Snake telling them his real name is big because one of the things he mentioned when he wanted to kill Gardar is that he and all of his men are vagabounds who can't even use their real names because of the things they had done in their past. Whatever connection Snake felt to Einar and Thorfinn was strong enough for him to tell them his real name.
That "Carve/Engrave it" Norse poem was at the beginning of S2 episode 1. I really liked that they added it again to this episode. Felt like a proper ending to the farm arc.
I CANNOT say enough…. VINLAND IS PEAKLAND. This is one of the rare jewels in anime that has the ability to make many cry JUST from dialogue through many episodes. Thorfinn is doing it!!! From him saying, “what is it that I want to do?” TO “I know what I need to do.” 😩 I’m so freaking proud of our man Thorfinn. Arnheid’s character was VITAL in this season. So for people saying she was too focused on… sit down. She is (in some ways unfortunately) the CATALYST to what Thorfinn & Einar are about to do. Canute doing what he did gave me MAD respect for that man. So freaking good. Masterpiece. Next episode, Home, is about to be emotional… 🥹 the ending “carve it” came full circle from the very beginning of this season 🔥

Vinland saga can produce the emotions that demon slayer's action can with a simple dialogue exchange
Idk man but this part 7:11 to me actually seemed intended to break the fourth wall when Thorfinn tried to answer his own question: *"What am I supposed to say to a soul that has been through hell and yearns for the peace of death?"* They were talking to the audience, as if knowing that someone out there might be going through a tough time, who could be needing that tiny bit of hope, that there is always an option other than "dying." Thorfinn and Einar made a promise to create a place for anyone that needs saving. Or at least, a story of hope for those who are watching.
Ik it's 7 months later but to me the whole show, not just specific moments like that, is speaking directly to the audience. The shows message goes much deeper than the obvious arguments for pacifism and hope it presents. I think Yukimura is trying to get the audience to look at our world the way Thorfinn is looking at his. Thorfinn and Einar have that conversation about how to go about ending slavery and war and Thorfinn mentions that Norse men don't even see war as a bad thing. In Norse culture at the time no one could possibly even imagine a world without war. Like actually not imagine it, it was not a possibility that existed, because everyone had been ingrained that war was something to strive for. That was reality and there was nothing to question. Obviously our culture now is not the same as Norse culture now but our culture still presents us with truths and realities that we just accept. Whereas in Norse culture a universal truth that was accepted was that "War was good and wear valor and honor were gained" an example of a universal truth that most accept today is that "war is simply inevitable and unavoidable". Yukimura I think wants us to challenge some of the supposed universal and unchangable "truths" our world presents to us today and to believe that a better world is possible. A world that is as much better than now as now is better than the world during Thorfinn's time.
The manga doesnt finish here, this is literally the beginning of thorfinn's true journey. I hope there'll be more seasons to come. Also this isnt the last episode either, theres one more episode coming next week.
The significance of snake giving thorfinn and einar his name, is the reason the farm guards were using aliases ‘snake’ ‘fox’ ‘badger’ is they had committed crimes in other places (snake says this part in ep17). My take is if people heard their names and realized they’re wanted criminals they would probably be killed.
In the manga, Canute doesn't say "Who did you take after?" He says "You sound just like Askeladd." I think in this case, Thorfinn took after Askeladd. Eloquence is a trait that Askeladd had that Thors did not. Thors said himself that he needed his sword because he was not yet a master. Eloquence, or being able to easily persuade or convince people, was what Thors lacked but what Askeladd was very proficient in. Thorfinn is on his way to becoming the master that his father never was because he takes after both Thors AND Askeladd.
Don't think this is spoiler but remember the ending scene from season 1? They show 3 new characters but we have only meet one of them. There will be a lot more to come, for us and Thorfinn.

This episode was chapters 98-99, so the last episode of Season 2 is going to be Chapter 100-101. The latest chapter released was 202, and the manga is expected to end around chapter 216, so we're almost at a conclusion to this amazing journey.
+1 for Baltic Sea Arc as the best arc imo, really love Thorfinn's characterization and how he responds to the challenges he faces (trying to be as vague as possible lol)
5 seasons more like. season 3 will be hunter hunted, fettered tern. s4 is baltic sea war arc. then season 5 vinland. unless they can shorten some of it thats what its looking like right now.
@@Ghxurmett nah, hunter and the hunted and fettered tern are both too short to be put only in one season. Since the pacing of S1 and S2 are both pretty slow, i think they could fit the whole eastern expedition in one season if they change the pacing.
