- PPIHC Record 11:24.065 diesel run by Scott Birdsall in Old Smokey F1. The previous record was held by Factory Mercedes Benz in an AWD diesel touring car at 11:37:xx
Smokey ran amazing until the start of Devil's Playground, when the engine coolant reached 250 degrees, putting the ECU into limp mode. This reduces power to under 300hp, and slowed my run considerably. Luckily, the times on the first 2/3 of the course were fast enough to secure the record. Had there truck not overheated, this would have been in the 10:40's. The Boxeer TDI racer, was a mere 1 second behind us, also eclipsing the previous record. Great racing this year!

@Niklas Ciesluk Incorrect. That is the 4" titanium exhaust stack. My truck runs nearly smokeless.
Doc is right. This thing was tuned to perfection. You could really see and hear when she started to struggle against the altitude though.

@@gizmo98632 - Well, there was a racing transport truck in the last couple years that was super-turbo IIRC.
Hell of a run even if the truck went into limp mod. Even more impressive considering this truck's race tune runs cleaner than most people's street truck.
thats bc most peoples street trucks are tuned for show, not for actual power.

Helluva run! That puppy is a torque beast! You couldn't mash too hard coming out the turns because she'd break loose and kick out! Brakes performed beautiful it seemed. That 2 turbo set up works just like you said, freak'n snappy....Holy Moly! I would love to see that data on how the engine performed as you went up in elevation. Awesome awesome run🙌🏿🙌🏿🙌🏿👌🏾

Somewhere just before the 6:00 mark, it started getting too sketchy for me. The courage it takes to accelerate like that... when all you see is a road that appears to fly you off the side the mountain. I can't even finish watching... much less consider the cajones it takes to drive it at those speeds.
I love it! Now thats nicely tuned!! Rolling coal is so not necessary. Just a waste of fuel and money! My opinion.

Honestly to think that the 10-11 minute range used to be the fastest hillclimb cars went 20-30 yrs ago, albeit Pikes Peak was entirely dirt

Love how Whistlin diesel trashes FASS because their duramax kits aren’t the absolute best option but a FASS lift pump on a 6.7 Cummins… 😙🤌 love paying $60 for a filter change and also being able to rely on the fuel being where it’s supposed to be.
