Knew this was coming eventually. Glad you're playing the Remake version! You're right about the monster's appearance changing. It used to be a reused zombie sprite (which I called "Rotface" at the time). It also used to be faster, but now it's slower. Apparently it was done to "give the player a fairer chance". I can't help but think the zombie version was a bit more memorable than this phantom version, but that's just me. And the mansion has been downsized a lot. It used to be two huge hallways. But the layout's been changed. Now it's more house-like with smaller hallways. (Probably felt bigger because Miki's sprite was really small then.) Some story details that were left out have been put into the game, which made it more cohesive. (Though, the ending still...yeah.)
It got frustrating fast though since there was no clue to which hiding spots were safe, which ones continued the chase and which ones killed you. You basically repeated the chases over and over until you lucked upon the right one.
Yeah, but I think it's because the remake is more story-driven, so there's less emphasis on the scares. It's easier to feel for Saki in the remake because we always see her facial expression when she speaks. Even from the beginning, she's already visibly exhausted and depressed, while in the original you couldn't tell that immediately. Shinji is also utilized better as a character in the remake, while in the original he seems very flat and uninteresting.

It's been a while since I watched an LP for this game (I never played it, just watch others), but I do remember that, yeah, the house originally had wider hallways and just bigger in general. I guess Uri wanted to make the house seem more claustrophobic and eerie, as well as more difficult to move around when being chased. But I'm excited this one's been remade too, I've always liked Uri's older games.

I recall being introduced to Paranoiac around a year and a half ago through Manly’s channel, and, as it was one of the first games I had ever seen Manly commentate over, I’m quite fond of and grateful to this short horror title. Though the gameplay mechanics and general story arc were a bit simplistic from what I remember, the quiet moments of striking honesty and humanity, depicting the brutality of emotional abuse and the potentially debilitating influence of mental illness, still managed to be rather heavy and effectively somber. Considering the somewhat stereotypical setting and plotline of a new tenant running erratically through a haunted, abandoned house in avoidance of the apparition of the previous owner, these interwoven psychological elements and grounded conversations helped to elevate and bring additional facets to this common premise. Needless to say, I’m looking forward to the possible expansion and improvement of the writing overall. However, though I might be mistaken, I believe the jumpscares were slightly more effective, pronounced, and frightening in the original game, taking better advantage of the instances of tension which preceded them. In this remake, Miki still ap-PEAR-ently hasn’t considered simply selling her ghost-riddled, hair-infested inheritance to the next unfortunate residents and purchasing a nice, small home better suited to a new homeowner. A place that’s spirit-free, preferably.

5:04 - the scariest line in the game.
Ah I'm so excited to see it back!
They have some quality batteries there. Nobody's been in there for 3 years and the clocks are still ticking. Nice.
I'm writing this before my phone dies, I'm sitting on a couch at a party and I have no clue where the charge port is. I have the charger I need but I'm too scared to ask for the charge port. I'll give an update when I get home.
Hope you got home safely and with a charged phone.
Went searching for your old vids of this game and happened upon the playlist for Uri's games. Guess I'll be binge watching your vids!
Man this game is great it brings back so many memories
Did you know in Japan they used to leave creaky floorboards just in case of assassins and injures it was basically mid evil feudal Japan style security
I felt a murmur in my heart when I saw this. The time has come.
I don't think I ever got to see this series the lets play was taken down for some reason so I'm excited to see this!
I first subbed to you while you were in the process of playing the original. How amazing and neat

Ahhh the paranoiac piano song.. boy that brings back memories.
I don't think i watched the original, but I'll be sure to enjoy this
I dunno, the zombie face and the weird mumbling and whispering the spirit made in the original were super memorable and horrifying.
