      The first interpreter was sloppy. The second one was actually dangerous. The woman said that "I accept the risk of dying", and she translated it as "I'm okay with the procedure". I know that she technically saved the woman's life, but the opposite could happen.

      I don`t think she can be called an interpreter. That was hard to look at and listen to!

    When an Arabic translator is called and speaks the Egyptian dialect of Arabic even though the doctor clearly has an Egyptian accent and definitely speaks Egyptian Arabic fluently.....

    3:20 ok but how was that word used? In what sentence cause intoxicado does mean intoxicated. It’s common for Spanish speakers to use intoxicado when they mean drunk. So it would help if they explained why it didn’t mean embriagado which means drunk. If they showed what was said and explained why it didn’t mean what the interpreter thought it did.

    • @GigW

      Usually intoxicado in Spanish refers to food poisoning. Intoxicated into Spanish would be borracho, tomado, drogado,

    • @amgp634
      @amgp634 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      there are many spanish speaking countries, and intoxicado doesn't mean the same in all of them. That is why the interpreter is a cultural facilitator.

    • @naibean
      @naibean 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@amgp634 No, "intoxicado" means food poisoning in every Spanish-speaking country, maybe Chicanos use it as "drunk" but it does not make it correct. The words "ebrio" and "drogado" mean "intoxicated" in English. Neutral Spanish is used when translating for a Hispanic for that same reason that there are many cultures, and as translators and interpreters we are well aware of that.

      @@naibean No, intoxicado does not mean food poisoning, that would be "intoxicación alimentaria" if someone just says "está intoxicado" they are talking about being poisoned in general but not necessarily "food poisoning". They can also be referring to drugs

      Médical terminology if they said borracho they will take a blood test to see what grade of alcohol he has ..so was a hospital negligence.

    I he did not explained or give details about the case about someone with a brain aneurysm, he only said" that Intoxicado" was not the right interpretation, so was interprete as borracho . was the person poisoned ? or what.

    • @monpi19
      @monpi19 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nope. Intoxicado usually means that something you ate or drank made you sick. Doctors thought he was saying intoxicated as in drugs or alcohol. So they were treating him for something that he didn't have, which delayed the diagnosis (blod clot in the brain), which resulted in the guy become quedraplejic.
