Hi Sandra, love your channel, so happy that I found it. I just picked up an archtop and am making it my life's work to learn jazz guitar. I'm fortunate in that I'm starting on third base (at least second). Hope you get that American reference to baseball. Anyway, there's a couple of things that I can't bring myself to do and have a couple of questions. Hybrid picking...I can't bring myself to using my pinky to pluck the string. It just seems wrong (you may know p i m a for the fingering on the right hand) and it feels terrible. Why are you using a pick at all on this tune. There doesn't seem to be any value to it. Now that I have an archtop and an amplifier I seem to be able to dial in a stronger tone if I'm using my fingers rather than a pick. If I wanted to solo in a piece then that would be different as you can solo much faster with a pick. Is there a real reason why you are using hybrid picking here? Also, there's no way that I'm ever going to use the thumb on my left hand to form a chord. It puts my wrist in the complete wrong position and goes against everything I know ;-). Will I really be at a disadvantage if I refuse to do this contortion? You have a gift for teaching. Do you also play out, forgetting about Covid 19 of course? Thanks, Paul
Hi Paul, You don't have to use hybrid picking, if it down't feel good for you. I use it on almost every tune. It gives me the freedom to add in some single notes whenever I want to. It's just very flexible. You also don't have to use your thumb for some of the chords, but I highly recommend it for the m7b5 chord from the E-string. You can change over to its V chord quicker. Also on the higher fret numbers there's not enough room for four fingers.
Grrrrrreetings from New . Love your playing and the lessons. Awesome. Are you originally from Austria? Your English is excellent. We appreciate your work. Thx

Thank you, for your kind words. Yep, born and raised in Austria 🇦🇹. Good school system here 😊
when playing the C min7 wouldn't it be easier to use the thumb to fret the low C?
Depends on what you prefer. Since the Cm7 often goes to the F9 (it's a II V, like also in this tune), you just need to glide down your fingers one string.
where should we put improvisation part ? Between A and B section or in the end of the song ?
The petticoat usually goes over the entire doing form!
At 8:57, what is the significance of barring that 9 chord?
The index finger is already there on that fret. Why would I switch all my fingers if all I need to do is move my index up?

Sorry, I don't have that. I would have to remix it only for you 😉
@@GuitarversumSandraSherman no probs :)
Greetings im so sorry i just had to share this w you.. my friend stopped by while i was doing your lesson..same guy i bust out the b13 #5 on ....anyway im 57 going on 30 hes maybe older than me he walks down and we jam electrc in my driveway sometimes, im rhythm he likes lead so i do the 251 or another 4 chord jam and he lays it down over what im playing....anyway i have watched so many of your lessons and improving, so i figured time to blow his mind even more...i changed all his barr chords into mj7 min 7 ,hes a cowboy chord and barr chords... his eyes blew up think i freaking this guy out its so funny..anyway hes stuck on these new barr type chords. So we jammed and as hes walking down the street back to his house i shouted next time we will do something in e #....i waited could see him trying to find it on his guitar, turns around amigo theres no e#...he came back i couldnt explain why but he now knows theres no e#b#..gave him your lesson names..said check out 'sista sandra.'..realizing now he may think you are a catholic nun...anyway felling rather smug we had good laugh..you have another student..thank you ..you may have created a monster...

Haha, what a great story ❤️ Cherish the times you play with friends.
Scuse me can you make a video concern how to play over a blues progression?
I have several her on my YT channel. Please go to my channel (by clicking my logo beliw the video) and look for the Blues Playlist.
@@GuitarversumSandraSherman thank You
Hi Sandra!.The TTI strings what gauge. are they on the Howard Roberts? Thanks.
Yes, Howard Roberts. Gauge 12. But please watch the video I told you about. I explain strings there too and what I use.
@@GuitarversumSandraSherman Thanks Sandra I will watch. I always used 12/52, flats. I will be ninety years in December and noticed lately that the 4th, 5th and 61h where difficult to play cleanly. I have made up my own set of TTI on top 3strings and D"Addario on bottom 3.This appears to have solved the buzzing on lower strings whether chords or single notes the gsuge from top to bottom is 12+16-20-26-36-46.I see TTI BB11 is similar. Cheers.
So at the beginning of the bid you say it’s in Gm then further on you say it’s in Bb?
Thais the same key Bb major = Gm. But since it ends in Gm the tune is in Gm.
@@GuitarversumSandraSherman Ah of course it’s the relative minor. I didn’t know that when a tune ends in the minor chord you call it that key. Thanks! Great content and also wasn’t really even expecting a reply as I noticed ( after I posted my comment) that the video is two years old! Great stuff. I’ve subscribed🙏❤️
Thanks for the video 👏 i have a question. Is this really necessary to be this conservative about baring the chords? 😓
I don't underdtand welsh you mean by that. You can fret the chords and easy you prefer. I just give recommendations, that are based on various situations and experience.
In another comment I already praised your teaching mehod. But the music theory! Holy shit, in just 1 second I understood how Ao fits into the chord progression of 2-5-1. Gm=Bflat major, and there we are! Doors opened 🙂
Glad you found it useful and I was able to make some light bulbs appear 💡😊. Keep swinging 🎸 🎶
Fast wie Still Got the Blues von Gary Moore - Ruhe in Frieden Gary.
Den Zusammenhang musst mir mal erklären 😊
@@GuitarversumSandraSherman Auf die Akkorde und die Melodie bezogen. Da es sehr ähnlich ist.
Ausserdem starb Gary am 06.02.2011 an Herzversagen.
I'm watching you after quite a long time.. How come you have become so lean!
Less chocolate 😁
@@GuitarversumSandraSherman Yeah! Very nice
Can you make tutorial for music called Undercover by Pier Van Dormael. Plllssssss
I've never heard of that song.
Just curious what the hard version of chords would look like if this is easy?
You could play tons of substitutes
Ok thanks, I’m getting this. Practice actually works😂

Hello love how are you
Hola, cuantos kebap te comes a la semana y que te parece la experiencia? Gracias, un saludo!!

I can play the melody..the improv over the altered 🔑 s is not my forte. I can hear the harmonic minor..but I am not yet at home with improv here yet.
I have some lessons on how to improvise over altered chords. Check out my altered theory lesson and the altered licks lesson!
Great lesson ..many thanks .. you look even younger.. have you lost weight?
Yes, thanks! I lost 20kg/44lbs.
@@GuitarversumSandraSherman great stuff . Keep it up.. maybe next lesson on weight loss ??

Guitarversum Sandra Sherman , thanks
