The devil (wrong name/term/understanding/meaning) never used the serpent to speak through. You do not simply understand "serpent". God said ALL fruit yielding trees are good for food. It was the serpent who asked a simple question, and because they had not taken the fruit of that tree, they could not discern whether it was good or not in the first place. To be made in their likeness and image, we must become wise... to learn discernment. What does the Tree of Knowledge of 'Good' & 'Evil' provide? Gen 3:6 - "... and a tree to be desired to make WISE, she took of the fruit..." If discernment is knowing what is 'good' and 'evil', then is it not the fruit of that tree? Would the Tree then not be Wisdom (whom is feminine as He is the Tree of Life - masculine)? "Do you not know you are gods?": "knowing what is 'good' and 'evil'?" There was no reason to for Him to ask 'WHERE' they were when He already knew. They did not repent of their ways and only became further from our Father when Adam blamed Eve, and then Eve blamed the serpent and led to man living shorter and shorter times the farther away from Him we walked. The serpent will be used to teach. If we cannot fathom the depths of wickedness, how can we understand the heights of Righteousness? There is so much more understanding to the Staff with bronze serpent; in which those whom have been bitten (deceived) look upon the serpent HE chose to use, then they were healed. Why did they face these sufferings in the first place? All they did was complain, murmur, and wanted to go back. God IS the reason for the 'evil' in our lives - those are His words. Man cannot even perceive and understand the things in their own physical lives, what in the world makes man think they can perceive and understand HIS things? It is a representation of what was, is, and will be to come. Salvation through trials and tribulation in Christ. Is He not the one coming to immerse His believers in His Fire and Holy Spirit?

One thing worth noting is that Ancient Greek historians have noted a breed of flying snakes that would migrate by the thousands in this area. Their skeletons could be found there for quite some time after each migration and if they swooped down and bit you, your affected area felt like it was on fire due to the venom.

I have always had difficulty understanding why God would use a serpent of all things, but your explanation explained it and gave an excellent rational. Thank you for simplifying this concept.
Using a serpent to represent the coming messiah...why? It was a serpent acting like the devil who started all this mischief and the Israelites in the wilderness would have known that. So how does it make sense that they understood the bronze serpent represents a future messiah? I am struggling to see the connection, considering none of the other prophecies concerning Jesus' fate had yet been written... I can see how Moses, with his bronzed serpent, may have offered it as a symbolic gesture reflecting the need for his people to crucify their own lower, base nature. To suspend and overcome their carnal, animalistic minds. Though the Jesus connection...? Please explain how that could have been made by the wandering Hebrews all those thousands of years ago.
It doesn't represent Jesus Christ it just foreshadowed Jesus on cross , the serpent on the pole signifies the cursed defeated and dead serpent by which Israelites were to look at in faith like saying in their hearts " you're defeated you serpent you have no power over me " , but the image of Jesus on the cross signifies that curse , sin and death are defeated through death of Jesus on cross and whoever repents and believes in him may live

The bronze serpent signify Jesus on the cross taking the judgement of our sin. Although he came down as a man (as the form of a serpent) he lived a sinless life-bronze serpent.

In the army on a bivouac, a man harassed me about a snake in the deep grass between my feet as we rested. He pressured I pic it up and see if it was a rattler. I grabbed it and thru it up in the air and toward him, where it landed on him. He went from Joe tough talker to an 8 year old in terror. It was then we could see, yes, it was a rattler. Elder brother, you would have died on the spot if in either of our positions, Ha!

@@Peekaboo-Kitty so it’s too much for me to type here and would require a lot of research, I’ve spent so much time looking into the Bible and what it really means + its ties to spiritual awakening/parallels to ancient Eastern concepts that were around long before the Bible and long before the proposed time of the life of Christ. A good place to start if you want to know more, look up Nehushtan. That is the name of the bronze serpent statue/idol that YHWH instructed Moses to build to protect the Israelites from the fiery serpents in the book of Numbers, chapter 21. YHWH originally sent these fiery serpents to punish the Israelites for speaking out against Him, but when Moses begged for mercy, YHWH said that if he built this idol, the Israelites will “see it and be protected from the serpents”, “and the children of Israel burned incense to the brazen serpent that Moses had made, and it was called Nehushtan” (2 Kings chapter 18). Sounds a lot to me like worshipping an idol, first and foremost. Secondly, look at the parallel between the Nehushtan and the staff of Hermes, it is undeniable. For the record I am a Christian. I just strongly take the position that there’s so much misinterpretation and confusion that is going on about what the Bible and what Christ was REALLY trying to get across. The parallels between Jesus and Horus and Krishna + more I can’t even remember, it’s a story (in my opinion some allegory some literal) of a savior figure, repeated over and over through the cycles of time. We aren’t meant to be able to understand it unless you go in deep. That’s what will be eventually the driving force for us all to REALLY “be like Christ” and evolve our consciousness and thinking patterns towards GOOD and LIGHT, doing all things in LOVE, because in the end that’s what God is ♥️

Agreed. I think the problem has to do with how many layers there are to interpret. He deals with a couple sides of it, and not completely and not nearly enough to satisfy, but that's mostly because it's so complicated. Christ compares himself to the serpent on the pole, basically says he is that serpent and I think that's connected to Christ becoming a curse; the Sinless became sin for humanity, the divine Order of the Logos became Chaos, and that's what heals us - in ancient symbolism, the snake was seen as that which corrupts or poisons, but also heals, makes whole.
Carl Jung caught onto this and says precisely that over and over, Jonathan Pageau says the same and of course Jordan Peterson does too, as a Jungian. Antivenom and many healing remedies were/are created using snake venom, and it's this understanding that led to us creating vaccines and medicines from the disease itself - the flu shot is a tiny dose of the flu essentially, either inactivated virus particles or live but weakened influenza virus, for example.
That's one additional layer, but it's not enough, there are many more, especially when you dig into the deeper meaning of the serpent of change/transformation coiled on the pole; ascending up this pole that represents stability, order, faith in many contexts. I do think he's right to connect this symbol to the story of Aaron's rod transforming into the snake - they're closely related, as is Christ on the Cross. (John 3:14)

No, it represents knowledge and truth. Valuable knowledge. “ As Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the son of man be lifted up, that whomsoever believeth on him should not die but have everlasting life.”..I encourage you to read genesis, it is common thought that the serpent lied to eve. But if you really read it you will see that the serpent didn’t lie at all. “God” is a title that many beings have taken in the past. Not all of them are good and not all of them are evil. I got that first quote from the book of John. That is the only book that accurately shows Jesus’s life and purpose for being here on earth. This earth is a strange one, I know what I have said is unusual and outside of the norm. The choice is up to you (Whether you want to believe me or not) 🙃

I want to know about the snake being used by the medical field as a symbol of healing. I thought it was a bad symbol. But now that you said the snake Represents Jesus, that has me thinking that snakes usually mean evil. How does evil represent Christ?
Good question, comes up a bunch. First, the medical symbol’s origin isn’t Jewish or Christian imo. Second, evil doesn’t represent Christ and vice a versa. 1 Corinthians 5:21 “God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.” Jesus quoted Psalm 22, “My God, My God, why have you forsaken me. The quote of 1 Cor 5:21 answers this. The moment Jesus was on the cross God made a trade, a great deal for us and a sacrifice for him. He allowed Christ to become, in that moment, the bearer of all mankind’s sin. He took pleasure in bruising him as the fiery serpent, that He represented in this trade. The serpent is cursed since the garden of Eden. Our curse was cast on Christ on the cross. “For freedom Christ has set you free”. Free from that curse.

How does someone confused a stiff serpent with a wooden staff? Surely you couldn't lean on a stiff snake or use it as a walking stick. Also why would Pharaoh wait 5-10 minutes watching a stiff snake become mobile again? Why do Christians refer to the serpent as 'the standard'?
Basically, most of these act off their emotions and really cant understand or accept something that seem weird or unusuable to them.
The brass serpent was one of the many foreshadowing events that the Messiah must fulfill!

I wonder how long it took to make a bronze serpent while people were dying.
The bronze snake could of already been made. Moses and the slaves were given valuable gifts on their way out of Egypt according to scripture. Seems like the Pharoah wanted to get rid of the Children of God on good terms.
I believe the Scripture says God told him to "make a bronze serpent".
But how did Moses make a bronze serpent in the middle of the desert? Its likely that one of the valuables given to them was a snake-like jewelry. The "making" part would've only consisted of moses mounting it on to a pole. Also, when Moses went up to the mountain to recieve the commandments, the people were worshipping a Gold bull-calf. I believe you are in error because of not knowing the word of God, no offense. The Scripture says to "make a bronze serpent" & fix it on a pole or whatever. I don't have time right now to look up the verses, but God also instructed the people how to make the Ark of the Covenant (Ex. 25:1-22). Israel was like many thousands of people, they obviously had the utensils to heat gold in the fire & mold it. Beware speculation over the Word. God's Word is not far fetched. Exodus 32 tells us the people petitioned Aaron to make a golden calf & that he took jewelry from them to make it. You must be firmly rooted in Scripture. This world is filled with distracting speculation that detract from the Truth.
You are not using Logic. Do you know how much Gold would've been needed to create the Ark of Covenant? Atleast 120 pounds of Gold based on its dimensions!

I know what it meant, when we are searching for answers and it seems that no one can fully answer your questions. But in this case I would suggest you (if you are a believer in Christ /born again Christian) to ask God. HE who knows everything will answer your questions which gnaw you day and night. Ask and you shall receive. In this fallen world we are living, we will never be able to understand everything completely. One of the reasons why God told Moses to lift a bronze serpent (why serpent) because the serpent is cursed by God Genesis 3v14-15, it is subject to curse, disease and evil. The image of the serpent lifted on the pole is Jesus, because Jesus lifted on the cross became a curse, because he carried your sins and all the sins of the world on him and God strikes him because he has became sin. So that when we look to Jesus and believe in him, we can receive healing for our bodies but also for our souls. Maybe this humble part answer might help. Now for bronze serpent I do not have an accurate answer but the Bible says in Numbers 21v6 "And the LORD sent fiery serpents among the people". Gold and silver, much more likely to produce an idol worship reaction. Also, not so easy to procure on the spot as the refining process required more exacting steps to accomplish.

This part of The Book of Numbers Chapter 21 and 22 gives me another information about being cured from Sin, what do I mean by that is when you've got bitten by a Venomous Snake (Sin in this Context) you will be Sick and destroyed, but they (Y'Israelites) confessed their sins and Repent (By Looking At The Bronze Serpent) because they disrespect The Most High Yah.
