Absolutely love Portishead and the Roseland NYC concert with the philharmonic was simply amazing! 2 other highly overlooked groups to check out, Elysian Fields, which while not trip hop, lead vocalist Jennifer Charles has the most sultry and seductive voice I've ever heard. Start off with their tracks, Black Acres, Rope of Weeds and Tides of the Moon; the other group is Morcheeba in particular their album Big Calm, it's like a musical tropical vacation, a few highlights in a spectacular album, The Sea, Blindfold, Over & Over and Fear & Love.
The sample, the main sample throughout, that amazing noise which is one of the things that makes this song so memorable is from a spy movie called The Danube Incident with the score done by the wonderful Lalo Schifrin, writer of such things as the Dirty Harry themes and Mission Impossible score.

Hi guys, great reaction. Portishead haven’t split but they don’t play very often together. There last gig was last month in Bristol for the war child charity. For more info on the band there is a good documentary on here about glory box by new British cannon that is about 20 mins that is worth a watch.
I've loved Portis Head since I heard them in a movie soundtrack for Stealing Beauty. Silly movie with a really good soundtrack including a John Lee Hooker / Santana song that I've never heard anywhere else.
