I am not a parent. I am not even in a relationship, I love watching homeschool room tours. If/when I have kids someday, I wanna homeschool them. I homeschooled on and off through high school, but I wish I did it all my life tbh.
Thank you for featuring Bean! My 13 year old's guinea pig died a few months ago and he misses her so much! Desk looks a bit better in old spot, but I would go with what your daughter prefers.
Currently homeschooling my 1st and 3rd graders. My 7th grader is doing distance learning due to quarantine, but she was homeschooled for 5th and 6th grade. I gotta say I love having her back home even though she’s missing being at school. Our dogs are in and out throughout the school day. I love the idea of having a class pet though! I like your daughter’s desk the original way, but I’m sure with time you’ll see what works best for her. It’s still fun to change it up sometimes, though! I remember loving when the teacher would move desks around when I was a kid also.
I love your homeschool space and tips! You gave me an awesome idea of where to place our princess guinea pig. They are very messy lol. We are constantly sweeping up bedding and hay. I love how you have everything so organized. I like the desk setup the way you you have it now, because it gives you more space. It’s so convenient to have the storage under the desk so they are not having to get up and down to grab books. Thank you so much for sharing 😍
I love the sunflower clock! My 5 & 6 year old girls would love it, very helpful. If you know where I could print the petals ect off at I would greatly appreciate it ❤ I love her desk where it is. My girls wanted theirs in front of the windows so they can feel the sunshine while working.
Love Bean! Thank you for this video, sharing your tips, and links. We do not have a dedicated homeschool room, but have been thinking about establishing one in our basement. We have 3 kids and I think there would be so much benefit to that because I feel SO disorganized and cramped in our dining room. Your ideas are so practical and helpful. Also, I bet your daughter would appreciate a little change in her desk direction, but I like the look of the other way better. 🙂
I love your room. We have that same IKEA shelf. It holds so much! I like the way you positioned your daughters desk. You are so organized. I'm just barely starting to plan for Fall.
Thank you! Ikea is a great place to find inexpensive desks and organizers, isn't it? I really wish we had one closer but it's probably a good thing that we don't or I'd be there way too often! lol Don't feel bad, I'm not normally this "ahead" when it comes to planning and organizing for a new homeschool year.
I like the desk the way it was before but having it this way will get more light. I also remember how exciting it was when the teacher would move the desks around so maybe try it out like this and see how it works. Thanks for always sharing your homeschool journey. It has helped me so much! I need to look into all those math games you have. I have 2 girls as well, one is going into third grade and one is starting kindergarten this coming school year. 🙂
Yes, it definitely looks better the old way but she loves it this way so we will leave it for awhile. I’m so glad my videos have been helpful! That’s so nice to hear! 😊
My son will be going into the 3rd grade next year. We are currently working on a homeschooling room for him. We will not have any pets in the homeschool room but we have 12 pets. 4 crested geckos, 4 cats, 2 parakeets and 2 small dogs. I think either desk way is fine, its just whatever functions best for your family. 😊
Wow, that's a lot of pets! My oldest wanted to get a lizard before she got her budgie. Now she calls him "her son" and wouldn't trade him for the world!
I think you should let it be different for your daughter to try out. After a couple weeks, ask her how she likes it... let your daughter choose since it's going to be her who sits in it and works in it. Let her decide. Thanks for sharing! God bless you and yours! It looks good either way anyways.
Good tips!!..Love the idea of laminating to use as dry erase because it definitely saves paper & time. I like the desk placement either way but it seems to give more room when you had it placed in front of the window. One tip for the squeaky drawers, pull the drawers out & apply either WD-40 or a little virgin oil on a q-tip to the wheel & track. NO SOUNDS!!....Thanks for sharing.😀💙
Thanks! I didn't show me actually making it but basically I just bought 2 maps, cut one and laminated each state and attached a velcro dot on the back. Then I hung the other map and attached the other side of the velcro dot to each state.
Love the organization in your homeschool room. I am praying that we can make it to an IKEA at the end of June to see their home office organization products. Right now our learning space is the office/craft/homeschool room. Thank you for the tip. I love the drawer for the unfinished projects. What a great idea! Thank you!
Hey Becky! I’ve rewatched this video a million times, I have you on constantly in the house my girls think we are friends! Haha anywho, wd-40 on the squeaky drawers! Recently learned the hack and it’s sooooooo quiet now! Have a great week!
Becky! You have so many great tips! Thank you. You are an inspiration. 🌸 I also do the teacher keys in one binder, and love it. It makes it so much easier. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for the video. Design wise and based on Human Dimension standards, you need between 18-24" space around your desk . You must(we say must as most people don't take it serious lol) be able to move around without turning to your side or tip toeing etc. When you are space designing if you are trying to do it yourself without professional help, you have to keep in mind that if for instance a fire hazard happens, how fast you can evacuate. This is why in fire stations their desk must be toward the wall so the area is free of any obstacle. I liked it horizontal better and it looked nicer, but this way is more functional as it seems you have the standard walking measurement around it. Also, if you put the desk horizontally whenever you want to write something you are creating shadow on your paper as the light source is behind you which could be a little annoying. You made a good choice. ;) By the way I lOVE LOVE your map and clock ideas; you are so creative.
Thanks so much! She's loving her desk the way it is even though I think it technically looks better the other way. We can always move it back when she gets tired of it this way. :)

Hi Becky.. I dont have a homeschool question but an organization question. I know your older daughter is an artist and draws/sketches/paints. Our daughter is the same. Loves to sketch/paint. The draws she can use are already filled( its a disaster) . So trying to think of what to do with these books. No room for a book shelf. She goes through a sketch book a week almost!. So there are alot of books! She is constantly drawing her own Anime characters. I could store them in our shed. I have the same problem and I'm not going to lie and say I take pictures of them and throw them away like some professional organizers will tell you to do. I like to keep the originals. We have a shelf in the garage that has nothing but totes for the girls' art. You'll see that when I show my garage organization video in the next month or so.
Just to throw another option out there...have u tried it sort of angled facing your desk verses straight out? Kind of creating a triangle with her desk the window and the shelf that's behind it.

I got the liners from an Etsy shop called, The Homespun Loft. They have saved me soooo much money in bedding! You can get cage liners other places, too so do a Google search to see what you can find that fits the cage you have. If you sew, you could make your own. It's just fleece with a waterproof layer sewn in between. We do little spot cleanings when it's really bad but since we clean her out twice a week, it's not always necessary. As for her desk, she likes it better this way so for now, I'll leave it. : )

Yes our cats sit with us or on top of the printer(on the desk) while we homeschool.
i like the desk the new way its been moved 👍

Hi Becky..
I dont have a homeschool question but an organization question.
I know your older daughter is an artist and draws/sketches/paints.
Our daughter is the same. Loves to sketch/paint. My issue is she has lots of sketch books. I dont want to throw them out as it has her drawing in them. We are busting at the seams with them! We have very limited space. The draws she can use are already filled( its a disaster) . So trying to think of what to do with these books. No room for a book shelf. She goes through a sketch book a week almost!. So there are alot of books! She is constantly drawing her own Anime characters.
I could store them in our shed.
Going to see if I can free up a hall closet specifically for crafts/ school supplies/ her art stuff. At this point I think thats what needs to happen.
She has a small desk but she really doesnt use it. Its just houses the sketck books! Lol
( We live with my elderly mother with dementia. She hates change and questions everything being done. I have to do things on the down low just so we can have space too. So thats why space is so limited)
Any ideas you can offer would be great! 💖
I have the same problem and I'm not going to lie and say I take pictures of them and throw them away like some professional organizers will tell you to do. I like to keep the originals. That's an interesting thought. Maybe we'll try that next time. :)
