hmmm,... Beppu is utterly stinky from the hot spring water but the hotel Umine Beppu is extremely nice (hmmm,.. you are right, there are many Korean tourists in Beppu !). I suppose that the people in Beppu saw Tokyo, Osaka and Kyoto towers so they wanted to build Beppu Tower ... to me, it's cute but not majestic at all. The town of Beppu isn't pretty but there is so much hot spring water, it gets dumped into the drainage system and bubbles up from the manholes during high tide. I am sorry you had earthquake ... it is normal so I will probably die this way ! (^_^) ... (um,... also,... in the shrine, you should not be walking in the center of the path ... )
Please excuse me, this is another comment,... I had to come back to Japan because of family chores for Obon. Tokyo was so miserable hot I went to Gunma Prefecture. I think Kusatsu Onsen is much better than Beppu. There is more tradition and 「水文化」about bathing here.
@@HappyGaijin hmmm,.... the water here is so hot it needs to be cooled before bathing. There is a lot of sulfur so it stinks but it is really good for your skin. wow! Minamoto Yoritomo came here to bathe !
