No doubt. I thought seriously of using gasket material and being done. Wanted to figure it out if I later make a tool holder. Maybe mistakes build up experience faster? Thank you
Hi Donny! It's a SouthBend SB1001, purchased from Grizzly. It's long since been discontinued. The CNC conversion kit is from BDTools. Billy, a retired tool and die machinist, continues to make kits for other lathes. I bought his personal SB1001 kit, so I have a few extras.
I previously had a Grizzly G4016, also discontinued, which has been by favorite lathe. Accurate work can be done on the SB1001, but it's just a little too small. The G4016 is larger and far sturdier for a similar expense. I just only had the space for the SB1001. I'm thinking of these differences while making a spindle encoder for the SB1001.
Hey Kent! Nice to see a video up.....hope you're doing well
Thank you Aaron, I appreciate that a lot
I would just put an o ring between the plug and spindle nose.
Glancing at the clock, I certainly considered it :)
An o-ring between collet and spindle would have been another solution to the gap.

What kind of lathe are you using?

looks like wood dust on the spindle
Good eyes, yes indeed! Last project was a wooden truck toy for a young man, who requested it be assembled without nails :)
@@kentvandervelden i would of like to seen that project!
That's nice to know. My son is interested in timber frame construction and dump trunks, so he wanted the two combined :)
