Do you think Malaysia should continue giving out subsidies, or reduce it?

As shown in 5:04, the most pressing issue supposedly is to reduce Emoluments (25.2%) category.

Continue subsidies, some report do not show true what people face on the ground. please come to the ground and interview people than you know why Malaysian really need subsidies. Report do not 100% correct.

I would add one point. the subsidies are so engrained where the public take it for granted as their right that it becomes a political issue whenever any rationalisation is proposed. anwar is taking some steps in the right direction but political considerations constantly cloud decisions. bear in mind he is leading a coalition formed from a marriage of convenience which could falter should public anger boils over.

Problem with Malaysia is that most citizen cannot see things in the long term. A large portion of the working class do not pay taxes due to low income but are so entitled that they demand more subsidies. And the middle and high income earners need to pay taxes to fund the subsidies for these entitled fools.

The long run objective should be to rid of these ‘crutches’. We cannot go on relying on these subsidies.

I am Malay, I go through the systems we are from poor family in Kampung Kelantan and now my siblings and I are all have high education and working in MnC earnings more then the medium income but looking back yess many locals do take it for granted, I believe even if the Govt reduce subsidies & increase tax properly and with strategic steps, people will able to adapt, people are resourceful, mostly are educated, suffers a bit for a better future, if the reductions will bring more economic opportunities and healthy market, a risk must be take, we can't satisfy everyone

All Malaysia has to do for long-terms and optional direction for its growth is the look into investing in Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia and possibility in the near future Myanmar when things calmed down there. But the problems is that Thailand is blocking land access into these regions which makes Thailand the only gateway for Malaysian business and people to grasp the opportunity within ASEAN. At the end of the day, Malaysia has all the tools its needed to sustain its growth and bring about a new kind of development and income growth into Malaysia back.

this is too simple a concept to comprehend for many. the thinking is that government is only for security, corporations for economy and finances and tax payers sheep

In general, subsidies are bad. It's only warranted when there's short-term political objectives. Giving subsidies indefinitely will always bleed any government dry. This is true for oil, rice, energy or whatnot.
The Philippines should take Malaysia as a cautionary tale.

I think you are not taking into account that fact that there are millions of micro businesses like food stalls that bring in billions of RM to the economy. If we lose these, the government will have to subside the unemployed millions. so back to square one, with tragic consequences.

Now that Malaysia Proton has a EV, how would the Govt provide subsides for Electricity used by EV?
If electricity use by EV is not subsided, why would a Malaysia change his petrol car to EV when he can pump Cheap RON 95 Petrol while if he switch to a EV.. and charge it to full he dun get subsidies.
