  • 9-BALL - In 1994, JOHNNY “The Scorpion” ARCHER (25) was up against Mexico’s RAFAEL MARTINEZ at the Sands Regency Open in Reno, Nevada. Archer won this event in 1992 and 1993. He also was the runner-up at the 1992 U.S. Open 9-Ball Championships. Martinez was making a name for himself by just defeating Nick Varner and having some high finishes in the 1992 and 1993 U.S. Open 9-Ball events.
    Grady Mathews and Jerry McWorter shared the commentary.

    I was wondering why I was seeing all these great Accu-Stats matches showing up in my suggested videos list. Now I have some idea why. It used to be impossible find these videos unless you purchased through Accu-Stats. I was unaware Pat Flemming had sold the business. Luckily, the great company AZ Billiards made the purchase. Now they are sharing portions of Pat's amazing library which he has amassed over many years.
    I can't thank enough the new owner, Mike Howerton, for bringing these great billiard events to TH-cam. I can only hope these are not teasers and look forward to watching countless hours of billiard's greatest players, both past and present. Big thanks Mike.

    I love the break shot of the 90's. Where the players threw the stick at the cue ball like a javelin! So explosive and when hit accurately, the cue ball just dies in the middle of the table!!!! Nowadays it's a weak soft break and or cut break.

  • @capoman1
    @capoman1 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

    2:57 Rafael miscues, then goes to shape his tip... I watched a 2009 match where Rafael miscues multiple times against Strickland. Commenter said Rafael is known to have a worn down tip. Seems this was a theme of his for over 20 years!

  • @jeffren70
    @jeffren70 ปีที่แล้ว

    If you pound on the ball where you want it, you're just making it worse. You need to push the ball slightly past where you want it and then tap it in. This puts a small divot in the cloth and the ball is sitting on the uphill side of it when in the correct position, so it is pushing against the ball next to it. So many people get this wrong.

    His confidence and short way of time in each shoot is incredible.
    Amazing Player! I ❤ Pool 🎱

    These are the arenas/ pool cloth color/ atmosphere/ characters of players/ type of commentating...that we lack nowadays!! listen to the stories from the commentators what a epic match to watch.
    Now a days we got pink five ball, we got shitty gray or blue cloth color, we got commentators who know nothing about pool and just want to tell yell just like the NFL commentators which is ridiculous.........it went downhill from the 90s and you guys wonder why pool is not popular....hell now a days a kids game telephone app tournament get more views than pool its pathetic.
    FUN FACT: Watch game number 2 as rafael picks up the cueball after making the 9ball before it stops from traveling. If he done that now a days it'll be a foul, WHICH IS ALSO STUPID. The guy already won lets play in the atmosphere of gambling I mean why not :) -- I remember a poor girl picked the cueball as it was traveling in the e middle of table which was 100% not a scratch then the referee called a foul, that's just dumb. Keep ruining pool Matchroom, you're doing it the way it should be done to bring the whole pool world to the ground.

    • @AccuStats
      @AccuStats  ปีที่แล้ว

      The "FUN FACT" rule you mentioned is SOOO ridiculous. The International 9-Ball Open discarded that rule. Imagine that happening in the final match, hill-hill, the crowd erupts, the winner lays his cue on the table and the cue ball almost stopped in the middle of the table strikes the cue stick and the opponent claims a foul. Eventually, that would happen. Not on my watch!

      I’m guessing they had an improperly installed spot. The pool hall I play at just put one on their 9’ Diamond and it sucks racking properly!

  • @capoman1
    @capoman1 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

    NO AMOUNT of rolling the back balls will make the front ball tight... If the front ball rolls out over a divot, you have to move the rack position a hair till that front ball stays still when you lift the rack.
