  • In early October 2022, ahead of its phased opening, the Intouch with Health team visited the New Royal Liverpool Hospital (part of the Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust), to tour the impressive new Outpatients Wing.
The purpose-built Outpatients department became the first service to become fully operational (5 October 2022), closely followed by the Inpatients and theatres. A&E was the last department to transfer over from the original hospital (20 October 2022).
The state-of-the-art new hospital is now fully open. The hospital’s design promotes efficiency and accessibility, with physical barriers avoided where possible. Intouch with Health’s digital patient flow technology is used throughout the Outpatients department to help manage the flow of patients during their appointment journey.
Patients start their visit in the spacious main atrium, where they will self-check-in via the kiosks. They are then directed to wait in the main Atrium, which is a more comfortable space, and only called to the clinic area when they are ready to be seen. eOutcomes provides clinicians with the ability to digitally capture the appointment outcome, which subsequently enables the administrative teams to undertake real-time completion of the appointment. The Room & Resource Manager module enables staff to intelligently book and manage clinic rooms, with real-time updates on the status of the rooms.
The New Royal is a state-of-the-art hospital, providing inpatients with 100% single en-suite bedrooms, improving patient experience, safety, and enhanced recovery. The new Hospital has 640 Beds, including 40 Critical care beds in ICU & HDU, 18 standard wards each with 28 single rooms with en-suite & 18 state-of-the-art operating theatres. There is also a large clinic research facility, lots of outdoor spaces, courtyard gardens, a spiritual area, and a 200-seat restaurant with panoramic views of the city. The new building features three link bridges connecting the building with the adjacent Clatterbridge Cancer Centre Liverpool, which will enable seriously ill cancer patients to receive rapid access to the services.
