Hawks front office simply did a poor job of building a balanced team around Trae. Many one dimensional players or specialists were added (mainly spot up shooters) but versatile, balanced scorers were avoided almost as if it was done intentionally. Bringing in Murray was an ill concieved pairing from the start because he can't guard any of the big wings that dominate the league today or help with front court creation. Atlanta doesn't have any prior proof that they know how to build a contender with anybody...not just Trae.
I'm sure Murray could guard some of the bigger 2s in the league but for those teams with competent 1s and 2s would probably cook because Trae is such a liability on D especially when he doesn't try. If I'm Murray I am a decent to good offensive player that Im not killing myself guarding the better opposing guard if my teammate is not trying at all or is extremely bad and sometimes is a black hole in offense.
@@pcharl01 As a PG Murray's defense is better but @ the SG he's been pretty bad and let's face it hell never be Trae offensively. More balanced does not equal better overall. Point is, ideally, these two should never have shared the court as teammates since neither gives the other what they need to reach their peak potential.

Rumors the hawk are looking at trading Trae Young or Murray, and 1st to pistons for IVEY, Stewart, and 5th pick. Seems this would be good for both teams.
Spurs have 2025 Hawks pick and Bulls 2025 top10 protected pick! That is how GOOD TEAMS operate!!
And they have the #4 and #8 pick in this years draft!

This is an odd take for anyone that's been paying attention to how big sports betting has become over the last couple years. This is the new normal and completely legal. Unless I'm just missing your point.
We need to trade either Young or Murray. We drafted a tall pg Kobe Bupkin, and he is already a better defender than Young or Murray. He played more when Young got hurt. That is the reason the def looked better. He is are 3rd defense ratings as a rookie. He needs to work on his shooting from the outside.
They don't need to blow it up. Retained both Trae and Dejounte, draft Sarr

Good luck contending with Trae's defense & inability to score more efficiently. Especially given his large price tag.
Murray also hasn't played well enough & has seemed like a distraction.

I think HAWKS are kinda stuck with Trae & Murray, hasn't worked out. & only way out is to disassemble & rebuild. I get there are no 'star' players in this draft, but can definitely build a solid, better competing team with them. That's why all Teams have scouting. I'd say, Trae to the Spurs for their #4 & #8 picks. That would give them the #1, #4, #8 picks, that should be 3 solid starting players drafted. Still have Johnson who has shown promise, Hunter is under contract & OK. Murray can finally be the PG unless scouting feels his market is high & trading him is better bc there is a PG they can get with 1 of top 8 picks they have. Bc you can't just stay where you are, seen what Trae & Murray do, not even top 8 in the EAST?
