In the 70's I was a musician who backed up Dionne Warwick...she was and still is elegant ...the beautiful singing dove in the white sequin gown who made everyone in the band sing ALFIE. ken dorn
Ken amazing.!! Please tell in details what all you and the musicians thought about her skills, what years you worked for Ms. Dionne, and what all the musicians thought about her voice. I want to know, thank you🙂♥️♥️. Ms. Dionne is tops for me.
FEB. 8, 2023 BURT BACHARACH PASSED AWAY: I HAD THE HONOR & PRIVILEGE OF WORKING WITH BURT BACHARACH IN THE STUDIO (ALBUMS & MOVIE SCORES) EVERGREEN STUDIOS, BURBANK CA. BURT WAS A CLASS ACT & SO WERE THE MANY STARS WHO SANG & PERFORMED ON SCREEN TO HIS MASTERPIECES, WHOM I ALSO WORKED WITH, LIKE DIONNE WARWICK & YES, CAROLE BYER SAGER TOO! HE WILL BE MISSED > THERE WAS ONLY 1 BURT BACHARACH!
These 2 -performers , musicians , had a very special IT Thing musically !! I always have loved their duo , plus the other orchestra members ! For me it started in the 60’s -as I remember - jr.hi , hi school . I now at 74 yrs in 2024 - still loving the music ! Thank you Dionne , and Burt . Bless you both ! A magic duo !
It would be nice, some day, to walk into a night club on the Left Bank of Paris on a beautiful summer evening, and hear a duo of piano and vocals as brilliant as this.
I agree. Thanks for acknowledging Hal too. Such amazing songs they created together. I still hear 'Raindrops keep falling on my head' and picture Paul Newman riding around on the bike from Butch Cassidy and the Sundance kid n
My stepdad would always sing the first line of this song. When under pressure with one thing or another . Takes me back in time , as songs and or music have a tendency to do. A song so meaningful in todays world. Love. What the world needs now.An awesome four letter word.
@@crazyjonhereagain Cilla Black did her best, but the original Dionne Warwick version from 1967, not this 1986 version, is the Dionne Warwick best. By 1986, her voice had already begun to lower from her well-publicized cigarettes, but she still did a very good version here hitting the high and low notes, but with raspiness in between.
I believe that, I believe he did love her and she loves him. But the time that they came along was very different than now. But I believe they love ❤️ each other very much.
I agree, but it was 42 singers who recorded before her, so she was the 43rd singer to record what is now considered a classic and one of her signature songs.
This is literally one of the hardest songs to sing. As a lifelong singer, I could figure out pretty much anything, but this song kind of goes all over the charts and throws off pretty much anyone who tries it. Dionne and her cousin, Whitney, are two people who nail it.
I agree ! Cilla does an incredible version with The Great BURT conducting and playing that piano . It is difficult to sing it . I keep trying, have only mastered a few of the bars lol ❤
This is when music really meant something and you could feel it inside. Even the most base people back then could recognize when the music was quality.
DaOrigTruthSeeker I don't think you can place the blame on public considering commercial music industry has insane reach and monopolistic control of air waves and targeted marketing/customer acquisition. Also performance environment was a crucial part of the musical environment experience for the individuals born early in the 1920's-1940's (these performer and most listeners parents: people who shaped their sensitivity to arts). It's just a lot more complicated than that.
Culture is that complicated. We can look back at any times in music history and understand more about the music by understanding the culture. The same is true with this kind of music.
"Alfie" What's it all about Alfie Is it just for the moment we live What's it all about When you sort it out, Alfie Are we meant to take more than we give Or are we meant to be kind? And if, if only fools are kind, Alfie Then I guess it is wise to be cruel And if life belongs only to the strong, Alfie What will you lend on an old golden rule? As sure as I believe there's a heaven above Alfie, I know there's something much more Something even non-believers can believe in I believe in love, Alfie Without true love we just exist, Alfie Until you find the love you've missed You're nothing, Alfie When you walk let your heart lead the way And you'll find love any day Alfie, oh Alfie What's it all about Alfie?
She was the muse of both Burt Bacharach and Hal David. Together, all three were a triumvirate of talent that went up against the new music of the era, from the British Invasion to the harder edge hippie rock sounds that began to dominate. Dionne, Burt, and Hal continued to bring class and elegance to the era, while still making new music that are now considered classics.
Dang! I remember my parents liking these artists and Herb Alpert and the Tiajuana Brass. I went onto my own stuff as I careened into crazy but sure nice, and often soothing, to listen to their genre of the era
Great version! I have also recently heard Stevie Wonder performing this tune at the White House - superb! It's on youtube, and don't miss the Celia Black version; she brings a deep, deep understanding and performance of the lyric. I think it's my overall favorite.
I wondered why the key was so high, but then when Burt joined in I realized it was to accommodate his range. Once of the greatest pop songs ever written that sounds at least as good today as it did 50 years ago.
I'm 70 and I grew up with this music. What a team. The BEST EVER
This never gets old. Great music never does. So glad I grew up on Burt's and Dionne's music.
Verdade ❤
Me too...but, in all those sweet, sensational years, I never knew or maybe remember, Burt singing!
Beautiful
god rest you soul Burt Bacharach. What a composer
Burt Bacharach will always be One of the Greatest! And the trio of him with Hal David and Dionne Warwick will forever be in my soul. Goodbye Burt!
A song with so much true and beautiful meaning. It has got to be in the top 10 of greatest pop songs of all time.
In the 70's I was a musician who backed up Dionne Warwick...she was and still is elegant ...the beautiful singing dove in the white sequin gown who made everyone in the band sing ALFIE. ken dorn

JUST MY FAVORITE SONG EVER, BURT AND DIONNE DO IT BEST!

I am so blessed to have been part of that era when music was Devine and sultry. Lord I remember. Allen Benton.
R.I.P. Hal David - thanks the words to so many timeless songs like this.
Oh my, the art and talent between them.
Many great performers have sung this song but my favourite is Dionne Warwick
Mine Too!!! It’s just something when she sings 🎤It. Especially when she sings it with Burt.
@@gwenmarie7311 Some Might say Cilla Black? but I love Dionnes version, Cher sang it for the Film!! 💚☘️👍

I’m there, you just drew the scene Alfie
The height of songwriting. Just beautiful - a spiritual experience. Thank you, Burt and Hal David for this classic.
Rest in Peace Burt Bacharach.

Oh WOW BRAVO! Grew up With Both of their Voices AND MUSIC . Magic
Superb collaboration! Could anybody but them perform this song? I think not. God, the music I grew up with was the best!
I enjoyed Burt singing his own refrain- Arguably the best modern era songwriter of popular music.
Sensational.
oh so sweet..such a class act Dionne & Burt!
when i hear this song i tear up,my mom
passed two years ago this is one of her
favorite songs,and artist.
+Deborah Moore Its a beautiful song indeed...and I can imagine a difficult one to sing, may your dear mother repose in peace Debhorah...
Sorry to see this...may God take her
Still brings tears to my eyes. And she was the only one I wanted to hear sing it.
Dan Hines still dont come close to Cilla Blacks version of it even BB says in parts the song grabs you when she sang it

i realize it's pretty off topic but does anyone know a good site to watch new tv shows online?
@Randy Preston try FlixZone. You can find it by googling :)
@Manuel Sterling Definitely, been using FlixZone for since april myself :D
Possibly my favorite Dionne Warwick song.
Dionne was the love he missed
I believe that, I believe he did love her and she loves him. But the time that they came along was very different than now. But I believe they love ❤️ each other very much.
I love this song. Burt you will always be in my heart.
Long time ago the world produced real music

I get very emotional when I hear this beautiful song 😢❤
I do hope Dionne, Burt and Hal's life cross regularly. They made such beautiful music together. Jesus is Love
I always thought this is one of the best songs ever!!
Just a stunning song...
My favorite song, ever. Sometime really listen to Hals lyrics they are about what we should be
Burt's gorgeous melody and The VOICE of Dionne.
Her voice is a natural melody, and as light as air
What a great version
Amazing that Dionne Warwick was the 42nd person to record this lovely tune.
IMHO, Her version is the defining one.
I agree, but it was 42 singers who recorded before her, so she was the 43rd singer to record what is now considered a classic and one of her signature songs.
one of a kind, beautiful!
My favourite song sung by my favourite female singer.
what a WONDERFUL LYRIC, with a gorgeous accompaniment.
When I say that that LYRIC is EVERYTHING!!!! Wow Hal David did that ❤️❤️👍🏾🙌🏽Rest in peace Hal
She is stunning and amazing.
Gary Clement e
She does a great job on this song...always have loved her.. wish she still recorded.
She still does record. Her most recent album was a 2019 Christmas album and there were 2020 recordings from Las Vegas, Nevada and on TH-cam as well.
Both Amazing and sad how few give credit- to the man who wrote the words. Beautiful tune. Thanks Hal and Burt and Dionne.
Too much nostalgia...long ago..... home....mom... dad....friends life.....love.
Jim Keller yes
bacharach's gives us a better vision of life.
dionne sings it perfectly. love them both!
That song is one in a million beautiful

Most beautiful arrangement of this timeless treasure.

Joined now by Burt. The is heavenly music above and all around us now.
this is my number one song by dionne warwick
wow, what a voice, what a song
"Alfie"
What's it all about Alfie
Is it just for the moment we live
What's it all about
When you sort it out, Alfie
Are we meant to take more than we give
Or are we meant to be kind?
And if, if only fools are kind, Alfie
Then I guess it is wise to be cruel
And if life belongs only to the strong, Alfie
What will you lend on an old golden rule?
As sure as I believe there's a heaven above
Alfie, I know there's something much more
Something even non-believers can believe in
I believe in love, Alfie
Without true love we just exist, Alfie
Until you find the love you've missed
You're nothing, Alfie
When you walk let your heart lead the way
And you'll find love any day Alfie, oh Alfie
What's it all about Alfie?

There's reasons he chose DW for his songs, and she proved him right.
Everytime she did😁😊

One of my favorites!!...xoxo
LO MEJOR EN MUSICA ESTAS SI SON ESTRELLAS YA NO HAY COMO ELLOS
I remember seeing this on TV in '86'
Literal chills…. Thank you so much for posting this live masterpiece ❤
great! I will look for it- I thought it was just songs she already recorded..
Her first studio recording of this song was in 1967. That was 19 years before this "Solid Gold" appearance.
Lovely version.
Are you the actor from 7th Heaven?
I cried!!!! 😭
Thank God Burt chose Dionne to sing all those hits. What if he didn't ??
A música Alfie é linda!
So hard not to fall in love with him.
Grandi, canzone meravigliosa.
Great version! I have also recently heard Stevie Wonder performing this tune at the White House - superb! It's on youtube, and don't miss the Celia Black version; she brings a deep, deep understanding and performance of the lyric. I think it's my overall favorite.
I second that.
Dionne owms this song ❤
RIP Burt Bacharach ... :(
Isn't it true that the truth is almost always most simply stated? These lyrics are direct and straight to the truth.
R.I.P. Burt Bacharach! 😢
The original and best!
I love Alfie.....❤

It's in the same key she always sings it in tho...

Great Dionne…!
The great ones
