Sorry for the camera not focusing properly while I was playing 😅 I accidentally moved the focus point 😬

Both are great sounding pickups, with a TON of punch!
But the Alnico pickup just had that extra bit of special sauce! 😂

The Neo' pickups may lack top end but they have a high-mid presence and sound faster-response than the Alnico. I prefer the Alnico pickup (probably because I like a classic sounding P Bass and these surprised me at how close they sound to that) and with their low mid bump probably sit in a mix in the same great way that a P does. Superb playing as usual!

Yeah. They Neos also feel more compressed when playing, which helps to even out your playing. Their midrange growl is also cool :)

to me, the growliness on the open string is more pronounced in the Alnico, and has a more modern vibe. I think either set of pickups is fine. I had a 2009 Dingwall AB Z test mule with the first version of the neo P pickup, and thought it sound really good. The Alnicos bring the P tone into today's vibe. Very cool

Ohh nice story about the ABZ! I also used to own one back in 2009-2010 until i had to sell it due to a pinky injury in 2014

Neo more compressed and even. Alnico has a low mid pokey character, sounds like I can hear the finger/pick stroke more.
Neo:Alnico / Modern:vintage to my ears, both are great.
Would be awesome to hear how they blend with rear pickup. Great bass playing and sound quality!

I preferred the Alnico as I like that slightly hollow sound, however the Neo pickup was very smooth sounding and nice in the mix.

I just assumed a P-tone was alnico, since it was designed to emulate a P bass. Both pickups sound great, as is expected from Dingwall, but I think the Alnico has a little more vintage P bass character. Bodes well for the new import Super P if it will be equipped with these pickups.

Neo is a much stronger and lighter magnet 🧲 that doesn’t necessarily mean “better” in a pickup. Neodymium usually benefit speakers and cabinets since they are drastically lighter.
Both are great but there is about the Alnico’s mids and warmth. Maybe we are so used to that sound. It sounds right.

Alnico sounds soooo much better to me. Kudos to Dingwall for offering it.

The alnicos have a little more clarity, but more clarity isn’t always better. I actually prefer the neos for their top-end smoothness

      The neos are also great!

I preferred the Alnico, but the difference is so subtle, I probably couldn't tell the difference once it's in the mix.

At 1:50, you mentioned that these pickups are available to purchase, but I can't seem to find the listing on their website. Where can we buy them? Is there a link?

I did like the alnico more, more high end detail which I prefer. Both sound great tho.

I heard a slight increase in clarity in Alnico and a slightly deeper bottom on the neodymium but the difference is almost undetectable and would probably make just about zero difference in the grand scheme of things.

Ok, I’ve made up my mind. I honestly think that I actually prefer the Neodymium 😅 😂 *And that makes me only guy in the comments who appears to do so* 😂
