Goldsmith is excellent here. He's using a feel somewhere between Morricone and Elmer Bernstein on this one. It's a title (repeated in the Finale) that you can listen to endlessly and it never pales.
It is great. I have seen the movie 10 times. And it helps that one of the most beautiful and elegant women of her times, Jill Ireland, is in the movie!
Good movie, good cast, good opening scenes with the music. Takes me back to 1975 when I saw it in the theater when I was stationed in Little Creek, VA, good times and I had more hair and it was dark brown.
Give a hand to Jerry Goldsmith for adding true western character to this western with his robust music. I have another old western DVD called "Rio Cochos" made in the early sixties with jerry Goldsmith's music which harmonizes so beautifully with the scenic grandeur of the western scenery (filmed in Utah)
If you watch a lot of Charles Bronson western films, you might have noticed he wears the same hat style in "Guns of Diablo", "Jubal", "The Magnificent Seven" and "Once Upon a Time in The West". It's a cool hat that fits his face.
And he could do it without breaking a sweat. Bronson is a really under rated actor. Sergio Leone said that Bronson was the best actor he worked with (that included Henry Fonda, Robert De Niro, James Woods, etc.)
Great film with Charles Branson 👌 best films a lot of people don,t realise this is a Alistair mac lean who bought guns of navavrone & when eight bells toll Branson always good value 4 money it,s even got John Wayne old mate Ben Johnson in lovely xx
Last time I saw Breakheart Pass was when it originally screened. However, I knew there was something wrong with this version of the opening credits scene. What we should hear is the chuffing of the locomotive, then the music starts WITH the continued engine chuffing in the background. The chuffing plays throughout the entire intro. Also, right at the beginning of this piece, the first strain repeats before going on. In the movie, it does not.
I've loved that music intro from the first day it screened. In my retirement, I now drive a steam locomotive on weekends (Poway-Midland RR). Actually, I taught my daughter to engineer, and I'm now relegated to firing (I like firing more than engineering anyway). Look up the PMRR on youtube.
Saw the film for the first time here on TH-cam yesterday. While it's not exceptional, it is enjoyable, good cast, some excellent stunt work and it's a satisfying watch, even if you wonder how credible the villain's plotting really is.. The director made 'Will Penny'. Bronson is a bit under rated as an actor: he's very economical and goes about his business in an understated way that's very effective. Goldsmith's score is subdued (main theme apart) but it works.
thugh it was fairly absurd to give jerry goldsmith fairly small credits , his should have owned the screen as much as 'Richard Crennas notice the producer had no problem giving himself a biggie yep underrated is an understatement here, even by his own kind
it may well be that most of the great movie scores were westerns Laura Vertigo and some others were the exception but westerns brought out the best in the high class musical talent there was something about the expansiveness, the overreaching I am sure the theory is as full of holes as Jerry the Mouses favorite swiss cheese but that's my story and Im sticking to it
@Ironhorse27 Are you from Lewiston? I'm kind of surprised that someone else knows where the movie was filmed at. I'm a Lewiston native as I was born and raised there. I was in my early teens when it was filmed in the mid 1970's.
Did you Charles Bronson who played Deacon died on August 30, 2003 from pneumonia while suffering from Alzheimer's disease at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, CA?
This music: The work of a genius. As for the fine actors, they're all gone now, and I sure miss them.
Great music,, - it seems to be an integral part of the train in an action film with a taut plot in which not a moment is wasted. Love it!
Probably Charles Bronson's finest movies! Xlnt music and plot. I think most people aren't aware of this really fine western.
Jerry Goldsmith was a genius. His music has so many layers and they're all exquisite! ❤
Goldsmith is excellent here. He's using a feel somewhere between Morricone and Elmer Bernstein on this one. It's a title (repeated in the Finale) that you can listen to endlessly and it never pales.
Great music. Maestro Goldsmith.
This movie is one of the best westerns I have seen. Great music for doing homework.
Best Westerns? The motel chain?
Milo Flint hope they never do a remake Ed Lauter was perfect as the Major
@@srsilver86 And nobody could replace Charles Bronson in the lead

@@lukeyznaga7627bronson’s wife.

Ben Johnson -- always a great supporting actor.
I listen this and I there in the West smelling the pine, Chaparrell, and seeing the blue sky and the endless land in front of me, Thanks!
Great movie. One of Bronson's best. Good supporting cast including the great Ben Johnson. Wonderful theme tune.
I love this music
Same 👍👍
When the music starts .high action begins . great movie .
I’ve loved this picture since I was a kid. Top notch.
The music takes me back to the 70’s. Good stuff.
Cracking supporting cast and photography with a solid performance from Mr Bronson.
A film worth watching 4 the lovely jill Ireland love ❤️ her & the music by Jerry goldsmith again rest in peace xxx
awsome! one my favorite western themes

Great movie and terrific music
It was made on the Camas Prarie Railroad in Idaho. Most of where this film was shot the railroad is now abandoned.
Fantastic. Thanks for sharing. It was a very good movie too.
This is a great movie 🎥
Charles Bronson did good job as John Deakin
Locomotive #75 is good kind of engine as Locomotive #9
The fight on the train between Bronson and Archie Moore was awesome!
April2021 ... mal wieder gehört ... Bock auf den Film!
Just watched this movie about 10 minutes ago on Western Channel. The final film for stuntman Yakima Canutt. Classic Bronson western fair.
Just watched this last night, what a classic !
This is a real Badass movie!
Great times when western movies were made in reality and not by digital means. Acting was important, not action scenes, although these were top class.
If you watch a lot of Charles Bronson western films, you might have noticed he wears the same hat style in "Guns of Diablo", "Jubal", "The Magnificent Seven" and "Once Upon a Time in The West". It's a cool hat that fits his face.
No better film made that was as top-notch as this one with this score.
this movie is as good as Where Eagels Dare, music
And he could do it without breaking a sweat. Bronson is a really under rated actor. Sergio Leone said that Bronson was the best actor he worked with (that included Henry Fonda, Robert De Niro, James Woods, etc.)
superb western.superb theme
I remember that movie from the VHS times, have seen it yesterday again. Such a fantastic thing. Mmm... I think I will call my next pet "Bronson". ^.^

Goldsmith was so much better that the overhyped, popularized conducter and music theme maker of all the STar Wars movies!
The music is great, the movie is good, nothing negative to say about it.
A great theme. Jerry Goldsmith sounding a bit like Ennio Morricone.

along with Pelham and Cassandra a sleeper railroad classic
breakheart pass is the geographical feature they have to cross
einer meiner Lieblingsfilme ^^
++ mir gefällt die 9 auf der Lok so gut :-)
BTW, Bronson also wore the same hat style in one of the 30 minute episodes of "Gunsmoke".
The engine used in this flick has been restored and put back on the rails from what I heard!
@GarySteinweg I'm positive I've heard that version too. like the locomotive sound is providing percusion to the music.
Fav Jerry score along with the Mummy
The best movie, the best actor, the best sound track..no coment..
Me too!
Grande Charles Bronson
Great score for a good movie. Maybe Charles Bronsons best wsetern after Chatos Land
.magnificent seven
Once upon a time in the west...? :O

Indian music director Manoj Gyan used this BGM in his Tamil movie Inaindha Kaigal, getting an unimaginably overwhelming response!
I have this movie in CD
I know I’m gonna get called a boomer but they don’t make movies like they used to
ok, thx

Maby the best film doit oa ever
Fort Humble is everywhere
Brekheard Pass = Point of no return
The song (yes it was written before) sounds like The Smith's Bigmouth Strikes Again
One of the best westerns, and better than agatha christie´s murder in the orient express.
B.o au top!
🔝🔝🔝🔝🔝🔝🔝🔝
your right
I have a copy of this soundtrack. It's great isn't it.

@ursus911 Genau, ausgezeichnet!
I don´t understand the name ' Breakheart " in this movie.
Does anyone know where I could find sheet music for this?
Great movie, but has it been released on dvd
Well, in Denmark it has...

B.o top
Compare this to Bernstein's theme to On the Waterfront.
Breakheart pass came out in 76 not 75 listing is wrong
Titles show 1975 (MCMLXXV)
Eine Musik zum träumen, unverbesserlich...
Funny, I hated McLeans WW2 movies, Guns of Navaronne, Force 10 from Navaronne, and Where Eagles Dare, so unrealistic, but Breakheart Pass was great.
Who directed this film?
