This is the greatest thing about our airgun passion. We can enjoy replicas of historical guns and not break the bank doing so. Also, we get to enjoy them in the comforts of our homes, backyards, etc. Better yet, no ear plugs required! Wonderful video. Andy!
Umarex include an additional instruction on a slip of paper specifically warning users not to operate the trigger unless the magazine is installed. My guess is that the valve striker can break when it has nothing to arrest its travel when struck by the internal hammer so something to avoid doing. Like you, I really like this P08 Luger but I have had reliability issues; I had to return the first 3 of them! I've done several things to my current Luger as preventative measures which have also made it work better anyway. As a minimum, check to make sure screws haven't worked loose. I highly recommend removing the barrel section (part Z03) from the slider (Z05) by removing two small grub screws (E02) and then cleaning off paint and using Araldite to glue the barrel solidly in place (put the grub screws back in anyway). This stops barrel wobble, makes for a smoother action and prevents wear, damage and jamming that occurs when the grub screws work loose. It's worth it as this really is a nice replica of the Luger.
Not bad of a price, in the UK at least, and even it being the blowback version. I had the cheap NBB stickmagazine version at some point, but sold it due not really ever being into historic replica pistols myself. Quite nice of a replica this blowback version, and nice to finally see it getting it's AAR review. 😊
Ive had one of these for 3 years in 6mm and they run great. Definitely one of the loudest airguns ive shot and ive shot over 2 dozen of them, not had kick too
I bought a Umarex Luger some years ago , great replica piece though does not have the toggle mechanism for some reason . I aim (sorry) to acquire a PPK from the same manufacturer .
Bought one years ago when it first came out. Amazing replica and quality. It field strips ! (but watch You tube as there is a tiny spring and pin you do not ant to lose). Many fake FAC versions around to catch collectors. Lots of people seek wooden grips but this model is a replica with black grips of the FAC "Black Widow" version.
I have the Umarex version and also a 1915 DWM in 9mm. which I do shoot occasionally. I think the Umarex is slightly lighter and the grip is slightly thicker, presumably to accommodate the CO2. You didn't show that the Umarex strips just like the real one. Its also more fun as i don't have to drive to the range to shoot it. Same thing for the Legends cowboy rifle, which is a replica of the Winchester 94. I don't have a real 94 but I do have a Winchester 92 in .357 and they are very similar. My Winchester is a modern replica made in Japan for Winchester, so sadly not a real oldie like the Luger.
Great review of a great pistol. Mine like H&N Excite copper coated lead balls and is fairly accurate out to 6m. They are gas hogs, but worth it for the fun factor!
I've owned one for some years now. The cheap plastic grips were awful, and let the pistol down. I fitted genuine Luger wood grips, which took hours with a Dremel to hollow out to clear the CO2 and mechanism. Great replica, but I don't fire it much these days as the recoil stops are made of soft metal and are starting to flatten and wear. You never showed how easy the pistol is to field strip.
Love the P08.Mine looks totally authentic. Paint stripped. Cold blued. Wood grips. Took me months. Everyone wants to shoot it. Shim the outer barrel with some fine plastic. Retighten the tiny grub screws. With some patience it will shoot straight. Remington M1911 which I've turned into a Colt National Match. So satisfying. Keep it up Andy!
Oh my god Andy, what a beautiful piece of history I wish only a little bit more powerful. The bloopers at the end are awesome, keep doing it please. Regards
I remember shooting another brand of that gun back in the 1970 same blow back that will drive your eyes nuts till you get use to it. many a tin can fell victim to our shooting it.
Also own one. It is in fact a nice and crisp replica, but I really do miss wood grips on it. Those thin and flimsy plastic parts are not very satisfying. The original part only fit after a lot of work, but give this Luger 08 an extra touch of authenticity. The sound and blowback-kick are quite comparable to a .22 pistol in my opinion. Anyway, thanks for your review, Andy.
I shot a modern replica in 9mm at a range in the US. One of the most accurate pistols I’ve ever handled (and I’ve shot a lot). Quirky but so natural and comfortable to use.
Good morning one and all . I bought one of these not so long back . But after about three co2 capsule some thing snapped in side the ammunition slide a peice of round metal like a steel shot but a little bigger. It still fires but doesn't lock on the last shot .
a word of caution ,these are prone to going fully auto due to under engineered components in the trigger "mech" while initially its a shock and fun this obviously spoils a great replica ;ive heard of some going after little use ..there are some threads on you tube covering this problem.i have since had this fixed by the impoter and works fine... the action will use more gas ,around 30% more so two mags is about it; having said that its a great pistol.
Mine tends to go full auto after 30-35 shots per co2 capsule - essentially emptying the mag in a second, I assume its the last of the gas escaping, so I do three mags of ten bbs for the fun of reloading. It's quirky and heavy on gas usage, but it's a great gun.
Oh! I have this one- its very fun to shoot, however just like the real one- it jams often, and I found the durability of the magazine to be lacking- as the one that came with it has already lost its feeding catch. Taking it apart and unjamming it is risky as well due to many small parts which are easily lost- for example a spring barely a mm or few large.
I have one and looking to have wood grips and DWM and proof marks engraved on it ,btw these are fully strippable but watcha video how to do it ,can be a bit tricky to re-assemble
I think it was used by yhe portuguese army too... and the GNR, the portuguese gendarmerie type of force up until the early 70's, if not mistaken being replaced by the p38....a friend was issue a p38 whe she went to Afghanistan
I love the look of these replicas, but have unfortunately had two different models break in the past in under 2000 pellets - despite being very well maintained and gently treated.
@@Rick-gb5jj For plinking with replicas, I'd recommend the airsoft versions really. Much greater selection, generally better longevity, and you can order most spare parts quite easily from Taiwan.
Many years ago, Lone Star made a cap firing replica, which was the correct size to the real pistol. Rumours at the time said that a bank had been robbed using one!! 😳
I had one back in the day, I vividly remember buying it with some birthday money, probably bought it sometime around 1975. Got lost over the years, so I picked one up from Ebay some years ago, brought back so many memories. Although I think it's not quite full size, close, but not quite. The C96 cap gun is tiny compared to the real one. (I have that too) I need a P38 to complete the collection.
I also own this fantastic replica and, as you mentioned, it is a bit unusual but a lot of fun to shoot! I love the fact that it's very very true to the original. Thanks for an enjoyable review. BTW, what was that alarm sounding in the bloopers section at the end?
I have a Umarex VP9 H&K it looks and feels good but the quality inside is appalling. I’m afraid to shoot it because it looks and feels like it’s going to break.
Excellent review as always. Is there any reason that you do not test with copper coated lead bb's? They are for more consistently made than the frangibles, which I find jam in some of my pistols, ie CZ Shadow 2 & 1911.
Greetings from Buenos Aires. A nice piece of (weapons) history, indeed. UMAREX is well known for its almost perfect replicas. My opinion: these platforms are for collection purposes rather than shooting. Anyway, nice video ... !
@@Ballinalower Confirm. As for the Gletcher version, its disassembly lever turns and partly frees the upper to move forward, but it still does not come out from the lower. Maybe one would have to tap out pins or something, haven't found any instructions. In my book a stupid construction.
As far as I know there is not. A pellet version would require some sort of a revolver or a belt magazine and it would be difficult to fit into the slim Luger frame.
But the nice thing is that the mag includes everything that might go wrong with a CO2 powered BB gun - all the seals and the valve! Way easier to replace a mag than hunting down individual components and having to disassemble the whole gun.

You were in the 9 ring, just nicking the red bull at [11:30] on the first round. Then the breeze came up I guess, and you pulled right. I bought the other version of the Umarex Luger, the one without articulating toggle. It shoots at a claimed 400 FPS. I intend on shooting packrats, so I wanted more lethality. I used to own a pair of Stoeger Lugers in .22LR. They were American made and not an exact P.08 copy. They were fun to plink with. One had a 4'' barrel and another -- a gift from a friend, who ''broke'' his -- had a 5'' barrel.
