terrible deal for Age of Mythology since the port was poorly done and the game would freeze all the time no matter the performance of your computer, my actual question is, is Age of Empires II HD smooth on steam ?
If you want to play on Voobly using your old version of AOC is completly fine. However if you want to play HD, or use the new civs (HD and Voobly) you need the Steam version and expansions. However if you can wait the game and all expansions usually is more then 70% off during steam sales :)

I love this game mode
Crazy game idea.... everyone starts with a wonder and it has 3 times as long of a count down. Double HP and can increase with upgrades. Would put pressure on the players to attack quick and maybe see some Feudal fights or castle age fighting more. If everyone has one it would be a crazy mad dash for the win.

Im sooo angry at green what the hell. How did it take him soooo long to realize that? He didnt even do much elsewhere. That was bad. And since blue was allied with him he couldve easily warned him but he also didnt do it. I would be paranoid the whole time in this mode... how are those people THAT oblivious?
And im pretty sure grey wasnt really playing. He made basically no units and was almost 100% inaktiv the entire time after reaching imp. Except converting a few units at some points he didnt do anything.

What if you put 5 relics in the monastery of a dead player and then hid 5 more in your own and then accuse the other players of them having relics.
Man, blue was playing so competently (and the goths are always strong)--kept winning battles, plus the methodical blockade of snippy's king and the use of multiple garrisoned castles near each other as a tricky king refuge--but then going for the wonder victory (though also about as well-executed as possible) seemed like a huge miscalculation.

Sorry T90, but AoE2's not the best game in the world. SupComFA and Dungeon Keeper are a step higher, and all the way up there is a giant slade monument of Tarn Adams with a disc holding a copy of Dwarf Fortress sealed inside his head, mandatory streams of lava flowing out of his eyes.
