  • Welcome back to yet another installment of symphonic gorgeousness coming from the hands of veteran producer, orchestrator and sound designer Stephan Oberhoff.
    "This is long overdue - and worth the wait guys! LASS 3 has some features up it's sleeve that can't be done with ordinary patches - the polyphonic legato is truly amazing!
    While I have a small wish list for improvements, the biggest one that I could not get the 'vibrato - non vibrato' feature to work on Sordino patches (I believe Audiobro simply doesn't provide those. Granted, it's a huge job to record a whole orchestra in this different modus.
    In any case, the reasonable price and multitude of options PLUS the excellent recording quality makes LASS 3 an essential buy. It will take me YEARS to explore the full potential of this library!!"

    Terrific review!
    And those chords are TASTY.
    I love LASS 2, and when people dismiss it as an old library I can only laugh...LASS 3 is seriously one of the top 5 libs on my to get list.

    I like single instruments but the chords sound so warm and lush. Its like watching an old film with these strings. Hey thanks for the videos I really appreciated the hard work.

    LASS 3 does feature an option for velocity-sensitive dynamics for longs (Dynamics cogwheel > "Vel" button to the upper right of that popover).

    There's something remarkable about how good LASS sounds on thicker chords. Sounds like old cinema in the best way possible.

    Regarding your caveat "No Velocity dynamic", at 9:18, there actually are several ways to set to Velocity, CC, CC+ Velocity, etc. !! Open the Dynamics Cog under the big Dynamics knob and choose what mode you want and you can even draw your own curves.

    Well done thanks. Appreciate you pointing out the issues like the lack of sordino vibrato and lack of velocity dynamic (not an issue for me btw). I just purchased it.

    I too wish the patches could be velocity sensitive. (I’ve been a LASS 2 user, upgraded to LASS 3 last Dec)

    Do you know an online course where I can learn how to create the harmonic progressions you're playing?

    It was refreshing to see someone sing the praises of Audiobro's string products especially after video after video on TH-cam channels keep reviewing the same libraries from the same over praised companies such as Spitfire, Orchestral Tools, and Cinematic Studio Strings. I know it's personal, but I own Spitfire string products, and this love affair with Spitfire is a bit overdone. With very little tweaking, Modern Scoring Strings by Audiobro and their latest update with LA Scoring Strings 3, which you cover, really sound like strings when played properly. I think many reviewers fail to spend the necessary time to learn the interface which is much more robust than the competition. Nothing is perfect of course, but I really would like to hear the reason why more professionals have not adapted their products.
    Stephan, can you review Modern Scoring Strings and Modern Scoring Strings Expanded Legato ( latest updates ). I would like to know if those products solved some of your negatives on LASS 3.

    After all the strings libraries tried, yesterday I came back to Lass 2.0, and instantly my mock up sounds amazing, could you please make a tutorial how you mix Lass and what reverb you uss?

    Thanks a lot Stephan for this great review/demonstration of the LASS 3 and for pointing out those few things that need improvement such as the sordino vibrato/non vibrato control not working and the Velocity dynamic control also not working, two very important aspects that I really hope AudioBro has addressed by now, considering that this update has been out for a few months. Take care and best regards, Max 🙏
    PS: Do you intend to publish more LASS 3 video demonstrations? Do you also have the AudioBro Modern Scoring Strings?

      Hey there - I might do that in the future. If you are in a hurry I can assemble your orchestra with you over zoom in one-on -one sessions! You'll learn how to make this stuff so expressive and get the most out of what you already own!

    So in the articulations editor, I've noticed options such as Midi CC stack, Note Vel stack... What I haven't figured out is what MidiStackSm or VelStackSm options offer that differs? Been racking my head around it and couldn't find anything in documentation on what Sm stands for

    Also, I know this would be additional work, but in lieu of velocity dynamic - could you overlay a FC to get the dynamic inner lines?

    Out of the box sounds pretty great and inspiring, with some great chords 7:46! and a bit of tweaking enough to invoke a sense of beauty, romanticism.

    • @RideTheFuture
      @RideTheFuture  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      If you call "out of the box" more than 3 weeks of tweaking, adjusting the EQ's on all 5 contributing programs, creating dedicated multi FX routings internally, trying and re-trying, yeah, then it sure sounds good out the box ;-)
      Glad you enjoyed it! Please subscribe if you haven't already. Thanks for watching!

    This is absolutely amazing. LASS is still the greatest, and paired with your chord vocabulary this video is truly inspiring. May I ask what the CC2 is controlling? Is it transformed to CC1 behind the scenes?

    • @EasternPromisesMusic

      By default (in LASS 3), CC2 is mapped to vibrato

    Velocity sensitivity is a feature I’ve requested years ago, but there were no plans to add it to LASS 2. Too bad, because it’s critical for playing piano & strings live.
    I don’t have my LASS 3 installed properly yet. (download issues). But from what you’re saying, LASS 3 still doesn’t have velocity added.

    • @RideTheFuture
      @RideTheFuture  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks so much for the for the kind words Lance! The odd thing is that LASS 2 and 2.5 are responding to velocity - it's just the programming of LASS 3 doesn't permit adding it in. I prepared most of my patches to give a noticeable boost when I strike the note a bit harder.
      Think I'm going to do a separate video about the upgrading of especially the "Al Schmitt" patch...!

  • @Dzineboy

    Hello Stephan, you said you “spent weeks on this program to get it to sound like this”. Can you please explain what you meant by that statement? Did you have to make a bunch of adjustments in the KONTAKT editor?

    • @RideTheFuture
      @RideTheFuture  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey Daniel and thanks for asking that question! The time I spent finding the right combination of patches, which mode (sordino/arco) they were supposed to be in, the automation parameters (sometimes I let the foot pedal (CC11) control vibrato along with volume etc.
      SInce the ear gets accustomed to sound quickly, I had to take long breaks between sessions. All in all, I want to say it took me about 2 weeks until I got happy with the sound of this assemblage of patches.
      Next, I took some 3 kHz out of some of the arco patches to get that smooth sound - Audiobro tend to have a little much of that on some of the mics so I just mellow it out with EQ.
      Then a few more recording sessions and subsequent tweaks, voilá - now I am ecstatic!
      I can teach all this over zoom - worldwide btw. Please subscribe to the channel if you haven't already.
      Stay creative and above all: Whatever you do, do it 100% semi-professional ;)
