    You are quickly becoming one of my favorite channels to watch. I love that you intertwine your research with your journaling and I love hearing you talk about it. I took a few gender studies and feminist theory classes in college so I am super interested in it.

      wow thank you so much, this seriously made my day 🥹 honestly, combining my research-related reflections into my daily planning routine has been SO helpful for me academically haha. I need to post an update about how its going! thanks again 🤍🤍🤍🤍

    Ooh I love how you incorporate your research and reading into your planner. I definitely intend to do this in my 2023 Cousin. Yours is GORGEOUS

      thank you SO much! it's been such a gratifying (and intellectually fruitful) practice for me! also lets me incorporate a bit of creativity within the otherwise exclusively theoretical, so it's been a nice mix :)

    Ahhh, FINALLY. I just recently made the jump from bullet journaling to the Hobonichi life, and most of the flip-through/PWM’s on social media are either undergrad students or people working full-time jobs and managing their kids’ lives. I am currently also a PhD student (finalizing my dissertation proposal for defense this semester 🤩), and coming across your channel is like I hit the jackpot for inspiration and ideas for planning. I love your aesthetic, and I love the variety that you put into your dailies. I don’t know why I never thought to include interesting and note-worthy stuff from my research. So thanks for that idea! I’m also excited to learn that our research is semi-related (like 2nd or 3rd cousins 😂). I have read through lots of Judith Butler, and I teach about her quite inaccessible use of academic jargon, and of course gender performativity. I will be watching all your videos for the rest of the day… 😂

      wowww thank you so much! and congrats on being so close to your proposal defence - thats amazing & so exciting! what areas of research does your dissertation address? and hahaha thats so true - but i adore judith butler in spite of it all 😌

      @@theoryof.lauren I’m looking into what course materials college professors are utilizing in their LGBT/Queer Studies courses. Specifically, I’m looking into whether or not they are inclusive of BIPOC voices and experiences. And my research is arguing that when we (professors) only focus on “scholarly” peer-reviewed works like books and journal articles, we are leaving out a LOT of marginalized voices that simply don’t have access to that level of publication for a variety of reasons. So we should be valuing “non-scholarly” media just as much as the high-level media. Meaning, media like TH-cam, blogs/vlogs, social media, zines, indie films, art pieces/collections, TedTalks, TikToks and Reels, etc., should be included in a courses required reading/watching list. And not just because we are missing BIPOC representation in academic journals and textbooks, but also because adult learning theory tells us that college-aged and adult learners retain information that is relevant to them, and since all college students in this day and age are digital natives, what could be more relevant than all of the information produced in user-generated online spaces? Especially because so much of the works rooted in queer theory are extremely white-washed and linguistically inaccessible to the general population. It’s….a lot, lol. And nobody else is doing research specifically like this, so it’s been quite a struggle writing a lit review. 🫠

    Yay, you did great! Just remember that your feelings are neither right or wrong, they just are...and that's ok.
    I love the autumnal vibes, I'm such a 2nd half year kind of person myself! 💕
    ETA: Food for thought for you on the performance/care thing. My husband is my "carer" in legal terms, but he performs his care for me (wheelchair user) out of love, so he doesn't consider himself to be my carer. 😊

    ahhh I love when you talk about your research!!!!!!!!! i literally love feminist and political theory (my first ever deep dive into it was Donna haraway) Your comment on the experience of girlhood really peaked my interest. Have you published any papers/do you have any to recommend?

    • @theoryof.lauren
      @theoryof.lauren  ปีที่แล้ว

      thank you soooo much for saying that! I am always unsure if I should talk about it because i know it can be kind of cerebral and not everyone's cup of tea at all haha - but it's a huge part of my life 🥲 I have a few projects forth coming but nothing published yet! i really do recommend Girlhood by Melissa Febos though (it's an easier read for sure). Actually in working on my recent project on girlhood, I was really struck by how little (non-clinical) research there is currently on experiences of girlhood! I found "Searching for Safe Space: The Absent Presence of Childhood Sexual Abuse in Human Geography" by Willis, Canavan, and Prior was very interesting as well as "Geographies of Girlhood: Identities In-between" (2005) by Bettis and Adams - tho both of those I am pretty sure are situated within conversations of CSA so not sure how helpful that is for you! Let me know!!
