    Many thanks to you and the patient for sharing this edifying video. I had never seen the Chvostek sign before.

    I was testing myself the same way and I never had a clue that this test had a name. I was right on the money when I was telling my wife that I am low on calcium. So nice that I have now a video proof to send her! 👍

    In 2000, after a Fine Needle Aspiration Biopsy (the Chair of Radiology at USA Health, Dr. Stephen Teplick, was the architect of FNAB), I had am emergency thyroidectomy. Surgeons could not find any parathyroid glands, rendering hypoparathyroid and hypothyroid. In 1990, I had open chest surgery for post-media stinal ectopic thyroid tumor and pituitary tumor.

      @@lmellick You would have really enjoyed working with Dr. Teplick. He passes arsy poo rematury from an undiagnosed hesrt event. His brother, Dr. Dick Teplick, anesthesia by training was our UMC Medical Director. Do not know where he is. I am retired from the Com where I was assigned to research and write peer journal articles for Orthopedics when the wonderful Dr. Fred Meyer was Chair.

    I have Chvostek Sign always.
    Calcium in normal level.
    Sometimes I have low ionized calcium and tetany symptomes.

      Low magnesium level or alkalosis can cause it also
      It called normocalcemic tetany

    I had a thyroidectomy over a year ago also had trapped cancer in a nodule (did not spread thankfully!) and the hypocalcemia I had felt mainly was in my face i would feel tingling on my cheeks. but I don't have the twitching thankfully. I have calcium supplements to help if it ever dips low.

    Did she have a Trousseau sign as well?

    • @lmellick
      @lmellick  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      She normally does and we ran out of time to film that. However, if I remember correctly when we put the tourniquet on her arm for blood draw, she was having subtle symptoms.

    Which doctor should I visit? I am 23, and I feel the very same symptoms. 😮😮😮

      Your primary care provider should be able to help you. However, you might eventually need to see an endocrinologist.
