Bought a Fujifilm X100F a month ago to replace my ancient Sony 'point and shoot' digital compact camera. I was attracted to it by the numerous positive reviews, the really cool 'vintage/retro' look and feel, and the general substantial feel in my hands. I wanted it for something easy to carry for travelling and informal candid portraits, scenics, etc. I have a 35 mm film SLR with a bunch of lenses and accessories but not always convenient to carry it and film processing is getting to be a pain in the a__s. Very pleased with the camera so far bought the Fujifilm fitted leather case for it and waiting for the adapter/49 mm UV-haze filter to protect the lens (as is my practice for all my lenses). I checked out the WCL/TCL converters but holy cow are they expensive..I'll pass on those the X100F for me is basically a snapshot camera anyway. Any more specialized photography I'll use my trusty 35 mm film SLR.
I have the 2 converters for my x100t and although 50mm equiv is my preferred focal length I really dislike the look and feel of the camera with the tcl attached, so much so that I hardly ever use it and have to force myself to put it on. The wcl is a much better fit for the body. Having said that, I'm on a 2 week vacation with my family just now and the combination of the x100 and wcl/tcl is perfect for traveling. One bonus is switching the lenses won't get dust in the sensor, the other is that it's such a discreet set up (small and quiet) my family doesn't notice me whipping the camera out at every photo opportunity 😁. I would definitely agree that the 35mm f2 is a superior l lens.
If memory serves me, in the 1980's some of the camera companies made dual focal length compact cameras . I wish fuji would make a 28mm / 85mm equivalent dual focal length camera with reasonable apertures (2.0 or 2.8 equivalent). What an awesome little travel camera that would be.
Such a lovely video -both your content and the background of your family going about your holiday. I’m in awe of the fact that you (and Denae of course) can wrangle that football crowd of children and still have energy left to produce YT content! Respect buddy!
Thanks yet again for an amazing video with superb photos! I agree totally with your conclusions. Two years ago I did a test similar to this one - albeit with a x100s. The day after I GAVE my converters away! I kept the camera for its leaf shutter to use ONLY in broad daylight with flash at f2 and the built in ND. You can easily create stunning images this way! (The small XF-X20 flash, connected either with a cord or cheap radio triggers, easily out-power the sun at resonable distances :) )
Man, it's come full circle... I used to have each for my x100 ... Original, OG, 12mp non-xtrans goodness I always thought they were a cool idea and pretty useful for having 3 focal lengths in a fixed lens camera that nobody else was doing Love the videos as always!
I have both conversion lenses for the x100f. Interesting conclusions. As someone else stated here, the camera is not terribly sharp at f/2... and the conversion lenses just mirror the capabilities of the 23mm fixed lens. If I need a wide aperture, I usually go with f/2.8, maybe f/4. The teleconverter is capable of rendering very sharp portraits. I may return the wide converter as I just don't think I'll use it as much. All of this said, at times I wish I had bought the xt20 with tilting screen and interchangeable lens feature. But I'm getting some sharp, superb images with the x100f... and it's quite portable.
If you need wider than 28mm, let's say 24mm on your Fuji X100F you can buy the Canon WC E-68 wide angle converter with a 49-46mm step down ring and there you go ! A 24 mm full frame equivalent on your Fuji X100F for $60.
Absolutely no problems with that soft image taken with the TCL - it is beautiful and I bet it will look amazing on print! If you print it, I bet it will remain on your wall for posterity. And, apart of the usual great photos you do, I like very much the grading you did on the overcast images you took hiking to the petrified forest. Now price wise, how it compares an X100F & TCL with an X-E3 & 35mm/f2 & 23mm/f2 ?
I bought my X100F four months ago. Shortly after, I considered getting the add-on focal length converters and choked at the price of each of them..oh my they are expensive! In addition..they would defeat the purpose of having a relatively small easy to carry handy digital camera that I intended to have something much easier to carry than an SLR with a couple of lenses. So, for my purposes the built-in 'digital zoom' focal length equivalents work fine for me. If I want more flexibility in focal lengths I go back to using my film SLR's with the appropriate lenses.
Great video on the X100F and these add ons. Considered getting this but now dissuaded. Makes me now want to consider XPro2 for full interchangeable lenses. Thanks.
I use my F on a tripod for landscapes all the time now. I also use the ND that's built in and am looking at the Lee filter kit for it. My Canon 6d is on the local CL.
The X100 is soft at macro distances at f2. It's not the lens converters that are producing this. By f4 it's very sharp for macro and because you are so close you don't lose out on much bokeh anyway. I have the TCL and notice zero difference when it comes to image quality.
Yes, it's soft wide open bare, that's true. But I notice it is even softer with th TCL. I actually have that flower mage side by side without TCL and I can see a difference.
Good video! I have the x100v and was thinking of the 28mm WCL, but now I doubt it. I use mainly use Nikons and got this camera for its small lightweight size and the great lens.
My F goes on a tripod regularly. I also don't see a point to these add-on converters. Seems kind of lazy to me, but I only use two lenses on my 6d - 35/2 and 135/2. I can't remember the last time the 50mm or 85mm got used. There was about a year or so when I had a 5d and only 1 lens - 35mm f2 IS. If the TCL was an 85mm equivalent, and the WCL was closer to 16mm that would make sense to me. 50 is too close to 35 to matter, IMO.
Nice video! We visited Bryce and Capitol Reef last June. For us that's a 14 hour flight from home. So I decided to stick with the save option by bringing my Canon 6D mk2 and not the X100F. Anyway, I love your photo's. Lots of great things to discover in Utah!
The X100 series never really did anything for me...But I bought the 35mm F1.4 for less on Ebay than a 35mm F2 and I couldn't be happier. ( on my XPro1 and my XE-1) One thing I do before I buy a lens is that I go on flickr and look at the images for each lens....The 23mm F2 won there and the 35mm 1.4 won hands over heels over the F2...Great video though and I think your impressions are right on..
That's interesting you feel the 35mm 1.4 wins over the f2 version. Seems like I've heard from a lot of people that the 1.4 had poorer IQ. That's one of the few Fuji lenses I've not tried personally as when I shoot 50mm equiv, I usually am wanting small size and to be inconspicuous.
It's not much of a difference in size...The lens hood and the lens cap are annoying but it focuses quickly and just has a different look with the images..It is not ultra sharp but in the general appearance of the images in regards from what I have seen of the F2....I wouldn't trade it...I think it is going to be on my camera a lot...I have to 23 F2 and the 50 F2...but I am more than happy I got this one instead!....All photographers are different in what they put out but when you check Flickr and there are so many really good images and better looking wit this lens...Well..I was just lucky I got a real deal...
I have not tried the F2 lens, but I gather that the main complaint with the F1.4 is the focusing. Focus acquisition and accuracy with the F2 version is reportedly superior to the 1.4. Pixel peepers might sit at their keyboards and criticize sharpness and other wankery they read about on DeePee Review, but I find the look of the 1.4 version simply magical. With my X-T2 for weddings in cramped spaces like for the bride getting ready in a small hotel room focusing is reasonably quick and accurate, and everything from F1.4 down to F2.8 looks stunning. I use Nikon bodies as my main cameras, but for that 50mm equivalent prime focal length I just keep the 35/1.4 on my Fujifilm body and reach for it often.
So do you feel the same way about the 100 serries? Here is my dilemma, I currently have had a nikon d3300 for the past 4 years. I have a tamron 17-50 2.8 and a nikon 35mm 1.8. Street photography is mostly what I enjoy but I love taking portraits of my daughter and dont really want to abandon ICL all together, so my initial thought was to get an x100f for street and as "more likely to have on me" camera, but its ultimately not as small as some people make it out to be honestly around the same size as the xt20. so that caused me to start looking at that, which made me look at the xt2 because really its not all that bigger than the 20....but then the Panasonic GX9 is brought to my attention, but I don't know if I want to commit to M43 and all the image samples I see look flat or dark compared to the fuji. Of course there arent many samples either because the GX9 is newer and more obscure and kind of getting a lot of hate even from panasonic people. Anyway, I know the solution is to rent it all to see what fits me, but I thought I would ask if you feel the XT20 is still your "have it on you" camera, and if my main mode of carry would be a small messenger bag with a surface pro and some other small items, would it still be too bulky? PS I should mention that having a dslr for street is what brought me to look at fuji to begin with, as I feel unconfident due to feeling "paparazi"-ish with dslr out on the streets, even though it is a smaller one.
Don't know if this makes a difference to anyone, but with the X100f the sensor never gets exposed to the elements when you change lenses (adding or taking off the adaptors), whereas with a standard interchangeable lens camera (like the X-T2 or X-Pro3) the sensor does get exposed when changing lenses.
WCL is excellent for landscape! The TCL is more for indoors and nightlife where you want to photograph people and things without sticking your camera in their faces although that huge adaptor somewhat defeats the purpose. I wonder why they couldn't have made it 40mm to make it worthwhile.
The idea of buying some Fuji x100 is regularly coming back to me. But you reminded me that I hate 35mm eq. so I should not do it, thanks :-P I could live just with two lenses 1) 21-24 eq. and 2) 45-50 eq.
I really want to develop my skills with the OVF, but I would also like 50mm. I have the X100V and I am now pondering whether to trade my Canon for an X-Pro (likely 2) and a 50mm equiv. or just get the TCL But, I think the TCL means you can't use the OVF.
My experience shooting film back in the day was always a 24mm and a 50mm to do 95% of my photos. It was only natural for me to go with the 16mm f2.8 and the 35mm f2 on my X-T20. However, everyone says the 23mm is a must have. Rather odd to see someone who likes to shoot with the same focal lengths.
You miss the value of the adapters if you compare them to the relevant lenses. Of course the dedicated lens is better. These adapters are for someone who has only a x100 camera and use it as an occasional addition. And remember, these adapters were created when there was only the x100 on the market some years ago. I must say your pictures with the adapters are very nice...
Thanks a lot, My X100F arrives tomorrow and I was thinking to get the converters too...but I was sceptical and your vid helped a lot. I always had at least two lenses in my bag 23 f2 and 50 f2 and was scared to stick only to the 23 ... but that’s what I was going to do
Great vid. I want a small light camera for every day and travel, but like meeting people and taking their portraits too. So I was wondering whether you think with the new X100v that the quality of the telephoto lens will be improved significantly enough in combination and not be so soft so I can get better results at 50mm equivalent?
Thanks for this. I used an X100S and TCL adaptor for a while, but found the difference between 23mm and 33mm not really great enough to justify adding the adaptor, and like you, found the adaptor bulky. I found your video disconcerting in that the WB in your video footage is very cool and the WB in your stills photos (of the same subjects) is very warm. Was this deliberate? I'm also interested to know what film simulation you used for the stills photos? It's distinctive. Classic Chrome?
Ha, is that a Ford Excursion? Very Utah. Getting on topic, glad you made this. I’ve always been curious about the TCL/TCW. I don’t think I ever realized how big those suckers are.
sorry, bit late, but …: let's take one more criteria into the comparison between the TCL and the 35mm lens. Put the lens onto the X100F ( as this is the camerea base, we're Talking About) and then talk about the Image Quality … I bet the screwed on TCL is far better than the not fitting lens … :-) Oh, you're talking About the "over all" Quality? well, then take a Hasselblad with a Zeiss !
But tbh,, i dun think super sharp image is necessary for all professional work,, like myself doing fashion works,, i always lower the sharpness anyway,, the feeling of the photos are much more important than the quality of the sharpness,, if using the x100 with the converters is making you wanna shoot more,, then use it,, :)
Awesome review and some great images - makes a pleasant change not to have a kit raver review. Then again I suspect that your not on the 'kick back' trail with S😁ny....
Great video. I am really loving your videos and reviews. After watching your massive film review/comparison I became a huge fan. On another topic, are they seriously all your children?? 🤪🤪 😁😁
really cool video chief! and you just convinced me not to buy the X100f. I've got the XT1 with a few lenses, and have been thinking about selling them all and getting the x100f. But now I think I will just stick to my xt1! so thanks for the save
It's tough. The Sun is going down. I'm standing in the spot where the streetcars come down and the sun shines through the trees and hits the streetcar just right. But there's always people or bicycles or cars in the way, but hey what can I say here I am.

It's not a national park. It's Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument which is controlled by the BLM. Nationals Parks, such as Bryce Canyon, are under the Department of Interior. The GS-E and Bears Ears were just reduced in size by the current administration and remain under threat. If you enjoy camping and exploring these areas you should also be an advocate for them. And being an advocate implies knowing what the are. That's what I'm saying.

I do love that leaf shutter.
And ND filter. :)
Does the high sync speed flash also still works with an external Fuji dedicated flash?
Congratulations on your wonderfully large family -- I grew up as one of six -- great times.
Man, it's come full circle... I used to have each for my x100 ... Original, OG, 12mp non-xtrans goodness
I always thought they were a cool idea and pretty useful for having 3 focal lengths in a fixed lens camera that nobody else was doing

That is also my opinion! Honest presentation, thank you.

Work? No dark corner?
Is the tcl still soft on the new x100v? I figured it would be better seeing as the 23mm is a better 23 than previous models..
Absolutely no problems with that soft image taken with the TCL - it is beautiful and I bet it will look amazing on print! If you print it, I bet it will remain on your wall for posterity.

sincere and reliable judgment as ever. love your channel!
I used X100T for rally racing so I think you can use it for landscape :P

Killed it as usual!! Now I want one. The slippery slope Fuji puts in front of us :)
The X100 series never really did anything for me...But I bought the 35mm F1.4 for less on Ebay than a 35mm F2 and I couldn't be happier. I'm assuming it couldn't be made wider due to optical matching, results wouldn't have been good enough
So do you feel the same way about the 100 serries? Here is my dilemma, I currently have had a nikon d3300 for the past 4 years. I have a tamron 17-50 2.8 and a nikon 35mm 1.8. Thanks for the video. Does the TCL block a lot of the OVF?
Don't know if this makes a difference to anyone, but with the X100f the sensor never gets exposed to the elements when you change lenses (adding or taking off the adaptors), whereas with a standard interchangeable lens camera (like the X-T2 or X-Pro3) the sensor does get exposed when changing lenses.
Great point!
Hi Andrew, could you give tips on how to zone focus with this camera?
Love your videos
Awesome & cool ! Thanks !
WCL is excellent for landscape! The TCL is more for indoors and nightlife where you want to photograph people and things without sticking your camera in their faces although that huge adaptor somewhat defeats the purpose. I wonder why they couldn't have made it 40mm to make it worthwhile.
Nice pics
Thanks for sharing your thoughts and experiences! Hope, you all had a nice trip! By the way, that‘s really an amazing landscape😎.

I agree with you completely. I think I said as much in my conclusions.
Thanks a lot, My X100F arrives tomorrow and I was thinking to get the converters too...but I was sceptical and your vid helped a lot. I always had at least two lenses in my bag 23 f2 and 50 f2 and was scared to stick only to the 23 ... but that’s what I was going to do
Thank you for the info!(: and what camera and lens are you using to shoot this video?
If I remember right, I believe the Sony a7iii
@@AndrewGoodCamera thanks for answering!
10:31 I have never heard the term "Kludgy" before! Had to look it up. Learn something new everyday!
Fantastic presentation of the x100f thank you! Subbed.
Great vid. I want a small light camera for every day and travel, but like meeting people and taking their portraits too. So I was wondering whether you think with the new X100v that the quality of the telephoto lens will be improved significantly enough in combination and not be so soft so I can get better results at 50mm equivalent?
I'm not sure, but am very excited to find out. I have it on pre-order and will be thoroughly testing, as I have the same, sincere question.
Love that Classic Chrome, very nice shots. Were you shooting in RAW or JPEG?
Thanks for this. I used an X100S and TCL adaptor for a while, but found the difference between 23mm and 33mm not really great enough to justify adding the adaptor, and like you, found the adaptor bulky. I found your video disconcerting in that the WB in your video footage is very cool and the WB in your stills photos (of the same subjects) is very warm. Was this deliberate? I'm also interested to know what film simulation you used for the stills photos? It's distinctive. Classic Chrome?
which kind of preset did you used with these pics? Its beautiful!, please share it with us
Could you please give us your preset on the photos in this specific video. I'm digging them alot!
Should be linked in description
unfortunately link doesn't work
Lovely family
I luv your video. Thank you thank you
Super cool vlog and imagines. Is the TCL adding more bokeh or is just a magnifier?
Ha, is that a Ford Excursion? Very Utah.
Getting on topic, glad you made this. I’ve always been curious about the TCL/TCW. I don’t think I ever realized how big those suckers are.
A very Utah car for a very Utah family, I guess :)
What did you use to shot this video? Thanks
Sorry, i saw it in the description. XT2, right?
Yup!
What you think of Lumix LX100 II?
Amazing pics. :) Have you shot jpg or raw?
Usually RAW
really nice review sir! great video and audio is superb. :) new sub here.
man ... you know what version II of tcl and wcl ??
Only the most recent version supports the x100f
sorry, bit late, but …: let's take one more criteria into the comparison between the TCL and the 35mm lens.
LOL
But tbh,, i dun think super sharp image is necessary for all professional work,, like myself doing fashion works,, i always lower the sharpness anyway,, the feeling of the photos are much more important than the quality of the sharpness,, if using the x100 with the converters is making you wanna shoot more,, then use it,, :)
Depends on what you shoot. Close up faces, yeah. I totally agree. Most Fuji lenses are too sharp. Products and landscape though?
You have Five kids? two about kills me
Yup
Awesome review and some great images - makes a pleasant change not to have a kit raver review. Then again I suspect that your not on the 'kick back' trail with S😁ny....
Thanks! I did just buy the a7iii, but I don't know what the kick back trail is.
Great video. I am really loving your videos and reviews. After watching your massive film review/comparison I became a huge fan. On another topic, are they seriously all your children?? 🤪🤪 😁😁
Haha. Yes. All ours. Some through adoption.
Denae & Andrew lovely...such a beautiful family. 👍❤️
I really like your glasses. Where did you get them?
Warby Parker
Thanks for the fast response. Love the content btw, you've got yourself a new subscriber.
really cool video chief! and you just convinced me not to buy the X100f. I've got the XT1 with a few lenses, and have been thinking about selling them all and getting the x100f. But now I think I will just stick to my xt1! so thanks for the save
Glad to hear it helped!
First. I am in The Buena Vista. In San Francisco. Drinking Irish coffee. Literally right now.
Getting some good photos, I hope.
It's tough. The Sun is going down. I'm standing in the spot where the streetcars come down and the sun shines through the trees and hits the streetcar just right. But there's always people or bicycles or cars in the way, but hey what can I say here I am.
Irish coffee Cocktail
Irish coffee is a cocktail consisting of hot coffee, Irish whiskey, and sugar, stirred, and topped with thick cream. The coffee is drunk through the cream. Wikipedia
Main alcohol: Irish whiskey
Ingredients: 2 2/3 oz (4 parts) Hot coffee, 1 1/3 oz (2 parts) Irish whiskey, 1 tsp. Brown sugar, 1 oz (1½ parts) Fresh cream
Preparation: Heat the coffee, whiskey and sugar; do not boil. Pour into glass and top with cream; serve hot.
Drinkware: Irish coffee mug
They use clear glass glasses. They heat the glasses first with hot water. They use two cubes of cane sugar. Wonderful.
Escalante national park? Just saying.
What are you saying?
It's not a national park. It's Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument which is controlled by the BLM. Nationals Parks, such as Bryce Canyon, are under the Department of Interior. The GS-E and Bears Ears were just reduced in size by the current administration and remain under threat. If you enjoy camping and exploring these areas you should also be an advocate for them. And being an advocate implies knowing what the are. That's what I'm saying.
Thanks for clarifying (shaming tone, notwithstanding).
