  • After watching an interview with Chadwick Boseman on the Breakfast Club, I was inspired to do an African Ancestry DNA to find out about my family's history.
    My husband and I did a Ancestry DNA a few years ago, which was an amazing experience.
    • Our Ancestry DNA Resul...
    However, this DNA test identifies the name of the people linked to my maternal side. Please give this video a thumbs up and subscribe to my channel.

    I did my DNA test with African Ancestry and found out that I'm Igbo on my maternal line. By the way this is a proud Grenadian whose happy to find out from once we came. The Caribbean is an important part of our story but it is not the beginning of it.

      Do you truly believe it? Show at least 1 relative .. FOR ENTERTAINMENT PURPOSES ONLY !!! They cannot give you ethnicity at certainty at most 50% not 100 but they can connect you with relatives. So where’s your cousin from Africa??

      Absolutely. I agree. There’s so much more to learn about our history.

    I got back my results and I got so many tribes 97% matches with the Fula people in Guinea Bissau, Mandinka in Senegal, Mende and Temne in Sierra Leone like you and Kru people in Liberia. I tend to go with the Mandinka since I got Mende as well. It’s basically the same tribe just called Mende in Sierra Leone. It’s been amazing to learn this info. We are descendants of the Mali Empire 💃🏿

    I took African Ancestry; My Mother side goes back to Nigeria 🇳🇬 L3e2b Yoruba & Fulani, For The paternal lineage it’s complicated for Haplogrouping males they don’t show you oddly you have to find a Predicting Haplogroup site, type in the Markers & Allele sizes (E1B1A) was my Y DNA, Central Africa Gabon 🇬🇦 BaKota, Ateke & Mitsogo. Bantu, from what I know their are more Bantus on the East coast of America & South America.

    I just got my test kit in the mail yesterday. I’m also from Jamaica 🇯🇲 and have always heard that the Africans taken to Jamaica were from Ghana. So I was kind of leaning towards the test maybe coming back as a tribe from Ghana, but seeing yours come back Sierra Leone shows me that our story isn’t so cut and dried lol. Thank you for sharing and when I get my results I’ll definitely come back and share.

      Worthwhile considering that when our ancestors were taken the current counties didn't exist with exact borders. Sierra Leone was used to resettling Jamaican Maroons and Black Nova Scotians who fought for the British in the War of Independence. There was a lot of too-ing and fro-ing - Google Jamaican maroon Sierra leonne.
      Plus Slaves were traded between the Islands, and from North America and South America Guyana, Panama etc. So we really are a mixed bag.

    From what I recall reading the Mende are originally Mandika people from the Empire of Mali. Some of them immigrated to Sierra Leone on something called the Mane invasion probably around the mid 1500s or early 1600s after a female General named Macarico fled after insulting the Mansa (Emperor) of Mali. Once in Sierra Leone some of the Mandinka intermarried with the Bullom and other coastal people in Sierra Leone and the offspring were known as Mende or Mande,. However whether called Mende or Mande or Mandinka or Mandingo or Malinke or Bambara or Soninke or any of the othe Mande tribal names they are Mande people from the West African Empires of Ghana and Mali. From what I recall Mali is a translation of Mande and Mandinka means "people of Mali."

      Also a lot of Mende ppl migrated to Sierra Leone from Guinea from the 1870 to 1890.

    the actors Isaiah Washington and Michael K Williams ancestry results are Mende too. I've been thinking about doing this more and more. AncestryDNA is good but for Black folks, this is even better. I want to tie my ethnic background to an ancestral country of origin and this test will do that.

    • @Im.Etheric
      @Im.Etheric 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Justinthe Comments that’s not how that works, if you come from a particular Haplogroup family then you’ll trace to a specific people group, now it’s possible that her father could be of another Haplogroup family an come from a tribe who has the same genetic sequence, precentages throughout Africa only tells you how frequent your dna is found among a population that belongs to a Haplogroup family, example I could have (E1b1A) at 10% found in South Africa and in West Africa it can be 80% common dna most tribes get adopted into others or get married into others, some tribes are matriarchal

    • @Im.Etheric
      @Im.Etheric 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Justinthe Comments Mtdna & YDNA are what determines sex & linage, autosomal dna only provides characteristics to determine what a child may carry over, like disease, & anatomy hight etc

    Those who dispute the effectiveness of DNA testing are idiots.
    All Africans can easily guess the origin of other blacks in the diaspora from their physical appearance. They had known it for a very long time but could not tell them.
    Soon, by following these DNA test results, African Americans, Caribbeans and West Indians will be able to guess the origin of their compatriots themselves. Long series make it easier to understand the laws of breed genetics.
