Candice and David met in medical school at McMaster University. Despite being almost complete opposites, their shared love for ramen, travel, politics, and photography brought them closer together and they became the best of friends. So how did they make that leap into romance?
It was like a scene out of a K-Drama.
On Nuit Blanche 2013, they were riding a packed streetcar when Candice fainted and fell flat on her face. David yelled at the bus driver to stop, picked Candice up in his arms (with the help of a random stranger) and carried her outside. It was drizzling as they sat on the curb and David took out his umbrella, reached for Candice’s hand and offered to buy her apple juice. They knew in that moment that this was something special.
Since then, they have been inseparable for the past 8 years, despite spending 6 of those years apart in different cities (London/Boston and Toronto) for their respective residency programs (and not seeing each other for an entire year due to COVID-19). Their many adventures together cumulated in Sedona, Arizona, where David proposed on top of the famous Cathedral Rock at sunrise after a 1-hour gruelling hike through a lightning storm. Now a new chapter in their lives is about to start and many more adventures are to come!
