I've got a 2010 Honda Pilot Touring 4WD with over 180K. We bought it with 75K and have never had a mechanical problem with it. It shifts just as smooth as the day we bought it. As a family of 6 it has been an excellent vehicle. We love it and will replace it with another Pilot. I especially like this (the 2nd gen)-I like boxy over the more minivan look of the third gen.

    3. Drained and replaced rear differential fluid
    4. Drained the transmission and replaced with new fluid

I have done basic repairs myself but lifting the car and supporting it is a big fear of mine and im sure there are many people out there avoiding diy repairs because of this. if anyone reads this and agrees like the comment so he might see this!

Your owners manual will show jack points. You can test a spot with your jack if you're unsure! Put it on a spot and jack slowly, if there is any sign of the car bending, stop. It should be a rock solid point. Underneath subframes you'll see very large bolts usually with large steel beams, it's safe to jack from those. Underneath tow hooks as well on cars with steel built in tow hooks

VCM has been causing so many problems with my Pilot. When I change my spark plugs, the 3 on the rear bank cylinders 1, 2 & 3 I believe, will be all gunked up. At about 175k I noticed that the engine started burning a ton of oil. I bought a device that disables the VCM by bypassing the temperature sensor coming off the radiator. Stopped throwing codes, burning oil, and I haven’t really noticed much of a gas mileage difference either. I’m about to hit 225k here pretty soon. I hope on later models Honda makes it easier to disable the VCM

To all those who own or intend to own a 2016-2022 Pilot PLEASE service your transmission!!!
I work as a service writer at a Honda dealership and I’m currently on my 3rd customer who’s paying out of pocket for a transmission replacement on their 2018 Pilot 102k miles because the fluid hadn’t been changed till 80k. These new Pilot transmissions are very high maintenance and the oil pump inside the trans WILL go out between 80-120k miles if the fluid is not changed every few oil changes or every 20-30k miles!! My shop foreman actually changes the trans fluid in his wife’s 2016 Pilot every other oil change. If your trans doesn’t go out, your torque converter will which just so happens to be cheaper than a new trans but still almost $3k repair.

We bought a used 4WD Pilot over a used MDX because the Pilot felt better on the road (2 different Pilots and 2 different MDXs). Sure the Acura SH-AWD is programmed better than the Honda VTM-4, but it helps keep the car straight when hydroplaning on the interstate.

I have a 2005 Honda Pilot that has 168,000 miles and drive it everyday for personal use/work.
Only bad thing is that you can feel the shifting a little bit and that the power steering pumps are weak over time.
    Besides that..I love my Pilot

I have owned or currently own a 2019 Toyota Highlander, a 2016 Honda Pilot, and a 2018 Acura MDX. The Pilot was the worst of the three. It was loud on the highway and just cheap overall. It was even starting to rust on the hatchback. The Acura MDX rode very well, was very quiet on the highway and the seats were amazingly comfortable. The Highlander rides almost as well as the Acura and is quieter than the Pilot. I was disappointed with the Pilot in general and recently traded it in. The Acura is the best of the three.

The 2016 pilot had a lot of customer complaints. Try other years above 2016

Good Video Scotty! One big point you slightly hit on is VERY IMPORTANT! I own this exact Honda Pilot model with the AWD system and the brakes are NOT big enough for the heavy vehicle! I got in a car accident this past year in the car due to the brakes!

My girlfriend has a 2017 CR-V. She thought the Pilot was too big.
    Still, both are great vehicles.

I have a 2004 and it breaks down every couple months. This time it's rotors brakes and calipers at the same time. It's super firstly and wasn't taken care of before I got it. But, I love my pilot. It gets me where I need to go. It also has 230k

We have a ‘16 pilot (2WD, v6). It had 117k miles on it. For ride comfort and features we love it. Lots of room and great for family trips. Unfortunately our transmission does this spring - just 2 weeks after we had a full transmission flush. Honda corporate got involved, and even though we were post warranty, they covered 60% of the cost. We also added on a transmission cooler to help us with our towing (we have a small travel trailer).

    Good evening scotty.
I love a lot of your material.
I'm precisely looking into buying a pilot,so this video was perfectly timed.i live in chicago so for handling of all the snow, would you recommend the front wheel over the 4wheel drive?
