I've been living here for 20 years and some of these are new to me too. However, in meetings here even in office ones, people use their phones instead. It's as equally disrespectful. Probably the office meetings are usually pointless and can be summarised in an email.
Most (not all) of these are silly if you are a SICURE, MATURE , COFRIDENT individual and don't have emotional control problems. If fact when ones takes offence it is actually a very narcissistic act, any way you look at it. The world does not revolve around you or your culture. What one takes offensive it is always about insecurities. Otherwise you would not be offended. I find people that are offended this easy weak, insecure, very immature. It's only a threat to you because you are insecure with yourself. But good to know, your video helps others get along in Arab countries. Personally, I had no idea Arab countries were this sensitive to being offended. Personally, nothing turns me off faster then someone who get offended easily, like waling on glass and it's so unattractive being that insecure. No doubt many will be offended to such rationality.
All of those things u said even I was in Qatar for 3 years I am still ignorance to all of that, I was thought It was just nothing, now alhamdulilah I know that some of my actions which fine and it's ok for us but it's insult for all of u, shukran for giving us information... I grew up in Kuwait and I've never come across insult number two about placing the hand behind the neck. Could someone explain what exactly is insult number two.
It is similar to some cultures when you pat someone's head. If you do it to friends, they might not be offended. It can also be a way of endearment amongst people who are close. But if you do it in a formal setting or to someone you don't know, it is offensive.
Depends on your agreement. Some companies will pay for it and say you have to pay expenses back if you decide to quit within a certain time after they’ve invested in bringing you over
