"The first pancake is for the pan" - similar attribute in my household, the first pancake is for the cook 😄 Your energy and enthusiasm is infectious, thanks for showing your work and hopefully I can be less precious about my own sketchbooks going forward

I'm obsessed with your ladies omg, I LOVE their shapes. I also really love how you're completely unbothered when some look a lil crazy proportion wise, whereas I have a bad habit of ripping my art to shreds (metophorically....most of the time lol). I aspire to reach your level of chill!

Aww thank you! You learn something from every drawing you, and more from the ones that go wrong. Art is all about the process anyway, the outcome is incidental. Just keep drawing! 😻✍️🖌️

I love your sketchbook flip through. Looking forward to part 2. Mixed media is so much fun! I am also a fan of sunflowers and irises. 😊

Your sketchbook is really inspiring! I have trouble letting go of “perfection” in mine, and I end up just freezing up or not doing anything. It is so helpful to see artists share warmups/practice/experiments. ❤️

Thank you so much! Perfectionism is such a pain in the bum - I feel you. You could try buying a special sketchbook that's designated just for bad art i.e. the worst art you can possibly do, and see how you get on with that. Taking the pressure off yourself and just having fun is where the magic happens. Good luck! 😻🖌️🌺

It is helpful to use hog hair brushes for texture. Rough a few of them up for best results. Soft brushes can give texture as well but my preference is the hog hair, Gather other textured things ls like scourers, torn cardboard, combs, scrumpled papers, silicone trivets, nuts, bolts, sandpaper. Splatter paint, be daring! Buy yourself a gelli plate and print papers full of texture to use in your art.

2:26 that quote! To violate one’s own rhythm - how hard do I relate? 😮

Great sketchbook tour, loved the sunflowers and the jug and oranges..just fab!I wonder when you come to try and recreate them on a larger scale,do you ever get frustrated that they’re never quite the same?!Ive often done small sketchbook pieces and thought, why the hell didn’t I do it straight onto a canvas etc lol!You never quite capture the same essence 🤪😆!Really like the bamboo dip pens, did you make those yourself?Just asking as I have a supply in my garden,I’d think they might be quite tricky to do?Anyway, hope you’re getting this lovely warm spell we are getting in England!😎Have a lovely productive week!!❤

Thanks so much! Such a good question about recreating pieces - I think the trick is not to try and recreate a piece verbatim, but to do a new (larger) piece referenced from the original. That way you can keep the energy up and still be open to surprises and happy accidents. The bamboo pens were from Amazon. I couldn't find the exact ones I have but there's a link in the description to some similar ones. Hope you're having a lovely weekend ❤️
