    It's true, this particular nuance isn't talked about explicitly, and has to be picked up by ear or experimentation. Thanks for that!

    I've been able to learn a lot from your videos. Would like to know more about the cante. The cantaores who talk about it here are not capable of explaining anything. They just sing and say, now you! Any tips?

    Kai, i've been playing drums for 40 yrs in bands. I'm now learning (trying) Flamenco as my partner is Spanish. By immersing myself into the Music and Culture, hopefully the language will follow. Can I say that out of everything I've attempted 'Spanish', you as a teacher I understand everything (mas o menos). What a great Teacher you are, thank you sir. You have opened a really great Bridge of communication and understanding for me, between 20th century 'western' Music and this fantastic style that seems to have been omitted in Western education, somewhat.

      Ealing School of Drums Thank so much for this! Really makes it all worthwhile when we comments like this one, and if I can help a drummer understand time that’s something! Let me know if you have questions!

      @@FlamencoExplained I love it :-) This Buleria started on 12 is my main thing. This day and age Drummers understand and can Displace patterns, but ultimately it's feeling it. So there are sort of 'fast' ways to get around it all, and 'cheat' .But what is the most refreshing thing is how Rhythmically advanced this actually is. All without the aid of Academia. The Bernstein 'West Side Story' is my main reference for a 12 Compass. But that startes on 1. But it has to has too for Mortals like me. But you managed to bridge the gap, and it is a huge Gap, not many people can do this, it's not easy. Thanks again Kai, it's wonderful stuff Bravo Gipsy Folk ! a 56 year old British Rock Drummer Salutes you . Muchas, muchas, muchas Gracious Todos !!

    Jazz is the same story -- a ton of learned vocabulary, strung together in different orders

      Exactly - step one is understanding the concept, then you spend the rest of your life learning the vocabulary

      tookamooka Unfortunately no.. We’ve been requesting this feature (and slo-mo) from our developer and they keep saying ‘maybe’. We’d love to have it also!

    What is the best way to build a falseta repertoire?

    • @FlamencoExplained
      @FlamencoExplained  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Start learning ones you love and that are playable for you. I’d start with two or three for each palo you play, and then go back and add more.

    Hi kai. I notice flamenco guys don't anchor down with the right hand when doing arpeggios etc. Eg: anchoring with the pinky to stabilize the hand. I learnt on a steel string and always anchored down. Is there a disadvantage to anchoring in flamenco ?

    • @FlamencoExplained
      @FlamencoExplained  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Adam - that's a great question. I feel pretty strongly that it's a bad idea, as I see it create a lot of tension in the right hand when you have to use all of the other fingers. Flat pickers don't seem to have any issue at all with it, and I think I've seen some amazing steel-string finger pickers do it as well, but you're right that we tend to avoid it in flamenco (and they avoid it in classical as well). I just think the a finger, in particular, is much more free if you don't anchor that way.
      Cheers,
      Kai

    How long should a falseta last in beat?

    • @FlamencoExplained
      @FlamencoExplained  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      A Falseta can really be as long as you want it to be - there's no limit to it's length. But if it's shorter than 2 compases long it might feel like more of an embellishment than a falseta.
      Cheers,
      Kai
