Some good references there, started with the best ofcourse hehe. Biased here. I really hope to do a similar scratch built project too eventually, I think for me some benchmarks or references would be a chevron b16 or b19. Simple an beautiful classic sports racers that are modestly powered. I love the way many of the 70s sportscar racers have their mehanics esposed at the rear, 917, 512 etc. And hey your study looks pretty good for a jump off point :)
All great suggestions. Can Am (60s/70s) produced so many raw high performance sportscars. It is amazing how much cars increased their performance throughout those years.
I probably need to stay in my lane. I can probably make something that resembles a british sportscar, but getting to the level of good Italian styling is likely beyond me. Have really enjoyed seeing some of the latest alfa based restomods though. Some great cars in the alfa lineup, my absolute favourite is the 33 Stradale. I had a picture of that up in my office when I was doing my PhD.
@ 33 stradale is absolutely gorgeous. And I agree, some late restomods such as Totem for the Alfa GT Sprint and Kimera for the Lancia’s are absolutely stunning. But don’t underestimate your design skills! I won’t be surprised if you pulled a great Italian style design, or some influences of it. Cheers
So many nice Alfas from the 50s/60s. Probably a bit like the Alfa Fomeo 1900 Sports Spider. Specs-wise comes fairly close to what is intended for this project. So many of these cars had the power / weight but were probably geared for higher top speeds so had unflattering 0-100 times.

For styling, I nominate the original Fiat 124 Spider.
Good choice. Absolute cracker of a car!
Kevin this series is extremely good. But non even one Alfa Romeo benchmark? (Alfa 4c… ehm ehm) 😬

You have ended up with something pretty close to the Aston Martin DBR1 there
I'll take that as a compliment, the DBR1 is a great car. Definitely some changes that have moved it away from that original study though.
The front looks like a bit similar to an Alfa Romeo Spider
