I saw someone else mention the “Fireproof” movie and that there is a book that goes with it. I HIGHLY recommend you guys watching the movie and getting the book “The Love Dare” that goes along with the movie. You can of course get it on Amazon or any Christian bookstore. It seriously saved my husband and my marriage. There is biblical references in the book that show you how each task you are assigned relates to certain passages from the Bible. The book teaches you so many skills to make and keep and healthy, happy marriage! We now watch the movie every New Year’s Day as a refresher to start off our new year in a good place.
I think you guys are being so brave in sharing such intimate parts of yourselves and your marriage. I hope you realize that in doing so you are creating a wonderful outlet for your viewers who may also be going through similar things in their life. It will allow others to relate, connect and learn from each other. You guys should do like a separate series or something. Like “Marriage Monday’s” or something like that. Thank you again so much for talking about this and sharing. My husband and I are praying for you guys and cheering you along from afar!

We love you guys. It is good to see a couple who is trying and being honest and not being all fake and just give up. My Husband and I just celebrated our 30th anniversary. I was 17 when we married, he was 19. Relationships do change over the years but always make time for each other and don't give up. So proud of you both.

Mine was almost identical, only Words Of Affirmation was my lowest and receiving Gifts was my second lowest. My husband is almost the polar opposite of me. His highest is Receiving Gifts and his lowest is Physical Touch, while my highest is Physical Touch and lowest is Words Of Affirmation. Crazy how that works lol.

    Long post. Sorry.
I love these sit down videos about love and marriage. My husband and I got married in October and we never want to forget to make out relationship a priority and just to think about these things even if we are newlyweds and we aren't struggling.
When we met three and a half years ago we were also total opposites for our love languages. Gifts were really big for him, while acts of service was big for me. We really learned how to cater to each other's language (I'd leave him love notes around the house or bring him a special snack from the store). That's one of that things that made me fall in love with him actually. I was living with a roommate and he came over and fixed some things around the house because he knew how much it would mean to me. Now these languages are still important to us, but we have found a common language in physical touch. Years ago, neither of us would have said physical touch. We're not touchy/feely people. Except with each other apparently. We're only like that when we're alone and at home though. So when we touch or hug, it feels like our own private language. And that's something that's organically grown over our relationship.
Sending you both so much love and prayers. I love these videos! It's so good to reflect so we can go forward confidentially into the future.

We took it we had to adjust a bit because I am in hospice and not well but we did it as if I wasn’t sick. We almost matched but this is 18 years menopause between two of us and also caring for her Mother and Brother when they were both sick and dying. It breaks my heart knowing I am leaving her as well but when we took the test of course we started chatting about the past and how different and so alike we both are. I learned a long time ago that she would find little presents for me or little things she remembered I liked and in the past it drove me crazy because I wanted her attention and affection but she was busting but in an OR I was taking care of children all day and we came home to two family members one older and a drinker and one who was very sick and she was trying so hard to keep a balance. It’s amazing what you see when you try to look through the person you can’t imagine living without eyes and why they do the things they do and how you grow and change and sometime boom your end up slammed into a cement wall and as much as you want to get over it or around it you have to work together to figure out how to get over. Thanks for adding the link and forcing us to look again and remember even though I am ill and not here for much longer I will be able to do a little bit more for her in my time I have left that will be more meaningful to her in this timeframe. Does that make sense? I want to do the most for her while I can. Off to make her a chocolate eggcream don’t ask it’s a weird Brooklyn thing I think chocolate milk with seltzer water? But she loves them so thank you 💜🐢

My husband scored: 9 Quality Time, 8 Acts of Service, 8 Physical Touch, 5 Words of Affirmation and 0 Recieving Gifts
We didn’t really agree with what the tests results were for us, but taking the test helped us to see what areas we need to work on. We are going to post our charts up somewhere in our house so that we can make an effort to work on things we need to for each other. It may save my sanity and relationship with my husband so we appreciate you sharing this link. We’ve been “working” on our marriage since we got married. Now we can actually see what we need to do to think about the other person and it won’t be as hard of work trying to remember with this chart posted in our face. 😁 We’ve needed this for sooooo long!!!!

I'm 23 and I've been married for 6 years. I got married st 17 before I graduated high school. There are so many people I went to high school with that have been married and divorced already. I feel like people my age expect marriage to just be a walk in the park and that they will never have to work at it. I think a lot of that is because they see people online that "have it so easy" and think if their marriage isn't like that they shouldn't even try. My marriage has been far from perfect and there have been times we have talked about calling it quits but when we got married that was it for me. I always said I would only be married once and I truly mean that. I think y'all being open about having problems in your marriage will show people that it's not always easy and marriage takes work from both people. So thank you for being honest about everything.

Hi Katie and Cullen :) just wanted to tell you guys how much I appreciated and enjoyed this video. I am struggling in my relationship right now. This video really helped. I took the love language "quiz" and my love language is gift giving. I don't think I am a materialistic person, but for me personally, I LOVE to be thought of and feeling important. Growing up, I never felt like a priority, first choice, or favorite to anyone. So I think that is why that is "gift giving" is important to me.. :)

I am so glad you guys got back into the love languages! My hubby and I for married last June, we did the love languages for premarital counseling. Mine has slightly changed from being married to my ex and being with my current hubby. My top isn't different but next one changed and it is stronger.
I am words of affirmation, physical touch mainly. A little in acts of service and quality time. I was more quality time before. I think ptsd from the abuse changed it. Physical touch makes me feel safe and reminds me I am. ❤
My hubby is physical touch as number 1. Acts of service, quality time and words of affirmation were all low. Gifts weren't on ours. Lol
Love you guys and glad you are working through these things and sharing the journey! It will help so many couples. ❤

Hi Cullen and Katie I just want to say that the hardest thing to do in the world is to live a life. Life isn't about net worth its about the best person you can become. Showing and teaching your kids its okay to ask for help when you need it. Be proud of who you are. God will always give you trials and tribulations he will never give you more than you can handle. He will always test your faith. Believing in him and his words even when the light doesn't shine inside. You have a village draw from there strength, take one day one step at a time and you will see the light inside. Let the past go. Your Dad would want you to live a good life. Celebrate his life his birthday. A house is where you make memories it doesn't define you. You can't change everything but the things you can change them. Say a kind word to each other everyday, when your sad when you can't make a vlog when your mad always talk or just ask for a hug no words need to be spoken. I once said you need to have your house checked for mildew and mold in the walls. Have the house blessed. Just one more thing a date night doesn't mean you have to go out and do something you could stay in the house hang out in your underwear cook for each other go to sleep feel relaxed it doesn't have to be stressful hang in there keep the faith believe in God he will pull you through we will keep you in our prayers. Love you guess

Oh man, taking these two tests helped me realize how much these languages relate to certain seasons in life. All 29 years of my life I've been a single pringle. But my results during college compared to now are drastically different.
In college my top love languages were: physical touch and gifts. Now my top love languages are Quality Time & Acts of Service which are both a 10. And physical touch is my bottom one with a five. Granted I would still say my physical touch cup has been running dry, on account on not having much of community lately. Having most of my friends being married and having babies makes it hard to find community that has time for you. (Even tho i have a flexible schedule for meeting with them.)
Its all a different kind of balance of life priorities that decides what my love languages are.

I think I really need this more than ever because it's been so long since I been in a relationship and married and I wonder if I've lost some of the thing's I use to do but lost entrust in my ex-husband because of everything and lack of him in our marriage, and not trusting. Maybe I need to stop and look at myself and work on me and I might find the right best friend for me. I got a few note books that I can write down my goals for myself and watch how I change my life for the better. And be happier!😊😉 I definitely have a hard time with affection and touching people so I think that and verbal communication skills might be low and I need to work on those. I wish I was more affectionate! I just don't know how to be like that. I'm always hot 😳 so I don't want to get close to anyone. I'm trying to be better and stronger for myself. Thank you Katie and Colin for this. I think this will help me as well. Yes, I'm single. ☺💕

My fiance and I have taken this quiz consistently at least once a year if not every 6 months. It keeps us actively aware and making sure we are always focusing on serving each other! My results make me laugh. I got a 10 for Acts of Service and the other four have a score of 5. Clearly there is a way to my heart! Now my fiance's top results are Words of Affirmation and Physical Touch (one I really struggle with!). It's really helped us get to know each other more and prepare for married life

I haven't taken the quiz yet, but I think I'm probably quality time first, then acts of service, physical touch, words of affirmation, and gifts last.

One of the things I have been working on is anger or snapping back. My husband was showing his anger and instead of snapping back or being angry back. I chose to not in gage or say anything back. Was surprised how easy it was to not in gage and not having to argue. Right or wrong just was nice to not have that . I felt much better by not doing it.

I took the quiz for singles. Quality time and physical touch were my #1 & #2. It's important to know what your love language is whether you're single or not. Even in friendships, knowing how you want to be loved helps to keep any relationship strong. Going on 20 years with some of my best friends, and at 30 that doesn't really happen. People grow up and grow apart, but when we know how each other wants to be loved, it's a big deal! I love that you guys did this and are growing in love with each other. It's something I aspire to do in my future relationships.

My husband and I just finished our love languages! I am a 9 on Quality Time and Physical Touch being a 7. My husband is a 9 on Acts of Service and an 8 on Words of Affirmation. It's so neat to do this and normally what your spouse is complaining about is just a plea for their love tank to be filled in a way that makes them feel loved. It really gives you more patience and understanding of the other person. My favorite quote: It is great to be loved but it is profound to be understood. So happy yall did this and I'm excited to see how it transforms your marriage. I'm excited for William to return home so we can continue for this to transform our marriage! Much love! ❤

Really appreciate your candidness and your ability to teach as well as learn through some very disappointing aspects of life....I know you guys love each other and will work hard at learning what gets in the way of progress in keeping close and not reading into the misunderstandings but to dig deeper...and your ability to laugh together and yet still address the hard things is key. Another good tool that we found particulary revealing and helped us understand some things we just couldnt figure out...was Les and Leslie Parrots assesment tests...really couldnt believe how indepth and on point it was. One thing that you hinted at and I also realized is even though you learn alot about the other person there is still need to explain the findings about yourself to the other person because they might jump to conclusions of what that answer to question meant. Its a lifetime of staying in touch and understanding that needing to grow individually is not unloving or to be taken wrong...but its also very important not to read into things but to ask questions of the person of what it means to them. I think its alot easier to show affection or say words of affirmation over acts of service which seems like such a wide range of possibilities...but then again maybe no words or touch works if your looking for specific things...so its good to keep ears open and ask questions....its a great thing when people say, I want to tell you and show you how much I love you and Im just not sure what you need the most...can you help me learn...wow....just letting that person know you want to knock there socks off the way they love...says a lot.

Loved the fireside chat! My husband and I are the reverse of you guys. He's physical touch; I'm acts of service...and it certainly causes problems when we forget that. It's legit work to cater to your spouse's needs, especially when they're different from your own, and you're tired from working and taking care of little kids, etc etc.

Mine is words of affirmation. I don't have a significant other right now, but I love hearing couples talk about their struggles and successes. I feel like it gives me tools to keep in my back pocket for when that time does come. That being said I vote for a regular marriage segment on your channel! Just from the comments you can tell how many people your story has already impacted.

Loved this vlog so much. After 19 years together 16 married and 3 kids ranging from 18 years 13 years and 8 years old we have been having a tough time lately. Throw in 18 yo daughter that has a boyfriend that has many of his own family issues that affect her that therefore affect us. I just took the test and got 10 physical touch
7 for every thing else except a 0 for gift giving. I think my hubby may be reluctant to take it but who knows he may surprise me and if he will it will be interesting to see how we differ. Love you guys ❤️

Hi guys!! Even before taking it I knew that my love language it was acts of service... because that's how I show love to people and when people does things for me that they don't need to, it means the world for me... one time I was dating this guy (nothing serious) and the exciment was fading away and by that time I was dealing with some legal stuff, and he went to a different lawyer and asked about my situation without even telling me... when he told me what he did, I felt loved and care. I GOT A 10 in Acts of service
    8 in words of affirmation
    6 quality time
    4 physical touch
    1 receiving gift

I just took the quiz online, I have the book but haven't gotten around to reading it all. I scored an 11 on words of affirmation! Wow. It makes sense because just yesterday I put myself down after complimenting my husband on kind of father he is through text by saying he's married to an idot due to a typo I made. He told me he's married to an amazing mother and wife. I actually started sobbing. It meant the world to me to see him say that! I can't wait for him to get home so I can tell him to take the quiz!

My top one (scored a 9) was spending quality time. I just like to be around people and I get really upset when I feel like I'm being left out of something. It's followed by words of affirmation (8), physical touch (6), acts of service (6), then lastly receiving gifts (1). I'm going to have to have my SO take it later, I'm interested to see how it compares because we do see stuff like that differently and I think there is some truth behind it

I didn’t even think about taking it again. We did it about 10 years ago and now that I think about it I’m sure mine has changed. My top ones were physical touch & acts of service. Not so sure my top would be physical touch anymore. Acts of service gets me every time though. I crave it!!!

My boyfriends is 9 physical touch, 9 quality time, 5 acts of service, 5 words of affirmation, 2 receiving gifts. So he has pretty much all the different types even.
Mine is 9 Acts of service, 9 quality time, 5 receiving gifts, 4 words of affirmation, 3 physical touch.
Physical touch if a big difference for us, which we already knew, but didnt realize how big of a deal it really was. But we have quality time the same.
My boyfriend didnt mind to take it. I sent him the link and he took it without me asking.😍 I thibk with knowing this, and how we feel love is different, it will help us build a strong relationship. So thank you for sharing your life, through your struggles, but through you success too.

Thank you for being so open and honest about your struggles and your journey. You're an amazing couple. This video prompted a great conversation between my husband and I and we both took the test.
    My husband scored:
    10 physical touch
    8 acts of service
    7 quality time
    5 words of affirmation
    0 receiving gifts
I on the other hand scored:
    8 words of affirmation
    8 quality time
    7 acts of service
    6 physical touch
    1 receiving gifts
We had a long talk about how true this is and how important it is to us to communicate about what makes us feel love.
We enjoy your videos and I enjoy your fireside chats! 😊
