Status Quo was very popular at the time and was the perfect choice to start the event. This was the very first song they kick-started the entire Live Aid event with. In front of, not only the huge crowd but also about 400 million viewers world wide.

To get on a crew list that day was harder than getting a Cup Final Ticket ,so many volunteered to work for free to get this done , the worst part was seeing thet BBC news report that kick started it all , the best bit was Bob geldof face to face with the Somalian Prime Minister for a photo shoot ,shook his hand pulled him close & said " Youre a C***" , always love Bob for that !

All of you need to see John Fogerty perform this song with his band. John wrote this great rock' n' roll song. It is on one of his later records decades after leaving Credence Clearwater Revival his first band. They were huge in the late 60s. Everyone knows their big hit "Proud Mary."

I was there and bought a ticket primarily to see Quo as they were one of my all time favourite bands...their first gig since what was meant to be their last show the year before (I was there too). It was a magical day and still remains my favourite gig. Quo still tour and we saw them last year in London with Lynyrd Skynyrd. Still great, still rocking...and I hope John Fogerty received all the credit due for writing such a perfect opening song for such a global event.

You should do more by them - so, so many stonking great thumpers! I remember watching the LiveAid live on TV and thinking "yep, the Quo's still got it" - they were a fairly old band by this stage (started in the late 60s). Growing up in the 70s they were one of my absolute favourite bands (Quo, Slade, Queen & Smokie, and a few Aussie bands like AC/DC, TMG, Hush & Skyhooks).

Hush used to practice at our High School (Cannington W.A). It used to cost us 50 cents to watch them rehearse during lunch break.
(When their amps worked that is)
So... Kudos for mentioning them and Skyhooks. Not often do we see them commented on. (And TMG, JPY, LRB & Stevie Wright)

This takes me back. Thousands of us slept on the concrete outside Wembley to get a good spot when the gates opened. Status Quo is one of the biggest bands in Britain. Unfortunately, they never seemed to catch on in North America to nearly the same extent. More hits in England than the Beatles and Stones combined. Sadly, two of the members in this clip have passed on....Rick Parfitt (pink shirt) and Alan Lancaster on bass. They still continue touring with replacement musicians. The lead guitarist, Francis Rossi with the green guitar, is now 72 years old and still in excellent health. They have many live dates lined up for 2022.

Not the world's greatest band and never ever pretended to be...no messages. no preaching, no deep and meaningful lyrics - just heads down, arse up, no-nonsense 12 bar blues and rock and roll - and millions around the world absolutely adore them. Even as an Australian I got to see them about 6 or 7 times down here (first time in 1976) and met hundreds of their British fans who literally follow them all over the world when they tour. Never played a show less than 2.5 hours and was a party from start to finish. We always walked out of their shows sweaty, exhausted and our ears rang for days - and we were so happy. Status Quo ARE rock and roll and I love them!

As a Quo fan since I could walk, this was a milestone, they'd stopped touring the year before (I was at the end of the road final gig at in Milton Keynes) and were in effect defunct this concert sowed the seeds for the comeback although with a different line up as Lancaster was left out(Spud had already left) and this has split the fan base to the present day. Great live band and still going strong.

This has been covered by Status Quo since 1977. Also, I heard a story that the song is so widely known by the public for being a Status Quo cover, John Fogerty actual started using a Fender Telecaster in his more later performances of this song as a nod to Status Quo (Status Quo's Francis Rossi was using a Fender Telecaster). That's the story I've heard anyway!!
