Sugar Ray Robinson in my book is the greatest combo puncher I have ever seen to grace the film, wish I was born back then to see him in action, great video RUMMY
Rummy, thanks for putting these surveys together and going over the history of boxing’s greatest to ever lace up. As a young boxing fan and former amateur myself, you’ve consistently been my favorite source of information, education, and entertainment since I discovered your channel. Please keep doing what you do so I can stick around to learn more about the sweet science.
Best list so far. In my opinion, the top 4 is the strongest of any decade and the right names are there - the order can be debated all day long but I personally think that this list has got it right.
Your videos are great, I’ve always loved boxing history, thank you for exposing us to names of great fighters who might not be on the tips of our tongues
Great series. I know it s hard to quantify the early history, but that too me is the most exciting, such rich stories from those decades and I know there s not a ton but it’s amazing watching the old film of those fights, incredible history!
Rummy👍awesome video my friend, taking absolutely nothing away from SRR but I'm so glad you spent some time highlighting the great Joe Louis, he has achieved so much and not been credited by all during and after his very long reign, unfairly having a proportion of his Stella career labelled 'bum of the month' which was totally unjustified. Really enjoyable mate, cheers✌️🍻

We're talking about the 40s here : Sugar Ray's numbers were indeed incredible - but Ezzard Charles', who was a great middleweight as well, was arguably better - he was 3 - 0 against Joey Maxim (Maxim beat Sugar Ray in their famous fight) 2 - 0 against Charles Burley, 3 - 0 (!) against The Mongoose, Archie Moore, & Ezzard even had time to defeat Joe Walcott for the heavyweight strap - all of this in the 40s! - not bad for a guy who was held back as a middleweight. The only thing preventing Ezzard from usurping Robinson was the fact that Charles had 5 losses to Robinson's 1 - but Ezzard fought them all - I'm not sure that we can say the same about Robinson - I don't see the Murders' Row on Robinson's record like I do on Ezzard's - & the fact that Robinson didn't fight Charles Burley stands out like a beacon (remember, Ezzard fought & beat Charles Burley twice) ....
I think he's 5-0 against Maxim, which is fuckin crazy. Plus, his wins over Elmer Ray (many People say his loss to him was a robbery), Yarosz (one tough soab), Satterfield (lethal puncher, in the top 100 greatest punchers), Lesnevich and Jimmy Bivins solidify him even more.
Goat era of boxing. All the top 10 would be champions today (louis in cruiserweight for being little than HWs of today) but I think Ezzard deserves to be 2 cause he beat better opposition than Pep and Louis and he is a top 7 of all time
How come when people talk about Ray Robinson know one ever brings up that he should have been the light weight champion as well Ray defeated Sammy Angott in a non title fight in his 21st fight but never got shot at the light weight title Sammy came in over weight so his title would not be on the line Not the first or the last time he did that Cheers Steve 🇦🇺🥊
Floyd who! Patterson? Surely your not talking mayweather? He's another showman that made up all of his own press like fury! He ran from the pacman the whole fight and because he was the promoter he got the win! He who writes the cheques gets the win.
@@michaeltrumph121 Duran fought nobody the caliber of Foreman, Frazier, Norton, Young, Shavers, Lyle, etc. I wish Duran and Arguello had gotten together or even Benitez at 140.
You might want to reconsider including the 1 voter that didn't have Joe Louis in the top 5 during the decade on the next panel. That's a pretty egregious omission as it's a stretch to say 5 others were better than him in the 40s.
Rummy has the perfect voice for this. He even aounds like a boxing historian!
Lol. Or a school teacher. Sometimes when I'm listening, I make up a cheat sheet for the exam afterwards 😅
The “expert” who left Charles off their list should be banned from taking part in the future.
I agree, and also that one fella who genuinely left out Joe Louis out of the top five in the 1940s, what the hell is that.
@@thewizmerlin4224
I think that guy put Louis top 5 in the 30s.
Agree Charles is undoubtedly one of the greatest ever..in my top 5 and at worst top 10 all time p4p
Sugar Ray Robinson in my book is the greatest combo puncher I have ever seen to grace the film, wish I was born back then to see him in action, great video RUMMY
I don't think he put his punches together better than Leonard.
@@mdmcdd1117he did, he just wasn't as fast, but as far as shot selection hes the best
Indeed Robinson Punch 👊 select process is DEVASTATING, he actually killed Jimmy Doyle with a single Left Hook
It's crazy how often boxers fought back in the day!
Sometimes up to 30-40 fights in a year.
The definition of the bills don’t stop
@@complexblackness Yep. Harry Greb fought 45 times in a year, winning all of the fights.
The 1940's had so many fighter's with heart, grit & talent.
Joe Louis is soo underrated. I understand why the old 1 was demolished but we need a new Joe Louis arena
please tell us how he is underrated
He's considered one of the greatest boxers if all time. Definitely not underrated.
some think Ali is better at heavyweight, right?@@DrLoverLover
They don’t name stadiums after legends anymore. They sell the naming rights to corporations.
The Old Mongoose gets a justified mention. Respect. Any excuse to hear Rummy say that moniker. 3 times. What a great day. Thanks Rummy.
Sadly Quasimodo didn’t make it to the top ten. But for sure he predicted all this.
2nd! OK, I know that was lame, but I can't tell you enough how much I LOVE Rummy's videos! Thank you again, Rummy!
Brilliant video, brilliant series. This channel has become my bxing history education.
A six fight rivalry!!! That's insane!!!
Much love for this Channel❤❤ Taiwo watching from Nigeria🇳🇬 👍🏾
Today's champions can retire with a record of 26-0 having probably fought only one recognised champion and they are classed as ' great '.
They are also less likely to have contracted pugilistic dementia.
@@1969JohnnyM That's fair, but it doesn't really classify them as a great
Loving the series learning all the time
Excellent work Rummy. Love these historical uploads. First class stuff. Bless 👊

I tend to agree with all of your observations here.
I haven’t watched the video but assume Sugar Ray is the overwhelming #1.
His position isn’t debatable.

Love this series as I learn so much about earlier eras. You are my go to boxing channel. I appreciate all the work and rigor you put into these.
Always enjoy your stuff Rummy.

great vid as always Rumi.
We can always use more rummy
Love pep saddler and charles. What a decade
Rummy please do a video on the rightfully lineal heavyweight double champion
Only 23 first place votes for SRR? 8 people lost their minds.
This was an insane decade in boxing
40s boxing is undefeated. Robinson, Louis, Pep, Charles, Moore and Saddler.
Can't argue with list👍
The greatest boxing decades in history imo
Ray is the goat period
We're talking about the 40s here : Sugar Ray's numbers were indeed incredible - but Ezzard Charles', who was a great middleweight as well, was arguably better - he was 3 - 0 against Joey Maxim (Maxim beat Sugar Ray in their famous fight) 2 - 0 against Charles Burley,

I do agree with the list of fighters..
The NBA was wild in the 40s!
This should be good. 40s was an amazing era.
No argument with the top 4.
Well Done🤜💥🤛
I agree with the top 3 and number 10
Rummy, are you also mixed Molly whoppery ?
How come so many boxers who have upwards of 100 fights seem to lack the brain damage of fighters many decades later with less than half as many fights
That’s what I’m wondering
Goat era of boxing. All the top 10 would be champions today (louis in cruiserweight for being little than HWs of today) but I think Ezzard deserves to be 2 cause he beat better opposition than Pep and Louis and he is a top 7 of all time
Gotta get a fury vs Francis video asap 😂
You Need To Show The 1950s 1960s 1970s 1980s 1990s 2000s 2010s P4P Lists
Joe Louis shouldn't have been anywhere out of someone's top 5 imo
This is a fantastic series Rummy 🥊💯.
We all appreciate the hard work time & effort that go’s into these episodes .
Armstrong should be on this list, quite frankly if not for Sugar he was pound 4 pound the best
Armstrong was featured as the winner in the 1930s.
How come when people talk about Ray Robinson know one ever brings up that he should have been the light weight champion as well
Ray defeated Sammy Angott in a non title fight in his 21st fight but never got shot at the light weight title

Ken Norton vs Joe Frazier fantasy match please
Crazy to think that Floyd could conceivably make the top 10 in THREE decades (90's, 00's, 10's).
Floyd who! Patterson? Surely your not talking mayweather? He's another showman that made up all of his own press like fury! He ran from the pacman the whole fight and because he was the promoter he got the win! He who writes the cheques gets the win.
I don't have to look to know Joe Louis is # 1. Curious about the other boxers though
Ali is going to be #1 in the 60s and 70s. People might argue Duran but he didn't fight anywhere near the competition Ali did.
70s is Duran all day long.
Ali lost in the 70s.
@@michaeltrumph121 Duran fought nobody the caliber of Foreman, Frazier, Norton, Young, Shavers, Lyle, etc. I wish Duran and Arguello had gotten together or even Benitez at 140.
How is it even possible for anyone today to even come up with a list of guys from 80 years ago?

There is an old, old technology called reading.
Alright where the hell is Henry Armstrong.
In the 1930s Survey
Should be in the 1940s too.@@RummysCorner
