    AMAZING!!
    It's almost a shame that we no longer get to witness the live acting in temples.
    I especially appreciated when Dave would say "stage directions"
    I was "watching " this in my head as you both spoke. Thank you!!

    This is spectacular stuff. Thank you guys for reposting, I am reading Plain and Precious Things (albeit slowly, alongside a very intense dive into the scriptures as I prepare for my mission) and this just deepens it all for me.
    I was especially struck by the reframing of the Bread -> Stone, Fish -> Serpent idea- it is almost as if Christ was saying, “who here is wise enough to give as God would, who is asked for Bread and gives the greatest Bread, and is asked for Fish (perhaps water also?) and gives His only Begotten.” Many many thoughts on that. This illuminated me!
    Dave, if you’re ever in Long Beach CA, please let me buy you lunch!

    Great Point at the end it was mentioned that in Alma 12 if your wicked you forget the mysteries of God. Read Alma 12 : 9 and there you go. This verse highlights the idea that the mysteries of God are given according to one's diligence and obedience. Those who are heedless, or wicked, therefore, forget or are not given further light and knowledge due to their lack of diligence in following the Lord's commandments.

      I’m doing a ton of work on this now- rewriting a chapter in my dissertation, mainly with the idea in early Christianity as the cross/tree/life/shield of the king/staff of power…. But the key is intriguing… if u have stuff, send it over.

      @@talkingscripture the cross can be seen as a key in the sense that it unlocks the door to salvation through Jesus Christ's Atonement. It's the key to overcoming death and sin.

      @tinysafari1851 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@denisebagley2342 The "extra oil" carried by the wise virgins represents their preparedness and commitment that goes beyond the minimum required. It indicates a reserve of spiritual strength, faith, and dedication that ensures they are ready to meet the Savior, no matter when He comes. The wise virgins are those who have taken the time to acquire personal spiritual experiences, deepening their testimonies and conversion, which can't be quickly given or borrowed, as the foolish virgins discovered. What are your thoughts about this? I would be very interested to hear them.

  • @eveelane2806

    Dave, the Book of Mormon was translated for ALL PEOPLE to come to KNOW God and Jesus Christ better.
    Perhaps enlightened people will understand more. However, it is the greatest conversion tool that exists. As Joseph Smith said “A man will get closer to God by reading the Book of Mormon than by reading any other book “.
    To say it was written to be read by enlightened people may drive others away from reading it.
    Our WORDS MATTER and thank you for your knowledge and enthusiasm. 👏🤗❤️🙏🌈💯

    I think saying that God "is a man," the "he's human" is misleading. JS said that he was once as we are now, and is an exalted man (to that effect). I take this to mean that God and man are of the same lineage (what this entails is still a mystery), not that God is a man (it's like saying God is like man rather than man is like God - they are not the same thing).

    • @talkingscripture
      @talkingscripture  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Man of Holiness is a pretty cool title used in Moses I believe… Also he is called “Father” by Jesus more than any other title. I (Mike) believe he’s gendered, embodied, and glorified. A Man of Holiness. Just what I gather from the revelations of the restoration. I’m certainly not attempting to mislead in being direct that God is an exalted man.

  • @lauriefrost8822

    Enlightening in many ways. But I disagree with Dave Butler’s frequent references to the Tree as a “divine feminine.” The ppl fell down at the tree and worshipped. Elder Bednar said the tree could symbolize Jesus Christ. Who else suffered and atoned for us? It seems to diminish our Savior to assume such worshipful symbolism would apply to the Tree as something or someone other than to Him, notwithstanding the nuggets of truth found in pagan mythology.
    It is through His “merits” that we are saved, on conditions of repentance - a good topic for a lawyerly discussion!
