The worst parts about being a Bagger is when the person unloading the cart takes forever so the items pile up without a place to put them, or when the cart is overfilling and you don’t know where else to put the bags
Bro frrrrr I am perfectly fine with bagging but when they just sit back near the register and force me to have to pile up bags upon bags right next to me it makes it so much harder
have carts by customer service like someplace near the registers so when that situation does arise you can just grab a cart. I’m 17 and i’m grocery stocker but we get called up to bag quite often. I’ve gotten good at that but what’s annoying is front calls me up to bag and the way they scan items so fast really makes me look like a deer in headlights because it all piles up so fast and I have to put like items together and it gets annoying. But when we call Front End up to help stock or block because we are short staffed they only stay for about 10 mins. I’ve literally bagged up front for 3 hours straight because it was thanksgiving. Help goes one way at heinens
Try not to panic if the person scanning the items is sending you a ton per second and the line is long. You'll just have to accept that being slow is normal and practicing over and over will make you faster. Nobody's perfect on the first day. If you make a mistake or tense up just say "Sorry, It's my first day". You'll be surprised by the number of people that understand and give you some encouragement. Take deep breaths, remember you're getting paid and use logic. If you get mean faces or anything just kill em' with kindness. Good luck :)
Same here man. I was alright at bagging when they first threw me out there. I’d like to say I’m a expert now 3 years later. Practice makes perfect folks.
I just got my first job as a bagger recently and i’m so relieved to see that almost all of these are super relatable and that i’m not alone, also really helpful video, I’ll apply these from now on.
Its all about making executive decisions, in real time, where the person bagging is as in much communication with the customers as the cashier. That's the best dynamic. Pair a really talkative courtesy clerk with a really introverted checker lol or vica versa
I changed my bagging tactics over the years. think bakery goods, cigarettes, soft fruits and vegetables and light bulbs are the only things you should worry about not crushing when bagging others groceries. Of course everyone has their way about them. This is a helpful video, but paper and plastic aren’t the only bags that people expect cashiers to use. There are people that come into my work that bring reusable bags and want us to use them.
I'm a cashier and bagger at Giant and I wish The Giant Company (owns Giant/Martins in PA, MD, and VA) switches to only paper and reusable bags. Their plastic bags aren't study enough for groceries, especially glass cans. Saw people put tomato sauce or salsa like Prego, Tostitos, etc. in a single plastic bag and it dropped and broke. That's why I always double bag glass items.
I lay a carton of 🥛 horizontally with something like blocks of 🧈 on the side for extra room + the milk won't roll around, then the 🥚 and lastly put something very light like 🥖 on top.
Those handles would definitely break with that much weight! The ones we have at my store at least. I always double bag of it's something glass. Once I bought a bottle of wine that I really needed after a long day at work and my bag broke and wine and glass were all over my driveway 😑🥺 I was so mad!
This Video was amazing thank you it had all the information i could ever need i love how it was structured in steps easy to follow and understand it was just an awesome video im trying to get a job at Fry's this along with my experience, my food handlers class from high school, my professionalism and politeness when talking to people, and my knowledge of bagging my own groceries and what to do in a kitchen it should be no trouble for me to get a job. Thank you again!
Double bag, I saw a co sacker who did the same thing and handed to a lady and the whole bag broke and all of her groceries fell out..... pls double bag

Or when someone doesn’t organize their stuff and then complains when you mix and match things.

Nobody trained me how to bag on my first day so I felt like a fool while bagging, now I know how to properly bag stuff

Nobody trained me when I bagged today too lol but paper bags are worse than plastic 💯
Had my first day today and also felt silly while packing. I’m looking up these videos so I can get better and faster haha.

LOL THIS IS ME RN but I didn’t start yet
i hate bagging i’m so slow, but like it’s also my first job so i try not to push myself too hard
Sameee maybe when i work at publix as a bagger longer I’ll pick up the speed
I find it best to put the eggs on bottom and then plop a giant watermelon on top.
...It's Pat?
Right!!!
Whatever floats your boat as long as you’re not hurting yourself or others. You’re just hurting the eggs. Lol
NO NO NO. You will break the eggs if you do that. Put the bread under the eggs to act as a pillow. Then put the watermelon.
Then add some raw meat to make the eggs and bread more juicy.

bpalmarino cool hopefully get this job as a sacker
Ryan M haha how did it go 😂 it’s pretty easy once you do it.
Do they train you in that area because I always wondered?
I am privileged to have gone through this training before my job thanks
no double bagging needed. Have you watched home alone when he was carrying the bags and the groceries fell through.
That was the 1990s. I think bags are made stronger now.

Lol I got my first job at a woolies as a cashier (supermarket in Australia) and I'm so slow :(
Hows it going now?
The only bag a real mature woman really needs to truly provide for herhousehold. ❤
My local store has incompetent cashiers so I bag my own
State?
This video was great for 9 years ago, but if you try to pack that much weight into today’s thin, flimsy bags, they rip.
What about milk cartons (not jugs)?
I was told that unfolding the handles increases the sheer strength and reduces the risk of tearing. Just flip them up.
This was very helpful! Thank you so much!
So helpful thankyou
I’m the best bagger at my job and I have good customer service ❤
If have a paper bag, why don't have rubber bag ? Rubber water resistant, can be used repeatedly, safe tree, can recycle... i just say what my opinion
Match Setup because it would be expensive
I hate bagging so bad!! I feel like I’ll never get good at it.
Double bag, I saw a co sacker who did the same thing and handed to a lady and the whole bag broke and all of her groceries fell out..... pls double bag
i feel like a robot
Same
This most dumbest thing ever we in europe let costumers bag there own stuff.
