One more fact about Dhirubhai - my dad shared with me his meetings with him. My dad and his friends used to frequently go for coffees at Oberio...where Dhirubhai also would come and join them....converse with them and used to chill around.

Dhirubhai Ambani was no saint. He believed every Indian had a price and could be bought. He bought his way through every step in business, be it politicians or powerful people in the corridors of power. It was said that during his heydays he had 20 to 40 MPs on his payroll!
What else was he supposed to do in the License Raj of a failed socialist state that India was before 1993? It was impossible to start and run a successful business in India due to idiotic anti-business socialist policies of 70s and 80s.
