- Two head sails GONE! While crossing the INDIAN OCEAN we blow out one sail and the tension cord broke in another. But even with theses problems, the highlight of the trip was encountering a friend at sea, Fou de Bassan. Fou is an Allure 52 and we crossed paths on the Captain's birthday.

Loved your sailing ❤
Wow! One of your best videos yet. My wife normally only watches your video in bits as she gets ready for work. Not this morning. She sat and watched it all. Sailing is rarely champagne and caviar and we could really feel the tension/pressure on board. We could even see the pressures on the the ever cool, calm and collected Pierre's face. Sailing is several parts anxiety and a few parts heaven.
Your 5X is so fast. One of the best boats ever made. We were treated to a show of how fast she is when you came so close to the other boat mid ocean.
We could also see how essential crew are for a safe passage on a boat your size and in such testing conditions, and it looks like your greenhorn did really well. Of course Pierre could slow down a little bit.....ahahaha. Well we now have photographic proof of Pierre double reefing.
Sorry to Luma about our immigration. I hope she doesn't take it personally. They made my wife leave the country 5 times to renew her visitor visa before granting her a non worker, 2 year, "temporary" residence visa. Australia is very strict.
Anyway, thanks so much for the work you put in to sharing your adventure with us
I appreciate you comments! I thought of cutting down the at sea boat footage but then decided to keep all I had. After all, these videos are about sailing and I make them for us to watch later in life (hopefully!). I Hope you guys get some quality time on the water!
Enjoyed….sail repairs/ new sails coming! Great videography, thanks, Andrew
More to come!
Great movie! I love to see the passages - challenging and interesting.
It really is!
This looks like quite a challenging one but, as usual, you handled it like pros. I'm glad you arrived safely. Man, y'all have covered some ocean since we last saw you! Hugs to all and pats for Tiller.
Thanks 👍
Mauritius to Cape Town was just as challenging but for different reasons. Too much wind/current or no wind.
Yay you made it! What a voyage across the Indian Ocean! Great teamwork! Good idea to have the Net Jib!.
Now the Atlantic!
Superb video of mid ocean waves. Very well caught on camera, best ever on TH-cam in my opinion. Thanks once again. Two reef Pierre.
Many thanks. Glad you enjoy it. It shows the power of the ocean and how these boats are built to handle it.
So Pierre took two reefs! I think he's getting old...🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 Sorry for the sail.😪😪😪😪😪😪
We have a new one just the same. We will take baby of it!
😎
👍
We hope all is well on Falcon
Beautiful video. Thanks for putting in the whole sail by clip with pleasant music!
About how many yrs/miles was the genaker? Thanks!
Four 1/2 years, almost 40,000 nautical miles. We had it stitched and repaired many times to keep it in top shape.
@@biotreksailing Thanks for sharing! If you ever need a video idea, a 'gear' review of equipment and strategies, including sails. I know you sometimes slip this into videos. We are decided between radial cut and membrane sails right now for our Balance 526 build. If we do membrane it'd be Doyle Stratis 1100. Thanks again for sharing!
Great video- thanks! I would love to hear a lot of detail on the autopilot limitations. Was it merely related to the very confused sea state moving the boat in too many directions? Or was it related at all to any programming (gain, response) issues? I don’t know what are the limits of an autopilot system like yours in those conditions so I don’t know what is normal/expected. Thanks!
Related to confused seas and gusty rapidly changing wind wind direction and force. The auto is really good. On a Catana we sailed in rough seas 15 years ago we had to hand steer in such conditions but maybe auto pilots are better now a days.
