Dean Marie-Anne, I organize my closet by color and season. Then, when I know I have an engagement coming, I start thinking about what to wear and I "stage" my outfit ahead of time. I can also inspect the clothing for repair needs, reinforce buttons, etc. I choose my jewelry and other accessories. I feel more relaxed the day of the event and I look "put together." I love your style and I learn many tips from your videos. Merci!

I love the videos-I learn so much. That is why I think it is important for a beginner (as I was in college, didn’t care before then) to simulate an outfit curated by someone you trust to have good taste. I would copy a look I had seen my mom wear, then ask her to come “judge” it and give me suggestions. I used the clothes I had in my very limited wardrobe, and learned SO MUCH from my mom and her sisters!
Concerning the outfit... I love ALL the pieces, but would play it more simply and not wear the scarf. I would wear a pair of pearl earrings. This is because I am a novice scarf wearer, and since I’d be serving guests, I KNOW I would get something on it. The price one pays for being a natural klutz! 🤣😂🤣😂

      Dear Emily,
You are very lucky to have had a mother whose style you could emulate. Imagine my horror at seeing my mother prance around in short, tight hot pants, a skin tight top, and white go-go boots in the 1970s--at the PTA in California! I rebelled by dressing like a librarian, and my mother was horrified by my conservative and Plain Jane style. So funny!

@@nataliamiles7109 , As I read your lovely response, I have to acknowledge that while your mom’s style was NOT for you, I realize that my mom was probably older than yours! Your mom had her own sense of style, and you have to salute that. I also noticed that you have a FABULOUS sense of humor, and I certainly can appreciate that. I’ll bet you are a beautiful and stylish woman, and I love that you wrote such a lovely response to my post.

      Dear Emily,
Thank you so much for your wise, kind reply. My mother was Spanish (from Spain) with a completely different outlook on style; she was ahead of her time by wearing very sexy clothing in an area of Northern California that was very puritanical, old-fashioned. I wanted her to dress like the other staid mothers, and I could not appreciate her courage in defining her own style. She was very beautiful with a figure like Charo's or Marilyn Monroe's and a face like Penelope Cruz's. Thank you for opening my eyes and seeing my dear mother in a different light. I am indebted to you for your wisdom and compassion and feel humbled by your words.
      Sincerely,

The finished outfit is very much like something I wore the other day to a daytime art gallery opening, My skirt wasn't a print, it was lightweight black-and-white silk tweed with a narrow band of flat black lace at the hem. Otherwise, totally the same down to a black-and-white scarf.

You are right, a homemade cake is valued more for most of the U.S., The exception is in New York City where kitchens are small and there are lots of bakeries. Growing up I thought if you had a homemade birthday cake, you were deprived. I liked the bigger color block scarf and I loved the pop of red in the clutch. I am afraid in much of the U.S., that outfit would be way too dressy to go to the store.

I would wear what you are wearing in the video and that’s usually what I wear when I have company. I LOVE the slacks, sweater and scarf - you are the epitome of French chic. Also, I would be afraid to spill something on myself in a white blouse, even with an apron. Please bring back your original music - I miss that charming tune.

I will make this outfit as part of my new wardrobe. It's prima.
I used to wear black for work. I stopped working so i was about to get rid of all of the black chlothes.
What i did, i cut the dresses and turned them into tops. My black evening dresses, i transformed into tops' skirts, foulards with the linings. I searched for white shirts, T-shirts, etc...
The other dresses will be good again in the summer. So much fun, and have to buy any new things this winter. Falling in love again with black n white. Thanks !

That is a beautiful skirt! It looks so lovely with the simple top. The black blazer sets it off magnificently. I love black and white together. Like you say simple yet elegant. I prefer the second scarf you chose because of the larger field of black and white. I think it complements the skirt better. Although the first scarf is also black and white, (and elegant) the constant, thin, repeating black and white field of color to me is not as pleasing to the eye as the other scarf. I noticed you chose the larger printed scarf as you walked along the picturesque neighborhood when you went shopping for cake and baguettes. What a great start to Sunday lunch.

Excellent. I enjoy videos of you making up an outfit and the reasons behind it. Actually I am wearing clothes very similar when I serve dinner after church. I enjoyed both scarves but like the second option better as it was less busy. I rarely wear jeans out and like to look put together. It is interesting that people comment and ask where I am going...we have become too casual as a society here in the US. I like making up outfits and putting them on a rail to wear. I do this in advance and find that I dress better when I have taken the time to create my outfits. Your outfit was elegant and lovely. Enjoyed seeing you go to market. Many thanks.

Marie-Anne, as I had said some weeks ago I always like to plan my outfits in advance, even when I’m traveling. People might think this is a stressing thing but is not for me.
Sundays is usually weird for me, I like to look relaxed but well dressed when I go to church ( jeans, a button down shirt, a marinier or a long sleeve cotton shirt if it’s too hot, a light V-neck sweater if it’s cool and mocassins plus my beloved scarves ). But most people go wearing sports clothes (tennis, football team T-shirts and I have enven seen a couple of people with short pants to my horror).
Here people are not formal and generally Costa Ricans are not known for being chic or well dressed but sport clothes for church or going out really gives me headaches.
Well we “french chic people” will always look different and people notice it. I hope this might make others reconsider their outfits!
Marie-Anne style and lessons should go viral!
By the way I’m back in America from my beautiful vacations in Europe and I brought some new ideas (and clothes purchased with your advice on mind ).
By the way yesterday my plane flew over Normandie and I sent you a big kiss saying “merci Marie-Anne!”😻
A funny note, the American Airlines flight attendant keep talking to me in French although I spoke to her mostly in English when my French was not good enough and then she told me “oh with your accent and specially your style I was sure you were French”. That was also the reason she kept serving me more wine than to the man seated next to me (by the way I asked French wine over American) She made my day!
    A bientot!😸

Fun video. I liked how you explain the process.
I have more of a pear or hourglass shape so I prefer a plain dressy pair of black or charcoal grey pants and a light top in a creamy white silky fabric to balance me or a black top to create a column. I like the skirt outfit on you- it is perfect on your slim frame.
I have a black lace top similar to the cream lace one you showed & it’s been one I love with black dress pants and a pair of black low heels. That or my cream silky top, 2 crepe tops in white & off white or a silky black cowl neck sleeveless top.
I thought of my own basic outfit right away because I do choose it when having Sunday dinner at our place.
I wear a favourite pair of pearl earrings to take the eye up. I love scarves but I need an open neckline when I am doing the cooking. I wear scarves often when I go out to our daughter-in-law’s or our daughter’s place or out to a restaurant.
My red soft knit jacket with 3/4 sleeves is a favourite topper. I have an embroidered black velvet jacket that nips in at the waist that I love but it’s very warm so winter only and not wearing when I am dealing with carving meat etc. (Husband hates carving so I do that in the kitchen plus apron)

I’m so excited to have found the same skirt in H&M, so elegant and cozy without spending a lot. Thanks so much for the video!

    Dear Ms. Lecoeur:
First, I love the second silk scarf with the outfit--the blocks of black and white are perfect. Second, I love the shots of you in the village--so enchanting. I am in love with the village and want to see more--so intrigued. You are so blessed to live in such a lovely area. Thank you for this lesson in coordinating an elegant outfit for a luncheon.

The outfit is perfect as it is. It doesn't need an accessory. Maybe a single piece of jewelry. A neck chain or earrings and you are finished. You don't even really need jewelry but I would want pearl stud earrings with that outfit.

Love both scarves but I think the striped one wins out if I had to chose!

  • @patbarclift1172
    @patbarclift1172 ปีที่แล้ว

I don't care for the striped scarf as much. Maybe the tiny stripes are too close in size to the skirt print. The big bold blocking of the larger scarf creates a better contrast. Sorry I seem to always come late to your videos, but I'm relatively new here! The skirt flows and flirts when you walk. It wants that nice long stride when you walk. I just love this outfit!

I always plan my outfit ahead of time. For instance, this Saturday is my mother's 90th birthday. We are having a big family party for her and it is casual. Two weeks ago, I started planning what to wear. I wanted a new pair of jeans and top. Now, I'm styling them. I'm going to add a scarf to my red blouse and blue jeans. Navy, I believe. I liked both scarfs you tried, but the second does look best. I'm going to watch some of your scarf tying videos to find a new way to style my scarf. I loved the video. Fun.

I like black and white or navy and white. I might use an accessory for a small pop of color if I want it.

I have learned a lot from your videos. I like skirts, and almost all my skirts are black/darker color, because I can wear black tights and shoes in cold days. Do you wear nude color tights at all with lighter skirts? do you wear no show socks with pump/loafer ?

I consider what I wear outside my home but don't give much thought to what I wear when I entertain, beyond being "presentable." (Gone are the days when we wore long hostess skirts and ruffly white blouses for holiday parties at home.) Thanks for the challenge.

I've always loved black/white combo as it is very CHIC! However, as I am redhead w freckles, it is somewhat stark so I add an accessory near face in warm category to provide balance with my coloring. The outfit you have created is elegant, however I don't think I'd wear the blazer for an at home outfit but something more casual...

Love your videos, but thinking that this is a rather formal look for a Swiss Sunday lunch. I always try to make sure guests coming to the countryside don’t find me looking so “air hostess.” I’d drop the blazer and scarf and opt for a cardigan with nice buttons. Thanks!

Your posture is so beautiful, Marie Anne! Any tips on how to improve posture? Also, do you feel everyone can wear black near their face? I love black, it is so chic...but sometimes I feel it washes me out close to the face. Maybe scarves are the answer?! 😀
