I wanted to personally thank you for putting out this video! I am a perpetual 16-17 handicapper that has struggled with chipping/pitching for years. I took this advice to the range and the course and today, for the first time EVER, shot even par over 9 holes. I am still having trouble processing this. TBH, I figured out a couple of things with my driver as well, but the chipping/pitching has seen by far the largest improvement. Single digits, here I come! Thanks again.

If you've been golfing for years and you're stuck at 16 HC - this stuff here is probably where you're losing strokes. 70% of golf is within 140 yards. Like you said, you shot even par on front 9.
You're probably a true 6 HC if you stop losing strokes around the green.

Single digit handicap Canadian here. Great video man, I've been thinking about chipping a lot lately...
After playing for 20+ years I think chipping may be one of the hardest parts of golf for new players. You can accidently hit good shots and even fluke putts in, but it's pretty dang hard to fake a chip shot. Especially if you have to put some air under it.
Growing up in Canada I was lucky my Dad let me cut a makeshift green in the backyard. Couldn't putt on it but great for chipping. I can't say how many but I probably hit tens of thousands of chips over a few years. Chipping and pitching is the best part of my game now surprise surprise.
Here's a tip for newer golfers. If you want to really lower your scores learn to chip and putt better.
    Get them reps in!
    Cheers

Hi Grant, since driving ranges don't simulate uphill and downhill lies can you make a video on where the ball needs to be in the stance, how your aim point changes, clubbing up/down, and overall on the course tips since its near impossible to practice? @@pt9373 I find some of my playing partners who are scratch players have a different mindset when it comes to playing the game.
They putt differently (the mindset seems to be more of "make it" rather than "don't three putt") - of course this is just one example.
The reason I ask for Grant's input is when I watch his videos - he always seems to be on the positive side of things (ie: I will get this up and down for an eagle).
Obviously a very talented player - I would like to hear more about his insights, partly to get a glimpse as well of how he thinks when he plays - and hopefully I can learn and apply some of it on my own game.

I normally chip the way i had seen in the ever popular Phil Mickelson "chipping 101" video, and while this works, it has not been super consistent for me and i often have the same mis-hits Grant is speaking of here! I saw this video early this AM, and snuck out a little early to get 9 in. I had been thinking of these concepts all day, went out, had a horrible driver day, and thanks to some very chill chipping, I still salvaged a 45. I know to most of you that is a terrible round, but I just started golfing in June 2023. My handicap was a calculated 27 when the "amateur vs Pro grip" video was released, I am now a calculated 21. Great and simple video!
Please also add how to chip out of the rough.

Green side bunkers. Downswing to shallow the club and early extension correction.

I would love to see more with chipping. Maybe some longer ones and even some pitch shots. Im really focusing on my short game, and I want to learn everything I can about it. Great video. Thank you

Two parts of my game that is a struggle are: 1) woods from the fairway (3 wood more struggles than 7 wood) and 2) fundamentals of putting within 5 feet. Anything on those two areas would be helpful. Will practice the setup on chips for now. Thank you GH team.

@granthorvatteaches, thank you for these tips. Implemented them and my short game was noticeably improved last night. Even chipped in the last one…. Never a fan of using my sand wedge to chip but with your tips, I now like it!

Hi Grant this was very useful. Thanks. Please could you talk about how to chip/pitch from different lies, uphill, downhill etc? Plus perhaps out of different types of rough. Thanks!

Would love to see videos dedicated to the different sequences of the golf swing; Set Up, Takeaway, Back Swing, Down Swing, Impact, and Finish. Might be too broken down but along those lines. And then a “check” or “reference” to know you’re going in the right direction. Like the takeaway video from good good labs and seeing where the club head was in relation to the hands and the angle of the club head.

Great video! I’d love to see your method for hitting higher shots with mid and long irons. I learned to play golf in Texas where low flighted shots are a must in the windy conditions. However, now that I live in Arizona, I really need to hit my 5-9 irons higher so the ball lands softer. Thanks!

The low left exit/release that I see even you have Grant. Definitely would love a lesson on how you achieve that! Thanks for the lessons Brotha 🙌🏾

How to strike irons more pure. How to line up on the ball for an iron strike, how the club face should be positioned to the ball, etc.

I think TH-cam was spying on me to suggest this video. I shot a 103 yesterday and I drove the ball well, hitting 11 fairways. I played the same ball for 18 holes. The short game however was abysmal, I thinned a couple of my first few chips and from there on out I was afraid to commit to the short swing. The fear of knocking it over the green was seared into my brain, no matter what I did I couldn’t regain a confident swing. I had a couple of 30 yard chips that didn’t travel half the distance 😢

Grant, thank you so much! I recently had the best round I've ever recorded, but my chipping ruined it for me. I screwed up every chip around the green which led me to 2 putt or 3 putt often.. Hoping this really helps improve this part of my game!

I would like to see an in depth lesson on hitting driver off the tee. I have improved alot watching videos however, I have lost such distance. I have put it to one side because I've have been hitting more fairways. But I would like to start gaining more distance. Now I have started to lose the slice!
I would also really enjoy watching some putting tutorials. Maybe just a glimpse of how you set up before taking a putt and what goes through your mind.

You should do a video for looking down at the club (like a golfer's POV in the setup). I struggle with being confident that I have the club face setup correctly and sometimes lose my feel completely because of it. Like what does having the club face square actually look like? How far is should the head of the club be from my toes?
