      I love em both, I'm just happy that the Genesis port is faithful and that it looks good. Some Amiga ports got really butchered for Genesis sadly, like Turrican where for the first game they removed half the levels, and for the second game they changed all the graphics to try and make it a licensed game... Xenon 2, Fatal Rewind, Lotus Turbo Challenge and Another World also seemed better on Amiga to me. Although those last two are decent ports, apart from changes to music

    • @WeskerSega
      @WeskerSega 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@auralunaprettycure The Mega Drive version of the first Turrican game doesn't remove any levels. The PC Engine and Game Boy versions are the ones that remove the third set of levels (so you skip from level 2-2 straight to level 4-1). The issues of the Mega Drive version of the first Turrican are related mostly to colors and sound, but otherwise it's 100% intact in content with the Amiga version except for the simplified ending. Speaking of the Mega Drive version of the second Turrican game and aside from all the licensing changes, in that case they did remove the shoot 'em up levels, replacing them with some boring original levels on foot.

    El primer videojuego español que llegó a consola. Un clasicazo.

    • @WeskerSega

      Debe estar en disputa con Pop Up, el primer juego que hizo New Frontier para Game Boy. Parece que ese se llegó a terminar en 1991 pero no llegó a salir hasta 1992. El problema de la versión Mega Drive de Risky Woods es que no fue de realización española como sí lo eran en cambio los juegos de consola de New Frontier/Bit Managers, pero obviamente se trata de una conversión de un juego de origen 100% español, así que por ahí se puede librar. Al fin y al cabo en New Frontier/Bit Managers solían hacer todo lo contrario, se dedicaban a hacer conversiones españolas de juegos de origen extranjero, mayormente franceses. De todas formas e independientemente de la posible disputa, desde luego lo que sí es indiscutiblemente Risky Woods es el primer videojuego español en llegar a una consola doméstica y concretamente a una de 16 bits.

      The Amiga framerate (and use of hardware) is more-or-less the same as the MD/Genesis in this case. I think in terms of comparison this is one of those games where it comes down to personal preferences.

      @@andreinoooo I know, it was a shame to see games without taking advantage of the color palette or sprites, nor did they use the blitter.

    The Megadrive takes this one hands down. The graphics of the amiga combined with the speed and responsiveness of the ST. I was recently talking to a programmer who worked on such systems back in the day, and he said that both the MD and bog stock 1mb A500 were comparable in many ways, but that the MD was just simply better. The only downsides he mentioned were its color pallet limitations which the Amiga didn't have. However the Amiga's sound engine was perhaps the best of any system of the era. And he always cringed when trying to wring out every last bit from the ST, though it was capable of some decent performance if you were willing to put in the effort. The amiga could keep up with the MD when the time was spent to make heavy use of both the Copper and Blitter, however not every game lent itself to those circumstances.
    I will say that the ST version here is actually pretty decent given the hardware. And the PC dos version here would be better served by having wave midi. But back in 1994 it would have been rare to have a computer capable of running this game decently enough.

    • @bangerbangerbro
      @bangerbangerbro 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Standard A500 is 512KB, not 1MB. Would have said that MD had the better sound engine for game purpose because you have so many more channels and it needs less data. Amiga is more capable for realistic sounds and musical variety of course,p but it's let down by only having 4 channels. Much better than most home computers of the time of course. I would have said that MD and Amiga are only comparable in the main CPU they use and nothing else really. Almost opposites. Amiga uses planar bitmap playfields, MD uses packed pixels and tilemaps. MD has line buffer drawn sprites rather than ones composited with everything else as the signal is sent, so they can be reused on the same line. MD has multiple palettes that you can use on demand for sprites or any tiles, Amiga has fixed palette locations for playfields and sprites when 16 colours are used but when 4 colours are used for sprites you can have multiple 4 colour palettes and choose between them. Anyway I agree with everything else.

    I first witnessed this game in a computer expo bk in 1993 probably that happened to be visiting my small Greek town. Me and my friends were glued on the screen until the mister that owned the particular computer booth asked us to leave in a very frustrated manner...the game faded from my memory but it remained very well on my subconscious only to resurface maany years later when i witnessed the mega drive version on an emulator...it looked very familiar but it wasnt exactly that then i searched the net and found out that i probably was playing on an amiga 500 maaan it was the best feeling ever but ofc i could never afford it bk then...such a beautiful game basically all the a500 games look amazing for their time.

    uma versão diferenciada ara o mega drive , versão estilo Havy Metal que o console sempre se propôs a ser, " Radical ", então faz sentido trocarem o boneco generico de kung fu por um Mago Guerreiro ao melhor estilo Gandalf , para o Mega Drive, e esse jogo só pela troca do personagem ficou milhões de vezes melhor, alem do jogo fluir no Mega Drive, sem engasgadas sonoras e frame rate a 60fps

    • @Midwinter2
      @Midwinter2 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@jasonlee7816 No. There is no evidence that the basic Atari ST can smoothly handle this kind of game with parallax scrolling and this number of large, animated sprites on screen. Plenty of games have tried.
      The programmers have actually done an outstanding job on this version, compared to other, similar ST games. It's very playable - and the scrolling, although a bit jerky, is acceptable. In order to achieve this, they had to remove the graphics from the background parallax layer and reduce the size of the gameplay area - these are the common strategies of ST programmers to achieve reasonable scrolling.
      Of course, they could have removed the background entirely, reduced the screen further, taken out the music and reduced the number of sprites on screen. That would have helped achieve smoother scrolling. But I think the programmers got the balance right in this case. One of the better games of this type on the ST. Very nice work.

      @wishusknight3009 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The ST is actually a very good game in its own right. It is fast and responsive with no lag really. It doesn't compare to other ports in visual or audio aspects for sure, but gameplay is top notch. If not the best of the bunch really. The MD may have the edge here though. The worst one is actually the PC version if you didn't have a really high end computer back in the day. Otherwise it would feel lethargic and soupy to control.

    There are clearly two better ones in pretty much every aspect, and two worse ones...Worse ones are Dos and Atari ST, Better ones are Amiga and Genesis/Mega Drive. Amiga has more colors, but is a tiny bit sluggish compared to super smooth Genesis (I've witnessed this in real life too, its not just youtube video) and Genesis has paralax scrolling too, sound is better on the Amiga though...

    I am going with the Amiga this time cause it has SFX and Music simultaneously which is not that common on Miggy, and the GEMS driven music of the Sega version sounds grating as always. That said the Genesis/MD is definitely number 2 and way better than the other two dross. Props to the lovely parallax on Sega though.. if the sound was less harsh I'd swap places with Miggy for sure.

    A versão do Mega Drive parece mais original do que a propria versão original pois a capa do jogo é sobre um guerreiro medieval e tem um Padre, sacerdote , cruzes e demonios, então faz muito mais sentido que o heroi seja um guerreiro em vez de um lutador de Kung Fu.

    The Amiga version is perfect as it is. The Atari version is a bit faster and it has nicer colors - but the graphics all together is worse a bit than the Amiga version. The sound is also not that good - this is usual on the Atari ST. The DOS version has the nicest graphics but the scroll is worse than on the Amiga. The OPL music is boring. The Megadrive version could have been better. The toga is ridiculous. The background graphics are worse than in any other versions. Look at that sky! Grey srtipes instead of nice graphics or nice color range. Everything is nice and good, except the toga and the background. These are enough for me to say it's the worst version from these four.
