I've waited for gates to drop, but only at certain places where I knew the payoff was well worth it. This area is worth it for intermediate class skiers to get a great experience for pow. For advanced or expert skiers, not so much worth the wait. You wanna see chaos for pow, go to Alta after a serious dump, and wait for either the backside or high shoulder to open. I have to admit, as someone who has stood in line at the front of the rope for 45+ minutes waiting for it to open, I got a little pissy just watching this video of you cutting to the front; not to mention it looked like the people in front of you knocking into each other seemed rather rude...for what? A couple hundred yards of untracked? The run did make me jealous I admit, but be courteous.

    • @freekzero
      @freekzero 7 ปีที่แล้ว +32

      Yeah. I know there are no friends on power days but there was alot of less than exemplary behaviour in that video. And of course hardly any examples of trying to minimize lines so others can have some fun (Ryan did at least semi follow lines on a couple occasions, and I did spot ONE pair of matched powder turns).
      Can't say I'm surprised, just bummed. Frankly not a bad sub-example of why the whole world is fucked these days. Everyone wants it all, and bitches when they don't get it, but no consideration to others who are in the same boat. All entitlement, no responsibility.

    A lot of negative comments by people who don't realize that this "crowd" was the result of bad planning. The lift should have closed until the avalanche inspection was over. If they opened the lift after the fact, this mountain would have been wide open. I ski Utah all the time (have a place there) and the mountains are big and wide open on most days. In fact, there are a dozen mountains to chose from within a relatively short drive so you can avoid the more "touristy" mountains or "locals only" mountains that tend to very busy on weekends. Ski on weekdays, get on early, and go into the back country. You'll have hours of skiing with virtually no crowds.

      this was a bluebird day after the storm when road to provo was the last to open. the twin peaks (pipeline) are directly above the road to provo and are very steep often with huge cornices leading to avalanche hazard. often road to provo is the last terrain to open.

Every other day was a powder day. 690" is what's in the books, but the real number was a locals favorite; 801. 801" was measured on the mountain and is also the area code. I got the t-shirt. That's over 65 FEET of snow. Getting first trax after an Interlodge (People get locked down in the lodge until after mountain safety blows the slide paths) is beyond epic; it's galactic! With skis as wide as water skis, you still plunge waist or shoulder deep with each turn. You ski off a solid 20 or 30' and barely compact on landing. You land straight leg and then blast through your bomb hole. It's just nuts!

    To all the people here who are calling him a bitch for cutting the line, I think you all have the wrong idea. This isn't a line for a chairlift, it's a line on the flat ground to the traverse. This is powder, you go where you need to be to ski it whenever you can. you don't necessarily have 'rights' to it because you stood there first. If you want powder, especially at a place like snowbird, you have to go out and get it. Great vid, keep up the good work.
