    I suppose at the tme just after WW2 farm tractors were pretty small. The Farmall M was about 40 hp and the Ford 2N / 8N was about 23. Chain saws were still very new and heavy. Hydraulic backhoes were still small. The Jeep could probably compete and still be roadworthy, filling a niche. In addition there were millions of men from WW2 that were very familiar with them.

    • @mcearl8073
      @mcearl8073 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      sarge27271 Jeep wouldn’t sell nearly as many if they weren’t like they are now and the US government would never allow new ones to be like these old ones for on road use. I know people love to say “they don’t make them like that anymore” but new Jeeps are far more capable than ever off road and they can be used as an every day vehicle too without much sacrifice. I don’t think these farm Jeeps were all that common and I’m sure a tractor is probably more effective at most of this stuff. They are cool though and I do like old Jeeps for their simplicity. You can buy a brand new “Jeep” though just like these old ones if you want one, they are not street legal though in the US, maybe it’s possible to somehow get one registered for the road, I’m not sure on that. I thought the price seemed a bit steep too but everything is expensive these days. These side by sides are as much as a car and I think that’s essentially what the new “Jeeps” are being sold as.

    • @mcearl8073
      @mcearl8073 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      fernarias I don’t disagree with that really but in this case it’s kind of hard to even argue why. Vehicles today are so much safer than the ones made back then when these Jeeps were made and considering they have to share the roads with the rest of us it’s not a terrible thing that the US has safety standards that need to be met.
      That said, I do think our laws could be changed in a way that’s a bit of a compromise but it’s unlikely to happen. I also think that since our cars are infinitely safer and more capable today I shouldn’t have to follow speed limits that were set in the days of drum brakes, no air bags, no crumple zones, no ABS or stability control etc.
      If you want one just for off road use you can buy one of the Indian ones which is basically a brand new old Jeep, or any of the side by sides available today.

      Deepblu dude When I see the glossy new jeeps I think of a unimog axle off road truck, in flat military paint. Jeep lost its soul the moment Chrysler bought it.

    Why dont car manufacturers make attachments like this for their work vehicles anymore? Itd b awesome to see new versions of these kinds of tools.
