Ernie telling the story of the lowest most despicable point in his career (probably in his entire life) with the utmost humility and contrition takes my respect for him on a whole different pantheon of existence. Nobody with his credentials can be open about stuff like that. You the GOAT, Ernie.

Ernie Sr. is and always will be a LEGEND in Braves broadcasting! What is even more special is that his son completely lived up to his level.
I honestly haven't watched much NBA since Kobe, however, the 2020 Heat Finals run brought me back (due to the show). Such a warm & comforting feeling to still find Ernie Jr. in his proper place and such a nostalgic voice in my NBA 90s & 2000s... In 41 years I have grown up on Johnsons & Careys broadcasting my sports childhood, into adulthood. Forever blessed! 😊

He is a true legend. There is no one like him and there will never be another Ernie. When he won the Emmy and gave it to Stuart Scott's daughters showed his true class.
What an amazing interview! Ernie is a special dude! As a father of a nonverbal autistic 8yr old daughter, even though my daughter is a daddy’s girl and I have yet to hear her say “Daddy” or “I love you daddy”, I am grateful for my daughter’s health and ABILITIES. I’ve also learned that by taking this approach and having the mindset of “the favor God has bestowed upon me as I believe he wouldn’t bless me with my beautiful daughter (and her ‘inabilities’) if it wasn’t something I can handle”… this mindset helps on those tough days where you see other “normal” 8yr olds and tend to get sad wondering IF my daughter will also become highly functional and more socially conscious/aware of other kids. Having raised my first born (almost 21 now) with the traditional parenting approach… looking back was a breeze compared to now! The Autism is no problem with me, it’s the inability to speak that’s the toughest hurdle as my daughter cannot even tell me if her stomach hurts, If she has a headache or sick, instead all she can do is cry 😭 as infants do when they don’t know any other way to express themselves. God is Good!
As a father to a 9-year old semi-verbal autistic son, I concur with everything you said. But you know, I've always wanted a baby in the family and that's what he is. No matter how big or old he gets, he'll always be my baby boy with the sweetest soul you'll ever meet.

I met Earnie at a work thing 5-6 years ago. We were kind of stuck in a hallway so he, his wife and I ended up small talking for 15-20 minutes. He's the exact dude you think he is. One of the nicest people I've ever run across.

Such an amazing interview! Two of the best! I remember reading Dan's articles in the Herald growing up in Miami being intrigued, learning something new all the time. And being a man of faith now, EJ's testimony and humility has moved me in a way that I greatly appreciate.

I've recently fallen on some hard times and have been having troubles with my family. This interview is so uplifting and wonderful, you both are doing Gods work. Whether it be religiously or structurally.
The new iteration of South Beach sessions has really been great at showing a new side of Dan as well as the many guests. Even the cast of usual suspects of the show universe it's still great to learn a much more intimate and private side of everyone.
Simply put, this was a beautiful listen. Ernie Johnson gave such amazing insight into his career and life. Just wonderful to hear his stories.

Grew up in Atlanta in the early 80's. Yeah, the Braves were bad, but they were good in 1982. The old joke was TBS stood for the Braves suck. Love Ernie and his dad. I'm nearly 50 and very thankful for the both of them. Along with Skip Caray, the voices of my youth.
