So many all-female or female-fronted Japanese rock\metal bands (Band-Maid, LoveBites, Hanabie, etc) owe a great debt of thanks to these 3 little girls who shattered the Japanese music industry's notorious wall of isolationism to garner international attention and fame. Babymetal literally carved out a path for all others to follow. Highly recommend reacting to "Road of Resistance Live in Japan". Kitsune Da O! 🤘🦊🤘
Welcome to the Foxhole and BabyMetal's journey 🦊🤘🔥 Cool reaction to enjoy the original trio and the new formation with two of the original trio and a new member. Fans were enjoying and having so much fun watching this live every night at Sabaton's Europe Tour and recently at Asian/Australian Tour, they also got another Europe headline tour in November, along with the Babyklok US Tour, you don't wanna miss the chance to see them live and performing this song like they did recently in all these concerts, we always love the shanenigans between the girls in the middle section after the breakdown. BabyMetal is a Japanese metal dance unit created in 2010 under another Jpop/Jrock group called Sakura Gakuin, they had 11 and 12 years old when started this and become independent after 2013, they created their own genre called kawaii-metal mixing Jpop with metal sound and different subgenres along with many more rhythms. Their name is a reference to a new genre and not related to their ages or "baby" faces, is a pun intended play words with "heavy-metal" which sounds similar to "baby-metal". They are: *SuMetal* lead vocalist, now 25. *MoaMetal* scream and dance, now 23. *YuiMetal* scream and dance, former member since 2018. *MomoMetal* scream and dance, she's 20 and is the new official member since April 1st recently, but she's been one of the backup dancers since 2019, that's why you can see her in the live performance at Budokan 2021 when she still wasn't an official member. The first time they reached Budokan was in 2014 and of course you can find this song when YuiMetal was still there. None of them are related. After 2018 you'll see backup dancers performing along with them but none of them are official members, they don't sing, only dance, but that status change recently like i said. This was released in 2013 when having around 13/14 and 15 yo, so is one of their early hits and is full of japanese elements, like the "shamizen", a japanese traditional instrument, and is a party festival song (matsuri). "Sore" "seiya" and "soya" are typical shouts among Japanese festival and it works like a "c'mon!" or "let's go" for them. During the breakdown you can hear another typical japanese folk song called "Sakura Sakura" and they're doing a traditional Japanese dance. In summary, song is about female empowerment and if you follow the lyrics you'll see about it, "Megitsune" means female fox (vixen) and they talk about women acting with a smile in their face while crying inside, just to fit in society or what is expected from them, when they're kind to you they're not trying to make falling in love with them, they're just being their own way, and men tend to confuse and think they're cheating or deceiving like the mythological fox. "Megitsune" used to be a peyorative term in Japanese culture, pretty much just like around the world, but BM is using this as a way to empower women despite the meaning itself. When SuMetal is pulling out the "tanto" she's saying "maidens shouldn't be underestimated", that refers to a japanese mob film about some boss mafia daughter before attacking someone. During live performance she throws a front kick and looks really cool doing it. Megitsune is a quintessential BM song and among top ranking songs by fans, SuMetal said she didn't mastered yet, that's why she used to sound check with this song before live concerts. The origin of the "fox sign" is really long to explained but here's a short summary: The Fox God (Kitsune Sama) is the Metal God who sent these girls (and Kami Band after to help them with the metal sound) to unify the world and set them free from Jpop slavery. The kitsune sign came out by accident around the time they created the group by the girls when trying to imitate the typical metal horn sign they noticed it was similar when doing fox shadow shape, they implemented this as part of the lore, imagery, theme and live concerts, the lore is huge so take your time and keep digging and riding the Foxhole 🦊🤘 Btw they praised for real and made a ritual to the Fox God for this song to be a hit and successful, and thanks to the Fox God this is one of their major hits and favorite BM fan songs. -NotACult- 👀 This is a song with the arrangements by YuppeMetal, he took inspiration from "Memphis May Fire - The Sinner" for the drum section, another song that i recommend you for your own time if you want. Next suggestion: - Karate live at Download Festival 2016. See you next time. 🦊🤘🔥
Cool video, I loved that you were joining in with the audience participation. That's the very reason they have the two backup vocalists/dancers - their role is "scream and dance" (not metal screaming though) which essentially means "cheerleaders" to engage the crowd. The Babymetal fandom is called The One because together we are all One, we are all Babymetal, we are all part of the performance. So audience participation is considered a big part of Babymetal and you're a good example of that - you can't help but be engaged by it even sitting at home haha.
I subbed. Old (59) metal bassist/guitarist/singer writer myself, and I can boldly say that I am very discerning about metal and music in general and this has been my favorite band for over 5 years now. Their work (all of it) is freaking sublime. Not even gonna bs you, they have over 60 songs now that are all must watch/listen. BABYMETAL even started me down the "reaction" path as I realized that other people being as surprised as I am by them is very satisfying to witness. The level of production in every aspect of what they do is mind-blowing, truly. Their band has a separate identity, they are call The "Kami" Band or simply the "gods" band and their are multiple players that occasionally rotate, with both Japanese and "western" versions depending on where they are touring. They are some of the greatest players in the world. I would suggest BABYMETAL'S RONDO OF NIGHTMARE with the Mischiefs of Gods Intro for your next reaction, It is a Su-metal solo with an intro that brings the Japanese Kamis to center stage, where virtuosity ensues! Kitsune dao!
Great reaction and double feature of both mv and live . Megitsune live when not under covid restrictions is even better when the audience can respond with even more enthusiasm ! 🤣😁🤘🏼🦊🤘🏼
Great first reaction and welcome to the BABYMETAL Foxhole.🦊Well done on doing the official video and a live performance, this video is one of their better ones (they're all good, but if you do the same again with other songs it will become more obvious how much better they are when they play live). BABYMETAL became the youngest female band to headline the Budokan in March 2014. Lead singer Su-metal was 16, Yuimetal and Moametal were both 14. They were releasing their first album and they sold it out 2 nights running. This video was a compilation from a couple of their shows in 2021 when they returned to the Budokan to play 10 more concerts as part of their 10th anniversary celebration. BABYMETAL are pretty much unique in that they invented their own genre and their own way of doing things. You won't be able to categorise them as just one thing or to put them in any one box like you can with most other bands. You will not be able to predict them, just expect the unexpected. They don't copy anybody or follow the same format as nearly every other band (for a start they have brought choreographed dance to metal). They started in 2010 without a backing band, they sang and danced to pre-recorded instrumentals on a backing track. Now they are supported in live shows by the Kami Band - some of Japan's very best session musicians, each one of them a world class instrumentalist. There are many people who have played in the Kami band, but they only have 2 guitarists, 1 bass player and 1 drummer for each concert (there was an exception to that rule for a special occasion in 2020, but this comment will be too long already without explaining that). The Kami Band were phased in gradually after October 2012 playing a couple of festivals and the encores in a few shows. They became the full time support for all live shows from the 2014 Budokan shows and have been with BABYMETAL ever since - but only for live shows, they do not record the studio versions. The Kami Band of the West - American musicians have supported BABYMETAL in the more extended foreign tours since 2019. They have about 60 songs now, each one different to the last, they have songs in virtually every metal genre but will also mix and blend so many other styles and genres with the metal. Some songs are good hard metal, some lean towards their pop roots and they do everything in between. I'm sure you will get suggestions for more reactions. To get a better idea of the Kami Band I would suggest 'Rondo of Nightmare' (a Su-metal solo - Yui and Moa were getting a break back stage while she performed this song) with the 'Mischiefs of the Metal Gods' instrumental intro from the Kami Band live at Budokan Black night in 2014. For something more representative with all 3 girls and their choreo with a great crowd try the Legend of 1997 (Su-metal's 16th birthday celebration in December 2013) live 'Headbanger' performance, you can find a high quality video for that posted by abr metal.
I would recommend Yava, Rondo of Nightmare (both with Kami-band intro) Or Akatsuki and Amore which influence guitar solos in middle, to see more of the band
Of all the musical artists to have come out of Japan they are without a doubt the biggest and most popular worldwide . It's crazy to think that they've been around for 13 yrs and they are still only in their mid 20's. They've recently embarked on a world tour (which they're on a break from until they come to the States at the end of August) and they're preparing to enter a new phase of their musical career which should be fascinating to watch for all the fans, old and new.
If you think there was something out in the live video, i'ts because even thought the audio was from 1 single show, the video was a compilation from 2 different shows (althought really similar) to avoid copyright issues. The crowd also wasn't allowed to sing or scream due to pandemic regulations, so all the cheering you heard was on a backing track took from previous shows BM had, to keep the atmosphere the same! Since you want to see the band more, I will second other recommendations of "Rondo of Nightmare" with mischief of the metal god intro, live at Budokan 2014!
There is lots of (different) things to see when it comes to Babymetal. In this reaction you saw them at different ages. On the movie they were really young, like 14 and 12 if I do not remember incorrectly. In the live version they were 20+, Su maybe even 25. Now, if you want to see the musicians, there are some live performances where they show off before the actual song. There are also som songs where you can see the musicians during the performance. They are almost always the Kami band BTW. There are some changes, but almost always it is the Kami band. They consist of one drummer, one basist and two guitarists. All are super top notch. They had to replace a guitarist because he died when falling off a star gazing platform. Very sad. He was a very special person, much loved. And he had unearthly skills on the guitar. "Yava", "Rondo of nightmares" and "Catch me if you can" have band member show offs before some versions. But, as I said - you can see the band members in other songs. One that I come to think of is "Road to resistance".
The band gets a LOT of exposure tbh - at least in their earlier stuff - and everything tends to be VERY different for each track - but generally go live with them if at all possible. Good reaction!
I'll be seeing this live in September when they hit St. Louis! Officially, Babymetal is just the three girls, who are backed by a backing band called the kami band. From 2010 to 2018, the classic lineup was Su-metal (Suzuka Nakamoto, lead vocals), Moametal (Moa Kikuchi, backing vocals and dance) and Yui-metal (Yui Mizuno, backing vocals and dance). Yui left in 2018 due to health concerns and was replaced by Momometal (Momoko Okazaki). The first video you saw was from 2013, when they were 15, 13 and 13 (Yui would turn 14 the day after the video released, and Moa would turn 14 two weeks later). The second one, from Bukokan, was from 2021, so everyone was in their early 20s, except Momoko who was 18. Momoko was not an official member of Babymetal at the time, but was part of a rotating trio of dancers called the Avengers who filled Yui's role. She was elevated to an official member earlier this year. To tell them apart, Su always wears a single ponytail; Moa always wears twin pigtails; and the Avengers always wore their hair drawn back but long and loose in the back. Now that she's an official member, Momoko now wears the pigtails like Moa. The kami band is made up of some of Japan's best session musicians, but the members were relatively consistent until 2018, when one of the guitarists died in a tragic fall. Shortly after that, following a tour with Sabaton and Galactic Empire (an American Star Wars themed metal band), they split the kami band into two touring companies, with the classic lineup still backing them in Japan and Asia, and periodically overseas, and a new Western kami band, which consisted of some of the members of Galactic Empire, backing them in North America and Europe. To see the musicians take center stage and rip some great solos, check out these live performances: Catch Me if You Can: th-cam.com/video/ugnyM69LN54/w-d-xo.html Rondo of Nightmare: th-cam.com/video/tmMocP99QkQ/w-d-xo.html
Great double feature, thanks and welcome to BABYMETAL. "Megitsune" is one of their most loved songs and the most played live (277 times and counting!). They are very diverse musically as they like to mix literally any music genre with metal and that includes several metal sub-genres. So, it's impossible getting bored. 😁 Their strong point are the live performances. They don't joke about live productions as you have already seen. Please do more BABYMETAL, you won't regret it! I second the suggestions for "Rondo of Nightmare" with the Kami Band intro ("Mischiefs of the Metal Gods"). Until next time! 🤘🦊
You won't find a metal/rock band more Japanese than the Wagakki Band. Try this one: Wagakki Band - 焔 (Homura) + 暁ノ糸 (Akatsuki no Ito) / 1st JAPAN Tour 2015 Hibiya Yagai Ongakudo
When Rob Halford hit that note in "Breaking the Law" when he sang with Babymetal at the 2016 APMA's...Su-metal went even Higher!! (had to show up grandpa a little bit) LoL!! Every thing you hear from Babymetal will be different..so have fun exploring. Of Corse, for a better look at the band it will be either "Rondo of Nightmare with the Mischiefs of Gods Intro" Live at Budokan back in 2014...or the "Catch Me If You Can" Compilation that is floating around.....but if you want to see something VERY Prog, it has to be "Tails Of The Destinies"...only performed Live once ever, during their show at the Tokyo Dome in 2016. Good Luck my Friend and as always.... Put your Kitsune UP!! Po!
Babymetal was my introduction to lovebites so I have alot to thank them for, but they are an awesome band and they have the Kami band behind them, who are a close match to lovebites. Headbanger from the Legend 1997(Su-metals year of birth) is a must or Road of Resistance, 🤘🎤🎹🥁🎸🐺
Great first reaction! 🤘🦊🤘Thank you for giving BABYMETAL a chance!!! BABYMETAL is a Japanese kawaii (cute) metal group that formed in 2010 when the 3 girls were 11-12 years old (yes, they were very young), and since then have performed with, toured with, or opened for Metallica, Korn, Sabaton, Bring Me The Horizon, Dragonforce, Guns N' Roses, Lady Gaga, Rob Halford of Judas Priest (there's a great youtube video of their performance with Rob at a metal award show), and Red Hot Chili Peppers (there is a youtube video of them performing Gimme Chocolate with RHCP, as well as with Korn, and DragonForce), to name a few of many. They have performed at large metal events/concerts in front of 65,000+ skeptical metalheads in Europe (Glastonbury, Download, Sonisphere, etc), US, and Asia. They are the first Japanese band to perform at Wembley arena in the UK. Also, 20+ awards have been given to them. They have 60+ songs and each one is different from the other, so I hope you give the other songs a try. By the way, they have some really great heavy songs too, and I hope you like guitar solos, as well as bass and drum solos, like I do, because they have them too. Also, they are currently on a world tour that includes many dates here in the USA, and released a new amazing album just a couple months ago! 🤘🦊🤘
BABYMETAL 101 Babymetal is a Japanese group founded in 2010 and produced by Kei “Koba” Kobayashi from the Amuse Inc. talent agency. Babymetal name comes from the birth of a new style of metal fusing j-pop with metal creating what they call Kawaii Metal (Cute-Metal). The group currently consists of Suzuka Nakamoto aka “Su-Metal” (25 years old) sometimes referred to as Vocal and Dance. Moa Kikuchi aka "Moametal", pronounced as Moa-Metal (23 years old) as part of Scream and Dance. Momoko Okazaki aka Momometal (20 years old) as part of Scream and Dance. They are supported by a rotating selection of talented male backing musicians known as the Kami Band (Kami is usually poorly translated as gods, but in truth it more closely means awe inspiring spirit, entity, or object) It is why they are dressed in white to look like ghosts or spirits, though Kami being used as God(s) is so common in translation the white outfits get lost.) Past Formations. Heavy Music Club Era (2010-2012) From 2010 to 2012 Babymetal consists of a three-member formation, Suzuka Nakamoto (Age 12), Moa Kikuchi (Age 10), and Yui Mizuno aka "Yuimetal" pronounced Yui-Metal. (Age 10). First starting out as the Heavy Music Club as a subunit within the Developmental Idol Group created by Amuse in 2010 known as Sakura Gakuin. Sakura Gakuin is a group that introduces girls between the ages of 10-15 to music, dance, modeling, and acting through Japanese Pop idol music and culture. Given a school theme, all three would be a part of Sakura Gakuin until their graduation from it in the same school year they would graduate from Japanese middle school or 15 years old. Suzuka graduated in March 2013, and Moa and Yui in March of 2015. Sakura Gakuin is a fantastic group with great kawaii jpop songs in their own right. During this time there was no lore, and the girl’s costumes were more punkish in nature, which they helped create. They also didn’t perform with live music, using a backing track or the “Skeleton band” people pretending to play music behind them. Music Video of this Era Doki Doki Morning (Debut Song) Iine (Pronounced EE-N A spelled i i n e) Headbangya Babymetal/ Metal Resistance Era (2012-2017) Starting in 2012 with the Legend I concert, Babymetal began its slow divorce from Sakura Gakuin, and was the first introduction of the Kami Band as well as the “Lore” that is still heavily involved in Babymetal but makes far less sense than it did during this time. The Lore is complex and involves a battle against other evil idol corporations, gaining powers, some time travel, running a resistance group, all at the direction of a mythical deity known as the fox god, against an all-power enemy known as Akiba. The first Legend show “I” was the Kami Bands introduction to the end, but it also had the Skeleton Band which is seen in the wildly popular Gimmie Chocolate Music Video. This was followed by Legend D, and then Legend Z, in which it was learned that Babymetal would continue as its own entity after Suzuka’s graduation from Sakura Gakuin in March of 2013. Slowly over 2013 the Skeleton Band would be phased out of all live shows, as Babymetal came into their own. Babymetal as it is with Su-Metal, Moametal, Yuimetal, the Kami Band, and a somewhat understandable lore is what consisted for the majority of its existence. Also established beyond the 3-member formation, they had 2 other set ups, one was what fans called Su-Solos, and it would just be Su on stage with the Kami band, performing a solo, and the other is known as Black Babymetal by the band themselves, which consisted of just Moa and Yui. Music Videos of this Era Gimmie Chocolate Megitsune Rondo of Nightmare - With mischief of the Gods Intro (Su Solo and a great expedition of the Kami Band) Road of Resistance Live in Japan (Co-written by Dragonforce) Iijime, Dame, Zettai Live at Sonisphere (Name means No More Bullying Forever) Karate The Dark Times, The Chosen 7 Era (2018) In December 2017, Yui would miss the Legend-S concert for health reasons, these health problems would prosiest into 2018 and greatly affect the 2018 touring season bring the “Chosen 7” formation, consisting of Suzuka Nakamoto, Moa Kikuchi, and 2 backing dancers Minako Maruyama, and Minami Tsukui. Changes they would not tell fans and all throughout 2018 communicate extraordinarily little causing lots of pain for all involved fan and performer. This era is noted by their strange armor like costumes, sometimes referred to as Elf Armor. To make the poor communication, and Yui’s absence wasn’t bad enough, one of the more regular Kami band members, Mikio Fujioka passed away after falling off a balcony in late December 2017 while star gazing. A beloved and incredibly talented musician lost, leaving behind his wife and only child. In September 2018 Yui formally resign from Babymetal, stating her unspecified health and wishing to move on. Babymetal themselves announced that the group will move on focusing on Suzuka and Moa. (Something many idiots within the fandom refuse or are too stupid to understand) In October Babymetal had a concert called Dark Night Carnival which added dancers, Shoko Akiyama, Saya Hirai, and Kotono, placing a total of seven girls on stage. This was also done without warning to fans and was an absolute mess. Babymetal would finish off the 2018 tour season returning to the 3-member formation with just Saya Hirai joining them in southeast Asia and Australia. Ending one of the most troubling times in Babymetal’s history. Music Videos of this Era (These MVs do not feature the members in them at all) Distortion Starlight (Don’t let overzealous fans fool you, this is OFFICIALLY not a tribute to anyone. A lot of fan speculation, end of story if they claim it is they are 100% lying to you.) Metal Galaxy Era (2019- Feb 2020) First introduced in 2019 during the Babymetal Arises concert in Yokohama, before the start, the “Avenger” support dancer concept was explained in the lore, and the concept thanks to communication and a maintaining of the 3-member formation brought Babymetal out of dark times brought about during 2018. Babymetal seemed to have returned to its roots with the Avengers, as 2 of the three (Kano and Momoko) come from Sakura Gakuin. The third Riho, went to the same performing arts school as Suzuka during the same time, Actors School Hiroshima aka ASH. Music Videos of this Era Pa Pa Ya Elevator Girl Shanti Shanti Da Da Dance (Avenger confusion) Which Avenger one sees can be confusing for those new to Babymetal. For the Music Videos, Pa Pa Ya, Elevator Girl, and Shanti Shanti Shanti, it is Kano Fujihira, who was just 14 years old at the time. Da Da Dance is a compilation of Momoko and Riho and a splicing of 2 different shows. In most fan cam videos of the American and European tour it would be either Riho or Momoko, as they toured with Babymetal in 2019. Kano had responsibilities with Sakura Gakuin as its president, a position Suzuka and Moa both held in Sakura Gakuin, and she’s never flown on a plane before. Some fans for 2019 did throw a stupid temper tantrum over the use of new Kami Band members who are from the west now known as the West Coast Kami Band, but like how the girls won over many, so did they and the payoff with the Legend Metal Galaxy concert in 2020 was well worth it.
COVID Era (Mar 2020 to April 2021) COIVD-19 has messed up a lot of things for everyone, Babymetal had to cancel their Asian tour, as well their big 10th Anniversary on October 10, 2020. Forced to keep it rather tame something very unlike Babymetal as even in their failures like the entire 2018 tour they do it septically. The question for many fans at the time was what of the Avengers, since COVID, Avenger Riho Sayashi has signed with a new agency and has moved on to other projects, including starting a fan club. Kano Fujihara graduated from Sakura Gakuin on August 30, 2020, a near 4-month delay. However, she and fellow Sakura Gakuin graduates Soyoka Yoshida, Tsugumi Aritomo, and Momoe Mori in the formation of @onefive. Which leaft Momoko Okazaki who is a graduate of Sakura Gakuin in March 2018 would be the last standing Avenger until she would become the new member of Babymetal. Music Videos of this Era BxMxC (First music video that isn’t footage from a show and featuring Su and Moa since Karate in 2015) Post 10-year Anniversary/ Covid Era Part 2 (May 2021-September 2022) The band stepped back from live shows due to the Covid-19 Pandemic and focusing on the sale of Merch. The band spent time working on a new concept album and was never shut down for a hiatus. Momoko had a very very short stint in a Korean Idol Competition Show called Planet 99. She performed perfectly, better than most of the other girls in the show. She even got the most votes in a small side competition destroying all the other 98 girls in the show in votes. This won her some hair dye (She was blonde for a bit). Ultimately be it dumb BM fans thinking the side competition was the actual competition, how the judging was heavily skewed to Korean voters, the fact that her fate was tied to 2 other girls one Korean and one Chinese, and or possibly ridged voting something the company producing the show has done in the past, Momoko was eliminated in the very first round. The Other One (October 2022-Current) They have released 5 songs on TH-cam, they performed a show in January 2023 where they performed these new songs leading up to the released of their Album in March with 10 new songs. During January and February shows Su and Moa were supported by Momoko. On April First (Fox Day) Their new show played many new and old songs as well as officially made Momoko Okazaki aka Momometal the official 3rd member. Bringing Babymetal back to a 3-member unit once again. This all kicked off their world tour in touring with Sabaton in Europe then Asia and Australia, and tours in US in the fall and a solo tour in Europe in winter, with a tour finally in Japan in 2024. As for practice.......I don't play guitar - but did as part of a bucket list learn bamboo flute (xiao) and kalimba - and incessant practise and having the instruments in my face ALL the time (both VERY portable) actually worked after about a year despite not really being able to read music - got 4 kalimbas and flutes and I leave them lying around with a rule I can't go past them without playing something on them - works for me. Megitsune...perfection :D
Love Babymetal that show had a limited crowd with no moving or screaming because of Covid. Their crowds are pretty insane. Also sold out 10 nights at Budokan in 2021 and back to back Tokyo Dome of 55,000 in 2016. Since you like thrash I suggest Ijime Dame Zettai, Sonisphere 2014. The show where Babymetal 1st went outside Asia and won Western metal fans. As for other bands check out Nemophila, right on par with Lovebites and also have an amazing guitar duo. If you want to do a double shot like this Revive mv and just released last week Revive live are a great starting point. Lovebites is more thrash and traditional with longer solos. Nemophila is a heavier (7 strings from both guitarist) with shorter but no less awesome solos.
This is JAPAN in a nutshell. They do these odd yet interesting mashups. Japan loves heavy metal. Japan also loves kawaii idol girl culture. SO... they put the two together and we have BabyMetal! ☺
Good reaction!! Looking forward to see you react to more Babymetal. Someone will feed you lots of information and recommendations what should be next. Whatever you do, before you head three or four songs from them, just don't go to listen GIVE ME CHOCOLATE.😂. The heaviest song about chocolate.
That was not the Kami band. Those were actors paid to pretend to play instruments, especially during live performances in the early years before they could afford to have the Kami Band. (Babybones). Amuse had absolutely no interest in funding Koba's heavy metal project until it actually gained some popularity.
My wife and I have been to Japan twice, different regions at different times of the year, but it was beautiful with people who are either kind or, at least, leave you alone. Great food, too. Definitely go if you can. As you can see Babymetal, is quite popular in Japan. The 2021 Budokan show was one of ten shows they did at that arena, like an event spanning a few months, as every show was sold out. I believe the crowd was intentionally thinned out due to the ongoing pandemic, but I'm glad the crowd was allowed to make noise. I think Babymetal received special permission for that; otherwise fans were expect to not cheer, sing along out loud, etc. One of their more knowledgeable fans could probably correct me if I'm wrong.
Great, honest Reaction. I think all the bands mentioned are great in their own way. If you focus on songwriting and exceptional drumming, Bandmaid is your choice. If you like classic heavy metal and technical perfection, you will prefer Lovebites. If you like it completely out of the norm and a good show, you'll love Babymetal. These are only my personal thoughts ( reduced to the essentials). I like all three bands, but my favorite is Babymetal for reasons mentioned above. Hope to see you at the next Reaction.
Nice reaction. The foxhole is deep and full of surprises. If you like variety Babymetal is right up your ally. You can get to see more of the Kamiband (Babymetals stage band) during their festival appearances. You can't miss them. Since they're right behind the ladies. The lead singer Su-metal is an amazing vocalist. Her ability to hit notes so cleanly is outstanding. By that I mean she never goes fishing for the note. Or bend into it unless called for by the song. And her stage presence shadow is better than most other bands. But I tend to think she got a big jump on most other performers since she started so young. She performed in front of 25k people before Babymetal formed. with one of her first groups Karen Girls. despite the Karen name part and all the negative associated with the name today. The Karen Girls was also a trio that did songs for an Anime of the same name. The girls in the anime of course had superpowers and saved people. One of the things that you may see posted about Babymetal is they are a happy place. And for many of their fans got them through some dark times in their lives. Especially when the covid lockdowns came around. But I have to tell ya that if you keep listening to Babymetal you might just find that you're happier than usual. No need to worry it's just Babymetal magic. and if you ever get to see them live. It's been called a life altering experience. Making you happy for extended periods of time. Smiling for almost no reason. And it's ok to share the magic of these small off stage and giant on-stage ladies with others. They might even come to thanks you for it. Enjoy the journey through the foxhole and into the Babymetal galaxy of music.
At some point, you are going to need to do a deep-dive into WAGAKKI BAND. They are not metal, but they are totally unique, and top-level talent. They have some songs that are almost metal. They are so talented, they do many different styles of music.
Well, I liked this band. It was different, with a catchy melody that drew me in. I will listen to more as it is presented, but, at the present time, at least, it's not something that is going on any of my playlists.
Welcome to the BABYMETAL Foxhole.🦊 Have a good exploration of their catalogue (ideally live performances) ... every song is different - some may not appeal to you (no problem, we can't all like the same things), but I suspect you might be adding others to your playlists.
BabyMetal began in 2010 there were Suzuka Nakamoto age 12 Moa Kikuchi and Yui Mizuno (Yui left in 2018 due to health reasons). Both Moa and Yui were 11 years old when the group began. All three were friends and classmates who attended an idol school/group (Sakura Gakuin) founded in 2010 by Amuse Talent Agency for girls 10 to 15. Themed around school life (they attended regular school as well) the girls would learn and train at vocals, dancing, public speaking and etiquette, etc., graduate at age 15 and then move onto whatever entertainment path they chose or that suited their talents. Key Kobayashi was a music producer for Amuse and heard Suzuka sing at age 9 and was impressed with her strong vocals and stage presence. Kobayashi was a fan of heavy metal but believed that the genre had become stale and tired (especially in Japan) with metal bands getting old Kobayashi believed the genre needed to be reborn (BabyMetal means the birth of a new metal genre). Kobayashi felt that Suzuka had the ability to front a metal band and that her vocals and presence could withstand the metal guitars and drums. The fusion of Jpop and Metal began. He placed Moa and Yui as backup singers/dancers and a phenomenon was about to result. At first Amuse showed no interest and the girls had only financing from Kobayashi. They performed at strip malls and small venues using clothes borrowed from friends and family. No money for a real band they had friends dressed in homemade skeleton costumes pretending to play instruments to a backtrack. They became a sensation (these young ladies paid their dues). Amuse saw the potential and in 2012 hired the best session musicians Japan had to offer (The Kami Band) who tours with them today (now includes world class musicians from the USA for tours outside of Asia). If you choose to explore more of BabyMetal I suggest reacting to LIVE performance videos as this is where they shine. They have over 50 LIVE songs/performances and each one is different. They are fearless exploring many genres and have the respect of the legends of Metal such as Metallica, Slipknot, Rob Zombie, The Red Hot Chili Peppers, Judas Priest and more. Avoid Glastonbury LIVE performances as the sound production by the BBC (who was in charge of that festival did a terrible job - mics not turned on, incorrect volume levels, etc.) Suggest reacting to these for a start. Their new album in my opinion that released March 24 is amazing with so many different styles. Good luck and hope to see you again.
Great reaction, Subscribed: BABYMETAL is best live because the audience (The One) is part of most performances. There is one other MV that is a must see though, “Karate” as it fully explains the message of the song . Welcome to the Fox hole. 🦊
In case you got bored before getting to the end of my previous much longer post: To see the musicians take center stage and rip some great solos, check out these live performances: Catch Me if You Can: th-cam.com/video/ugnyM69LN54/w-d-xo.html Rondo of Nightmare: th-cam.com/video/tmMocP99QkQ/w-d-xo.html
BTW - If you want to see more of the Kami Band I'd recommend " RONDO OF NIGHTMARE " which showcases them very well . I'd also suggest a few more Japanese bands you might enjoy - NEMOPHILA , GACHARIC SPIN , DOLLS$BOXX , and for something slightly different THE WAGAKKI BAND
Hello! Glad you're giving a chance to BABYMETAL, hopefuly this intrigued you enough to watch more! Immediately I would say it's a great reflex to check out live versions of BABYMETAL. They're first and foremost a live band. Studio albums and songs are mere appetizers for the live show they'll be putting on with their songs. Second of all, I would say that with Band-Maid and Lovebites, they're mostly catering to one genre, altough they're extremely good at it and that's why I love them. But when it comes to BABYMETAL, you should expect to find a plethora of genres and genre fusions. At it's core, BABYMETAL is a band that fuses elements of J-Pop and Metal. You could say they're a tribute band to all metal genres but with a J-Pop twist (in varying degrees of prominence). They do have songs that will sound more like a Lovebites type (which is mainly power-metal) or a Band-Maid type (which is mainly hard rock). But they really have an immense catalogue in terms of diversity of their sound. If you do love Lovebites, I would suggest you check out BABYMETAL's songs Road of Resistance (Live in Japan), Amore or Arkadia. If you love guitar (and bass and drums) solos, I would suggest watching Akatsuki (Live at Budokan), Rondo of Nightmare (Live at Budokan) or Kagerou (Live at The Forum) which are (more or less) available on TH-cam. Obviously they have much better things that aren't on TH-cam but we make with what we do! If you love more technicality, I would also suggest Tales of the Destinies (Live at Tokyo Dome) which is a full-on Prog-Metal song approved by Mike Portnoy himself. In the same vein although less technical but still Prog-Metalish and more recent is Mirror Mirror (Live). Overall, they have so much diversity over 4 different albums that you are bound to find things that will be closer to your liking. I hope this helps you navigate a bit through the discography and this helps you find things you'd like to discover. Let me know if you want me to help you find the right videos. Great reaction and I hope to see you react to more soon! ;)
Nice double reaction! Babymetal has been around since 2010 when they started as a sub-unit of the jpop idol group Sakura Gakuin. They have grown up and matured a lot aince they started when they were just 12/11 years old. Su-metal, the lead singer, is now 25, Moametal (scream and dance) is now 23 (soon 24) and Momometal just turned 20. They released 4 albums thus far with their latest “The Other One” being released just in March this year. Megitsune, along with Gimme Chocolate are early hits but are still being played at their live shows up to this date, with Megitsune being their most played live song overall. It is a banger, no question about that! Keep going down the foxhole, you won’t regret it 🤘🔥🦊
Since you are a guitar guy, BabyMetal's main guitar player Takayoshi Ohmura was Matry's Freidman's star pupil and plays in Marty's band. The mix is much better live. The studio mix can be weak with too much processing. There are songs that show off the band more, but they get hidden often.
BTW - I think you shall consider Nemophila also. They have two guitar schredders, just as Lovebites. And they make good music. Some info about that band: * Saki plays a seven string Killer guitar, she is top notch and well know. * Hazuki plays seven or six string Ibanez guitars. She is a very technical player * Haraguchi-san plays a five string base. She is the least known in the band, but she is very good * Tamu, the drummer is very well known in Japan, and super good. If you do a TH-cam search on her you will be impressed. * The singer Mayo has a raspy voice and is a beast on screaming.
I'm a huge BM fan, but I saw some of your reactions in the past. I personally think that this is not the perfect song for you to be a proper BM introduction. "Road of Resistance" should be a perfect one, it's heavy, it's very complex, it's loud and beautiful. But if you prefer to see some more prog-like where band is shining brighter than stars - try "Tales of the Destinies". Regarding your reactions. That's funny that you didn't notice that it was about a decade between two videos. Actually this song is being a part of Japanese pop culture all this time. Many big bands made own covers to it and playing it on a big shows. For example, you can check Nemophila's one.
Babymetal is not a metal band. They are an Idol Group that does Metal. The band is not part of Babymetal and only supports them in concerts. I don't see that as a negative. They are a different kind of group. They were the first to do this. They invented this genre of music. Obviously Babymetal is a super high quality product. I love everything about them. It's fantastic that they don't write the music. Their songs are incredible because many many people wrote them. They don't all sound the same.
Is Babymetal still considered idols? I thought they had kinda aged out of that since they are getting into their mid 20's in age now. I doubt Amuse still has "no dating" rules and things like that for the girls anymore, they are too old for that to be realistic. But I agree with you about the girls not writing the music being a strength. It gives Babymetal a lot of freedom that many bands don't have. Babymetal can go from straight up power metal like Road of Resistance to trance/arabic/pop-metal like Metalizm and it doesn't even seem strange. If any other metal band tried to do that, a lot of people would be like WTF is this? As others have said before, Babymetal is their own genre.
@@Grahlt _"Is Babymetal still considered idols?"_ it depends, in the West they are not, but that's because most people don't really understand the idol concept and the idol scene/industry. But yes they are by definition an idol group. _"I thought they had kinda aged out of that since they are getting into their mid 20's"_ see my first point, there is no age limit to be an idol, most of them are in the 16-25 age range, up to 36/37 among the idols I know _"I doubt Amuse still has no dating rules and things like that"_ see again my first point :p this "rule" is more a misconception and a cliché than an actual rule (even though it definitely exists in some agencies unfortunately). Regarding Amuse however, we do know this was never a thing and that the agency never interfered in the girls private lives, as long as they were properly doing their job
@@Grahlt I would call Babymetal an alt-Idol Group. Like Broken by the Scream, Atarashii Gakko or Passcode. Obviously not an Idol Group. Idol Group that does Metal = alt-idol. Not that that is the only way to be alt-Idol but that is one way. Are alt-Idols Idols? I dunno. :) Are the girls in Broken by the Scream and Passcode Idols? I think the answer would be the same as Babymetal.
@@TheLeomarti well put. Thank you. Also the 'no dating' usually means no public dating. They can have a boyfriend just don't talk about it. It's not such a big deal. It's a job that nobody is forcing them to do.
You're witnessing a 15 year old Su-Metal in the MV in 2013 vs a 23 year old Su-Metal at the live concert in 2021. The girls are the youngest to have ever performed at Budokan over 2 nights in 2014 at 14, 14.5, and 16 years old. In early 2021, they did 10 performances at Budokan. A total of 12 times total. No one has played at Budokan more than Babymetal and its not even close. Given that performing at Budokan is by invite only, shows how much Babymetal is praised. Even X-Japan, SCANDAL, and AKB48 didn't get as many invitations. Babymetal were also allowed to film for the MV 'The One - Stairway to Living Legend' in late 2021 just before their over year long hiatus.
They are getting better and better. But, Almost the same dance moves in their songs and music. Not much new groundbreaking, but they are entertaining. And they are building a very good following. Japan is at their core in Metal music right now. Lovebites, Band Maid, many others.
I'm not into Babymetal, a backing band though very good, with a girl singing and a couple girls dancing doesn't appeal to me. I have to hand it to the promoters who thought up the concept, something new. I'll stick with Lovebites, Band-Maid, Aldious, Mary's Blood and Bridear for Japanese rock/metal.
The concept for the masses has to be the stupidest thing I see people say about babymetal. Just think for a second, like, actually think about what you are saying. We are talking about a niche sub-genre of metal that doesn't appeal to the mainstream metal fans or mainstream pop fans. Where are these masses everyone is talking about. If we are talking appeal to the masses, the bands you mention in Lovebites, Band-Maid, Aldious, Mary's Blood and Bridear all have more mass appeal to mainstream metal fans such as yourself. Just because babymetal weren't conceptualised in the same way other bands were does not make it a concept for the masses or some sort of money printing operation. As for not liking the band, fair enough, each to their own, but don't spout out some nonsense without actually taking the time to do some research
@@mltdwn5415 I'll take off "masses", but they sure are damn popular, look at views on TH-cam the concert attendance. I should have said human nature always loves something new and flock to it and the ones that came up with the cutsie girls up front concept knew what they were doing. I'd be for them if it wasn't for the adolescent sounding vocals and girls dancing. I give the studio support band props for playing their instruments exceptionally well. Since I know so many rock and metal bands, they are not much interest to me. Glad you and others like them.
@@metalmark1214 I think you'll find that Amuse didn't know what they were doing and didn't really give much thought to producer Key Kobayashi's side project. Their headline tour this year are venues ranging from 2 to 10 thousand capacity, hardly massive. They tend to do two big shows in Japan a year this is where they record for TH-cam/Blu-rays, the shows this year were 10 and 25 thousand capacity so not as crazy as it might seem considering Japan is their biggest market. Band-Maid will play the Yokohama Arena later this year with a sold-out capacity of 17,000. As for the adolescent-sounding vocals, they were adolescents at the time. Su's vocals have grown so much since their inception, you might be surprised by the new album. But you're entitled to your opinion and music is very subjective
Asterism Dawn Reaction! th-cam.com/video/_ptWv2pKL-Y/w-d-xo.html
If you wish to see the Kami band perform some intros . Might I suggest Rondo of Nightmare live at at Budokan 2014.
If you really want to see the Kami Band (the band behind Babymetal) I recommend Rondo of Nightmare live at Budokan, around the 2014 performance.
Welcome to the Foxhole and BabyMetal's journey 🦊🤘🔥
Cool reaction to enjoy the original trio and the new formation with two of the original trio and a new member.
They are:
*SuMetal* lead vocalist, now 25.
The origin of the "fox sign" is really long to explained but here's a short summary:
The Fox God (Kitsune Sama) is the Metal God who sent these girls (and Kami Band after to help them with the metal sound) to unify the world and set them free from Jpop slavery. The kitsune sign came out by accident around the time they created the group by the girls when trying to imitate the typical metal horn sign they noticed it was similar when doing fox shadow shape, they implemented this as part of the lore, imagery, theme and live concerts, the lore is huge so take your time and keep digging and riding the Foxhole 🦊🤘
Btw they praised for real and made a ritual to the Fox God for this song to be a hit and successful, and thanks to the Fox God this is one of their major hits and favorite BM fan songs. -NotACult- 👀
This is a song with the arrangements by YuppeMetal, he took inspiration from "Memphis May Fire - The Sinner" for the drum section, another song that i recommend you for your own time if you want.
Next suggestion:
- Karate live at Download Festival 2016.
"Maidens shall not be underestimated!" (That is what Su said when showing the knife in the mike handle)
I would recommend Yava, Rondo of Nightmare (both with Kami-band intro)
Or Akatsuki and Amore which influence guitar solos in middle, to see more of the band
YAVA! is a fun song, similar to Bubblegum Fever.
Perfect choice for a double play. Karate mv n live woild also make a great fouble play.
The energy in their music is like a shot of pure adrenaline.
素晴らしいリアクションありがとう!

To see the musicians take center stage and rip some great solos, check out these live performances:

You won't find a metal/rock band more Japanese than the Wagakki Band.

Finally get to see BABYMETAL live in Sept. Then I can die a happy man :)
Same in October! Bucket list will be checked but won't be complete until I see them in Japan.
Po!
Check out Rondo of nightmare with mischief of metal gods intro, there you can see a lot more of the backing band
More BABYMETAL! 🦊❤️
Yes please
BABYMETAL 101
Babymetal is a Japanese group founded in 2010 and produced by Kei “Koba” Kobayashi from the Amuse Inc. talent agency.
They are supported by a rotating selection of talented male backing musicians known as the Kami Band (Kami is usually poorly translated as gods, but in truth it more closely means awe inspiring spirit, entity, or object) It is why they are dressed in white to look like ghosts or spirits, though Kami being used as God(s) is so common in translation the white outfits get lost.)
Past Formations.
Heavy Music Club Era (2010-2012)
From 2010 to 2012 Babymetal consists of a three-member formation, Suzuka Nakamoto (Age 12), Moa Kikuchi (Age 10), and Yui Mizuno aka "Yuimetal" pronounced Yui-Metal.

Babymetal/ Metal Resistance Era (2012-2017)
Starting in 2012 with the Legend I concert, Babymetal began its slow divorce from Sakura Gakuin, and was the first introduction of the Kami Band as well as the “Lore” that is still heavily involved in Babymetal but makes far less sense than it did during this time.

The Dark Times, The Chosen 7 Era (2018)
In December 2017, Yui would miss the Legend-S concert for health reasons, these health problems would prosiest into 2018 and greatly affect the 2018 touring season bring the “Chosen 7” formation, consisting of Suzuka Nakamoto, Moa Kikuchi, and 2 backing dancers Minako Maruyama, and Minami Tsukui.
(Something many idiots within the fandom refuse or are too stupid to understand)
In October Babymetal had a concert called Dark Night Carnival which added dancers, Shoko Akiyama, Saya Hirai, and Kotono, placing a total of seven girls on stage. This was also done without warning to fans and was an absolute mess. Babymetal would finish off the 2018 tour season returning to the 3-member formation with just Saya Hirai joining them in southeast Asia and Australia. Ending one of the most troubling times in Babymetal’s history.

Metal Galaxy Era (2019- Feb 2020)
First introduced in 2019 during the Babymetal Arises concert in Yokohama, before the start, the “Avenger” support dancer concept was explained in the lore, and the concept thanks to communication and a maintaining of the 3-member formation brought Babymetal out of dark times brought about during 2018. Babymetal seemed to have returned to its roots with the Avengers, as 2 of the three (Kano and Momoko) come from Sakura Gakuin. The third Riho, went to the same performing arts school as Suzuka during the same time, Actors School Hiroshima aka ASH.

(Avenger confusion)
Which Avenger one sees can be confusing for those new to Babymetal.
COVID Era (Mar 2020 to April 2021)
COIVD-19 has messed up a lot of things for everyone, Babymetal had to cancel their Asian tour, as well their big 10th Anniversary on October 10, 2020.

Post 10-year Anniversary/ Covid Era Part 2 (May 2021-September 2022)
The band stepped back from live shows due to the Covid-19 Pandemic and focusing on the sale of Merch.
The Other One (October 2022-Current)
They have released 5 songs on TH-cam, they performed a show in January 2023 where they performed these new songs leading up to the released of their Album in March with 10 new songs.

Golden rule for reacting to BabyMetal: React to their live performances, they have more than 3 live albums with spectacular stage production.
I agree! Babymetal shines the most live, but this mv would be an exception due to the breakdown surprise.
he did watch them live
As for practice.......I don't play guitar - but did as part of a bucket list learn bamboo flute (xiao) and kalimba - and incessant practise and having the instruments in my face ALL the time (both VERY portable) actually worked after about a year despite not really being able to read music - got 4 kalimbas and flutes and I leave them lying around with a rule I can't go past them without playing something on them - works for me. Megitsune...perfection :D
good show dude, BABYMETAL is all kinds of awesome.
"Road of Resistance", and "ijime, Dame, Zettai" next. Great live songs, a ton of moshing! Welcome to the foxhole... Babymetal are incredible. Truly.
😁😁😁🤘🤘🤘
Always find it hilarious when I watch the video and the Kami Band playing 4 shamisen while hearing these heavy riffs 😂
That was not the Kami band. Those were actors paid to pretend to play instruments, especially during live performances in the early years before they could afford to have the Kami Band. (Babybones). Amuse had absolutely no interest in funding Koba's heavy metal project until it actually gained some popularity.
🤘🦊🤘
I think Babymetal Death Legend 1997 should be in your near future.
more BABYMETAL reactions please ❤
You need to check out Nemophila too - another great Japanese metal band. I recommend started with their songs "Dissension" or "Adabana".
They also do an excellent cover of this song!
BABY METAL🔥🤘🦊🤘🔥
Xanax got me to London and back. XD 🤘🦊🤘
Kitsune Up!!!
I really appreciate you taking the time to watch and post this, it really means a lot :)
Cool man🤘
At some point, you are going to need to do a deep-dive into WAGAKKI BAND.
They are not metal, but they are totally unique, and top-level talent. They have some songs that are almost metal.
They are so talented, they do many different styles of music.
Rondo of nightmare if you want guitar solos
Avoid Glastonbury LIVE performances as the sound production by the BBC (who was in charge of that festival did a terrible job - mics not turned on, incorrect volume levels, etc.)
Suggest reacting to these for a start.

At their concert in Yokohama on April 1 it was announced that a permanent third member Momoko Okazaki (who is also a graduate of Sakura Gakuin and has been appearing with them LIVE since 2019) has officially become the third member.

#notacult
BTW - I think you shall consider Nemophila also. They have two guitar schredders, just as Lovebites. And they make good music.
Some info about that band:
* Saki plays a seven string Killer guitar, she is top notch and well know.
* Hazuki plays seven or six string Ibanez guitars. She is a very technical player
* Haraguchi-san plays a five string base. She is the least known in the band, but she is very good
* Tamu, the drummer is very well known in Japan, and super good.
_"I thought they had kinda aged out of that since they are getting into their mid 20's"_ see my first point, there is no age limit to be an idol, most of them are in the 16-25 age range, up to 36/37 among the idols I know
_"I doubt Amuse still has no dating rules and things like that"_ see again my first point :p this "rule" is more a misconception and a cliché than an actual rule (even though it definitely exists in some agencies unfortunately).
Regarding Amuse however, we do know this was never a thing and that the agency never interfered in the girls private lives, as long as they were properly doing their job
I agree Babymetal is not a metal band, they are singers, just like Alice Cooper or Ozzy. Singers with a support band.
BABYMETAL started in 2010 pre dating Bandmaid, Lovebites, Nemphila and enabling female metal to aspire to world recognition.
Next song/band from Japan: *Nemophila - Rise*
