Korg NTS-1: Exploring Lead Sounds

  • Korg's NTS-1 is a fantastic little digital mono-synth with built in FX. It's teeny-tiny, but with a sound that belies its size. In this video we spend some time exploring lead sounds, getting a feel for the synth's character and how to get to those sounds. We'll also explore the FX section and, naturally, drench some of our sounds in big ambient delays and reverbs.
    In this video we only look at the default oscillators and FX that come with the synth - we'll dive into some of the 3rd party user oscillators and FX in a future video.

    Amazing sound demo!
    Btw, there are more parameters to the "waves"-oscillator.
    You find them by holding osc-button and then turning the encoder counter-clockwise one click.
    The display will show :"wave a" (if you wait for the text to scroll by)
    Then turn the encoder clockwise to scroll through the following parameters :
    "wave a"
    "wave b"
    "sub wave"
    ”sub m,h"
    "ring m,h"
    "bit crush"
    At this point you want a midi controller with programmable encoders I guess.

    Dear Oscillator Sink; I bought the NTS-1 expecting to connect it to my AKAI MPK MINI but, as you probably know, they're not compatible out of the box. Could you please, please, please give me some tips on how to proceed. Ideally an option through my MacBook and another computer-independent. Thank you so much in advance!!

    • @OscillatorSink
      @OscillatorSink  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      With your MacBook you could set up routing within a DAW - but that's something you'll need to go to the manual to work out as I'm not familiar with all DAWs. Stand alone what you want is a USB Midi Host (and the midi adapter for the NTS-1). That would probably be more or less plug and play.

    Does the Keystep Need a Computer to be connected to. In fact do most MIDI controllers need a computer buffer. Recommendations for best basic Midi Controller for controlling External synths? Does the Keystep have Poly Aftertouch?

    • @OscillatorSink
      @OscillatorSink  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You only need a computer to configure it (and if you're just using it for midi, you might never need to do that at all), it runs stand-alone other than that. In fact, it'll run off a USB battery pack so you can even take it out and about.

    • @OscillatorSink

      The aftertouch is better than you'd expect for the price. I have a more expensive keyboard with aftertouch that's noticeably worse than the Keystep!

      I'm not entirely sure what all of this means - maybe lost in translation a bit?
      But when you buy it it comes as a kit - but all of the electronics are complete - there's no soldiering. It's more like putting together something from IKEA.
