This reminds me so much of unrequited love; Enjoying the warmth of a friends kindness and unfortunately misinterpreting the signals thinking it's something more, when it's really not. It's a beautiful story that only lasts but a season, wishing they'd come back when they pulled away not wanting something more romantic with you. The beginning of the song is like a cry out in the cold winters day asking why they left and asking for reassurance they never will give you. You're left there wondering where you went wrong when it wasn't your fault; The feelings they once gave you still keeps you warm but as time goes on, as seasons pass you keep wanting them to come back, unfortunately it was never meant to last. It's so sad that at the very least this interpretation brings tears to my eyes..
You are not wrong, that's what I received from this song too. But I'm not the type to write out interpretations like that cuz I'm a little musician too, you know. This song is about the struggles and hardships of someone left alone by the people they loved, with one exception: a single friend who became their light and the reason to keep holding on. Together, they faced many challenges and supported each other through the pain and sorrow that life can bring. But as we know, life can be cruel, and nothing lasts forever. The only things that remain are the memories in our hearts. The protagonist of the song wants to cherish those memories until the day they can reunite and be together again.
