    I'm amazed how your thoughts and ways of organization match with mines. Then I thought your horoscope sign can be Virgo. I checked your twitter and bingo! As a Virgo sign Ph.D. student is here, your suggestions are so helpful! Thanks!

    The going back and changing the calender is a great tip. I do it since my bachelors degree and it helped me so much. It helps to be realistic on the work you have done and can be a reference for future projects.

    This is a GREAT video, Julia - and so helpful (as a 1st Year) to see what someone who is at the end of the PhD journey does/did to stay organised. I really struggled with organising notes this year - started off with Evernote, missed handwriting so did a bit of that and now I, too, have been sucked into the awesome world of Notion... I think I'll be sticking with the latter! X

    Hi Julia, I wanted to let you know that I found this video incredibly helpful. My wife is studying Neuroscience, and she introduced me to your videos. I'm in the film business, and even though my career is the antithesis of yours, your comments, ideas, and excellent presentation skills have really assisted me. Thank you

    I really loved your Gantt Chart idea but I am having a bit of a hard time visualizing how the axis carrying task description should look like. ( eg- If I have 2 PCR to do in 2 different months will the x axis carry similar name?) So can you please do a short video showing how one of your Gantt charts actually looked like. It would give us a more clear picture.
    Thank you once again.

      Thank you for your kind words! You can name the PCRs different names. I will try to do a video explainer in the near future :)

    Hi, this video is very helpful so thank you:)
    I wanted to ask- what is the difference between the notes you take inside the calendar, the todo list and the lab notebook, or when do they overlap?

    • @juliaraveyscience
      @juliaraveyscience  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Great question! They differ slightly:
      - Calendar notes: broad bullet points about what I intend to do/did do in a block of time (e.g) if I was doing an experiment in the lab, I would write a few points about what specific things I had to do in that window. Like "Western blot" would have notes about the samples and antibody used
      - To do list: every little detail of my day! If we take same experiment example, this would be broken down into: Get samples out of freezer (box 5, rack 2), prepare buffers for sample (buffer name), Set up gel (10%) etc.
      - Lab book: this is where I explain why I am doing this experiment, the methods I actually used (so I after I have done it, I adjust so it reflects what I did) and my results. This is a formal record of the work done.
      Hope that helps! :)
