Narset's reversal + Kalamax is a fantastic combo. If your opponent casts a sorcery for 2 blue you counterspell and bounce it back to their hand and you get two +1/+1 counters and keep Narset's in your hand like 0 buyback AND you do whatever their spell was trying to do. If your opponent casts a instant you can get 3 +1/+1 counters and do all the rest. This blows away many control spells in terms of efficiency and you can do it every turn. You can also use it to buyback your own spells in a pinch but less effect than disrupting your opponents gameplan and stealing their mana vs using your own mana. Better to 2 blue steal their spell than 3 blue cast your own brainstorm without it leaving your hand. I'm not sure if it counts as a combo or not but Kalamax easily gains +1/+1 through his built in ability and Not of This World rapidly becomes a free counterspell to protect him from getting thrown off the board and interrupting your gameplan. Considering there is no downside like exiling additional cards for your hand etc pretty slick. Also Kalamax + twinning staff (or similar effect like double vision) enables special effects on counterspells. If you dismiss your opponents spell you draw a card. If Kalamax copies you get no tangible bonus besides being harder to counterspell both spell and copy. If you have two copies you can now have copies counterspell copies netting bonus cards. Rewind with 2 copies nets a positive mana gain instead of just getting your mana back. Particularly impactful with like an arcane denial. Kalamax + twinning staff + unsubstantiate - you go from 1 copy returning two creatures to 2 copies bounce a creature + your unsubstantiate back to your hand each turn. You now can potentially for 2 mana return a commander every time they cast it or other nasty creature. Not bad like a super capsize (without being able to hit other permanent types ofc).
Not even 7:30 in the am. Haven't drank my first cup of coffee. And I'm already brewing ideas with this Dino. Wife is already giving me the eye rolls. What a good day.
@@KingofJank that's true. I can run on brewed jank. But keeping up with my wild 2 year old required the dark elixir of the gods, to power me threw the day.
Holy Molly.. I bought The Kalamax pre-con this morning and as I was modifying it, I stumbled upon my Ral and Doublescast.. I saw the possibility of a huge likely combo, but I didn't think I would be able to simply copy it over and over... I did not picture the Stack and Resolving spells clear enough in my mind, but now that I saw your video.. This is ridiculous. To be honest, I dislike infinite combos so bad, but I'll sure use it if I see another infinite-shit coming to me from an opponent..!
Normally you don't cast copy spells, but spellbinder specifically says "you may play that copy without paying it's mana cost" which has now been errata'd to "cast that copy" so it would trigger. But otherwise, you're right copies generally do not cast
I think he explained the combo well but once he started going into other possible options he got sloppy with cards. Like for instance the giant growth pumps were not optimal uses as he was tapping kalamax then pumpin him but not atacking with kalamax so thats a wast of a pump for 2 plus one counters. Crewing kalamax isnt really it either as it tapps the kalamax but then your not swining with him lastly saying you can get any card with the tutors is a lie they are mana dependant and the copy will only ever get one of equal or less mana value for what ever x was. Idk seemed all over the place imo
What happens if one of the oponents counter your original Reverberate after you finish the loop? Will it resolve before the copying happend or after? Will Kalamax gets the counters anyway?
so wait as long as you can play a reverberate you can just make kalamax as powerful as you want him to be? Or do you need another spell to go with it so the stack can end and not keep going forever?
also another question I have is about tapping kalamax? can I declare attack, tap him then cast spells, then do the combat damage? or does the combat damage have to happen first?
You copy the value of X that was paid when cast. If you don't cast the original spell from your hand and pay a non-zero amount, the X cost is defaulted to 0.
Mostly value in the way of endless mana Some others include Mycosynth Lattice + Darksteel Forge Mycosynth Lattice + Null Rod = a locked out game Karn Silver Golem + Liquimetal Coating = can slowly destroy opponent's lands. But nothing is coming to mind that is particularly game ending.
Hmm the problem is if you don't have another source to tap Kalamax You need to attack with first to tap him Then you can't attack with infinite Pestermite tokens anymore. So, more prep needed.
Very true. But in the case with Pestermite Kiki-Jiki, you can use the convoke ability on Chord of Calling to tap Kalamax, IF you use Chord of Calling to get the Kiki combo.
I was gonna add more in the video but decided to keep it short. Here are some more: Deadeye Navigator + Peregrine Drake = Infinite mana, infinite ETB triggers Temur Sabertooth + Dockside Extortionist (while opponents have atleast 5 artifacts or enchantments) = Infinite Mana, infinite ETB triggers Niv Mizzet the firemind/Niv Mizzet Parun + Tandem Lookout + Drawing 1 card = Draw your whole deck, deal damage equal to your deck size Mycosynth Lattice + Darksteel Citadel = All your permanents are indestructible Mycosynth Lattice + Null Rod = Lands can't be tapped for mana. Dualcaster Mage can also be gross with this because you can copy a spell when it enters, so you can copy your chord of calling, to get a third creature. So Dualcaster Mage + Deadeye Navigator + Peregrine Drake can grab every creature in you deck with CMC X or less.
@@KingofJank I really like the Niv Mizzet Parun + Tandem Lookout!! Tandem Lookout will work well with Guttersnipe and Electrostatic Field as back ups. Like you said, Kalamax only copies your first instant when he is tapped, so if you have him tapped and play a sorcery, and then respond to it with a copy spell like Reverberate, Kalamax will copy the Reverberate and the copy goes on the stack. With the Copied Reverberate you target the Original Reverberate Card. When Copied Reverberate resolves, you make a copy of the Original Reverberate Card. This makes a 2nd Copied Reverberate. This 2nd Copied Reverberate is not made from Kalamax, it is made from the first Copied Reverberate (the one made by Kalamax) copying the Original Reverberate Card. That 2nd Copied Reverberate can now target the Original Reverberate Card, making a 3rd Copied Reverberate. and the loop continues.

Thats the best way to use a combo in my opinion: Only to stop someone else from winning or to end the game when it has gone for too long.
Can't wait to get my hands of this commander tomorrow. Good content. Thanks!
Awesome! Enjoy the smell of a brand new EDH deck!
Great video. I'm not sure if you get the copy off of spellbinder however, as you never "cast" the card imprinted on it.
Normally you don't cast copy spells, but spellbinder specifically says "you may play that copy without paying it's mana cost" which has now been errata'd to "cast that copy" so it would trigger.

Even without the infinity combo, Ral is so much fun in this deck! Definitely my favourite card in the 99.
You've explained this very well.

I wish that their was more instant speed ramp spells that could go into a Kalamax deck
Yeah I agree. The two that come to mind are Growth Spiral and Natural Connection...and then I don't want to think any harder lol

Hey thanks for the video. The concept was getting confusing but this cleared it all up! +1
Copy stuff on the stack can lead to some weird stuff, glad it helped!
DON’T FORGET Simic Ascendancy is a combo too!
Damn, I always try to push the Ascendancy win....and I fuckin forgot in this one...
King of Jank it’s pretty sweet and no one is talking about it and that’s to your content my Kalamax deck wins on turn 6 about every game!
No fatal frenzy?
I’m on the toilet and these fart noises are throwing me off lol
Glad my videos reach even the most private viewings.
nice video!! 1.5 speed is they way to see this tho XD
I thought that when you copied a spell with X, the X for the copy was automatically 0
You copy the value of X that was paid when cast. If you don't cast the original spell from your hand and pay a non-zero amount, the X cost is defaulted to 0.
What 2 artifacts would even be worth it other than for value with whir?
Mostly value in the way of endless mana

I'm looking for two card creature/artifact combos to put in this deck, anyone got any good suggestions?? Or maybe a video on it??
I was gonna add more in the video but decided to keep it short. Here are some more:

Mycosynth Lattice + Null Rod = Lands can't be tapped for mana.
Dualcaster Mage can also be gross with this because you can copy a spell when it enters, so you can copy your chord of calling, to get a third creature.

Thanks for the reply and great video :)
I still don't get why kalamax would continually copy. It should only automatically copy once. It does say first instant spell
