If you want to use the square or round on top, you could use a medium-sized jump ring in the top rectangle hole as well as in the square (or circle) hole and use a small jump ring in the middle. I personally like the single dangle earrings. Nicely done!

I never would have thought of using an emery board to trim. So easy and a lot less jagged than cutting with scissors.
