- Strapping a jet engine to a bicycle... What could go wrong?
This project is part of our Xwing journey. It's an epic journey to fly a rigid carbon fiber skydiving wing that will be turbine powered and fully aerobatic.
Jet Cat USA is an official sponsor of the project and gave us a testing turbine so we can learn the engine. It's one thing to learn it on a bench test; it's another to actually put the engine to use!

And I thought those 80cc 2-stroke bicycle engines were cool.
And next put 3 or 4 more of that jet engine and add wings. You'll fly.

it's not only possible, it's already in use
the wing lifts the plane not the engine
Admin Buster while the engine doesn’t directly lift the plane it somewhat does as the wings only re direct air downwards to create upwards thrust and it’s the engine moving the vehicle forward that causes the air to be redirected down by the wind and so yes it is basically the engine lifting the plane not the wings. The plane wouldn’t fly without the engines and so saying it’s the wings that lifts it off the ground suggests that it could lift off the ground without the engines being attached
You do know that I am a pilot and flown GLIDERS since i was 14. You don't need an engine to fly an airplan. I have flown a Discus B for 8 HOURS without an engine. I currently fly jets
For our next trick: Two of them, lower slung, with a larger fuel tank, and afterburners.
This was probably my first thought after i saw these turbines years ago... Why not... Couldn't be more simple. It wont have "Acceleration" but who cares...its just cool. Anything is cool when you strap a Turbine onto it. Its shocking it took this long for someone to do this to be honest. Most people dont have 3 grand sitting around for this tho... Maybe one day when I can find a broken turbine and fix it....I will do this

Fuel efficiency is in gallons per mile and speed control is done through prayer

You beat me to my own idea. Get rid of the knobies for street tires and you might get another 10 or 15 mph out of it. New motor sport jet powered super motard.
Would that one or one just a little bigger be enough to power some sort of ultralight plane? Go from L.A. to Vegas in like 2 hours. Awesome!
Not even slightly, you'd need 4 to lift a simple human, flight wouldnt be possible since you'd stall pretty consistently, maybe with 4+wings you could

Maximum passenger weight wills wing eagle 250 lbs
Pilot weight 180 lbs
100 lbs thrust Engine weight 9 lbs
Folding kayak 32 lbs
4 gallons of fuel plus tank 30 lbs
Total from above 251
Glider weight 55 lbs
Total weight 306 lbs
Maximum thrust to weight 99 to 306 or 3.09:1 or 33%

this would come in very handy if you have to travel into the wind or if you are going uphill for a long ways.
long ways.... the fuel would run out in 7 mins or so and that is with a large tank.

I found your project very interesting and I would like to know about the consommation of your bike. How many miles can you run with one liter of gasoline ?
One liter is used in a minute with these engines running at full speed

@@benzedrex it depends on a lot of parameters but generally these engines produces 5-20 kg of thrust. I can't tell you a speed
Perfect for going on roads that goes up steep hills and require mountain bikes. But even some mountain bikes you have to push up hills. No getting off the bike with a jet on your bike. Just throw your bike into 13 wheel drive and hold on

To reach more speed in flat road we better use a propeller bike (air bike), it is the best option than conventional chain bike, but chain bike is still more better in uphill,
I always thinking about EDF Jet Bike with 16 kg thrust, electric jet bike is the cheapest option than jet tubine bike, but the lowest power.
and I love an air bike.

This is much better served with a few of these and a glider drone or glider or vertical takeoff landing and ram jet motor glider car but still Veery cool and interesting.

Was it easy to set up the turbine? Did the turbine come with everything shown except the bike and fuel?

They should donate three of these to "The Hacksmith" he's trying to make a real ironman flight video, but he's using electric ducted fans which aren't powerful enough. He needs three or four of these as his main lift engines, then electric fans for stability.
